You can connect Outlook to Claude through its Microsoft 365 connector if your mailbox is a work or school account in a Microsoft Entra tenant and your organization has approved the integration. Personal Outlook.com, Hotmail, and Live accounts are not eligible for this native connector. Once an administrator has completed the required setup, connect in Claude under Customize > Connectors and sign in with your Microsoft 365 account.
Check whether your Outlook account is eligible
Claude’s built-in option is the Microsoft 365 connector. It is intended for Microsoft 365 work or school accounts associated with an Entra tenant. A personal address ending in @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, or @live.com is not supported by this connector.
If you use Outlook at work or school, the address alone may not tell you whether the mailbox qualifies. Ask your IT administrator whether it is part of your organization’s Microsoft 365 tenant and whether the tenant has approved Claude’s access.
Why administrator setup may be required
A Microsoft Entra Global Administrator must grant tenant consent before users can connect. For Claude Team and Enterprise organizations, a Claude Owner must also enable the Microsoft 365 connector for the organization. The Microsoft 365 setup guide describes these requirements and the additional configuration needed for write tools.

If Microsoft 365 does not appear in Connectors, or Microsoft sign-in will not complete, check with your organization’s administrator. They can confirm tenant consent, Claude organization settings, and whether your account is allowed to use the connector.
Connect Microsoft 365 in Claude
Complete the steps below after your organization has approved and enabled the connector:
- In Claude, open Customize > Connectors.
- Find Microsoft 365 and select Connect.
- Sign in with your eligible Microsoft 365 work or school account and complete Microsoft’s authorization flow.
- Ask Claude to find a specific email conversation or calendar detail. Check the result against the item you expected.
For example, you can ask Claude to locate a particular email thread and summarize the conversation, or search for a calendar item. The connector’s availability and tools depend on your organization’s configuration.

Search and summarize email
The connector supports Outlook email search, and Claude can use the results to help analyze or summarize conversations. Anthropic’s connector documentation describes searching and working with email content.

Search calendar information
Outlook calendar search is also listed among the Microsoft 365 connector tools. You can ask Claude to find relevant calendar information, subject to the access and tools enabled for your account.
Draft, send, or change calendar data
Do not assume that connecting Outlook automatically lets Claude send messages or modify events. Drafting or sending email and managing calendar events require write tools to be enabled by your organization, along with additional administrator consent and configuration. If you need those capabilities, ask your Microsoft 365 administrator whether they are permitted and enabled.
Understand access and privacy
Anthropic describes the Microsoft 365 connector as using delegated permissions: it accesses information according to permissions granted to the individual user in Microsoft 365. Its security explanation says content remains in the Microsoft 365 tenant and is retrieved on demand during active queries rather than cached as file content.
These are Anthropic’s statements about this connector, not a blanket guarantee about other integrations or services. Follow your employer’s data-handling rules, review the permissions requested during authorization, and ask your administrator about controls that apply to your tenant.

If you want a workflow that triggers actions across services rather than simply searching Outlook from Claude, Zapier documents Outlook triggers and actions and a Zapier MCP route for exposing Outlook actions to Claude. This is an optional, separate service—not a requirement for the Microsoft 365 connector.
Zapier’s Microsoft Outlook integration documentation lists a Microsoft 365 Business or Enterprise account and an Exchange Online mailbox as prerequisites, and notes that administrator approval may be needed when third-party access is restricted. Review the service’s current account requirements, permissions, and data-handling terms before connecting it.
