To connect a Sony camera to your phone, first check which app and firmware your exact camera model supports, then follow that model’s connection steps. Sony uses both Creators’ App and Imaging Edge Mobile; the apps and connection options are not interchangeable across every camera.
Choose the app your camera supports
Sony’s support guidance identifies two dedicated mobile apps: Creators’ App and Imaging Edge Mobile. Their supported-camera lists differ, and some camera models require a minimum firmware version. Check Sony’s current compatibility information for your camera before installing an app or trying to pair it.
The correct app also depends on what you want to do. Sony documents image transfer and remote shooting, but availability and connection steps depend on the camera model. A menu or feature shown for one camera may not exist on another.

Connect using the camera’s instructions
For the Imaging Edge Mobile image-transfer workflow, Sony’s documented process starts from camera playback. Menu names and the order of steps vary by camera, so use the procedure for your model rather than assuming a universal path.

- On the camera, open playback and choose the Send option. Select the images you want to transfer.
- Register or connect the camera in the mobile app. For first-time setup, Sony documents Camera Connection/Registration and QR-code scanning.
- Use the connection method shown for your camera. Depending on the model and phone, Sony documents QR-code registration, one-touch NFC, or entering the camera’s SSID and password in the app.
- When the connection is established, continue the transfer in the app and check that the files arrive on the phone.
NFC is an option only where the camera and phone support it. If the camera displays its SSID and password, follow the app’s instructions for entering those credentials. Do not substitute a different model’s menu path if the labels on your camera differ.
Know what transfers in Imaging Edge Mobile
Sony’s Imaging Edge Mobile instructions dated February 19, 2026 describe these format limits for that workflow:

These details apply to the documented Imaging Edge Mobile workflow. They should not be assumed to describe every Sony app or camera.

If the camera or app displays an error, start with its exact wording. Sony’s support materials distinguish problems such as “Creators’ App cannot connect to the camera,” “[Could not establish Wi-Fi connection with your camera.] is displayed when I try to start image transfer or remote shooting,” and “Connection is unstable. Sometimes I can’t connect, and sometimes transfers are slow.” These can point to different connection stages.

- Confirm compatibility. Check that your camera model and firmware support the app you are using. Sony maintains separate compatibility lists for Creators’ App and Imaging Edge Mobile.
- Update and use the model-specific procedure. Update the app, then follow Sony’s connection instructions for the camera. Sony identifies VPN interference as a concern in the Imaging Edge Mobile workflow.
- Check wireless settings. Make sure Wi-Fi is enabled on both the camera and phone and airplane mode is off. Disconnect the phone from a hotspot or VPN if either is interfering with the camera connection.
- Review phone permissions and hotspot settings. For Creators’ App on iPhone or iPad, check that Local Network and Location permissions are enabled. On Android, make sure the phone’s portable hotspot is off.
- Recover a mismatched pairing. If the camera reports that it is connected but the phone is not, use Sony’s pairing-recovery instructions for the specific error instead of repeating the standard transfer steps.
Why Bluetooth can appear connected when transfer fails
Bluetooth recognition does not necessarily mean there is an active connection for image transfer or remote shooting. Sony explains that the camera may be recognized over Bluetooth while the required Wi-Fi connection is not established. If the app reports that it cannot establish Wi-Fi, check Wi-Fi on both devices and follow the recovery steps for that error.

Use this path only if the issue began after moving to Creators’ App following a camera software update. Sony’s migration guidance, dated February 13, 2026, recommends updating Imaging Edge Mobile and then reconnecting through the camera’s Smartphone Connection network menu. The process is conditional on that migration situation, not a prerequisite for every new setup.
