To connect a PS5 to a wireless internet network, open Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection, select your Wi-Fi network, and enter its password if prompted. This is ordinary Wi-Fi setup—not a Wi-Fi Direct device-to-device connection; Sony’s PS5 internet setup uses a Wi-Fi network or access point.
How to connect a PS5 to Wi-Fi
- On the PS5, open Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection.
- Select the Wi-Fi network you want to use from the displayed list.
- Choose Connect. If the network is password-protected, enter its Wi-Fi password when prompted. Sony lists WPA, WPA2, WEP, and WPA3 among the supported password-protected network options; the security mode depends on the network. Sony’s PS5 internet connection instructions provide the setup steps.
What to do if your Wi-Fi network does not appear
Scroll to the bottom of the network list and select Set Up Manually, then follow the console’s prompts. If you are unsure of the network name or settings, ask the network administrator rather than guessing.
Use WPS if your access point supports it
For a WPS-compatible access point, select Set Up Using WPS Button and follow the on-screen instructions. This option applies only when the access point supports WPS.
If the PS5 asks for a password you do not know
A padlock beside a network indicates that it is protected. The console will request its Wi-Fi password when you connect. If you do not know it, Sony advises asking the router manufacturer, internet service provider, or network administrator.

Check for an IPv6-only network
The PS5 supports IPv6, but it cannot connect to an IPv6-only network. If the router is configured for IPv6 only, Sony advises changing its configuration to use IPv4. Router-specific instructions depend on the equipment, so contact its manufacturer for help.
Use a LAN cable as an optional alternative
A wired connection is not required for Wi-Fi setup. If you prefer a cable or need a wired fallback, connect a LAN cable to the PS5 and use Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection > Set Up Wired LAN > Connect. See Sony’s PS5 online connection instructions.

Wi-Fi setup is different from PS Remote Play
Connecting the console to Wi-Fi gives the PS5 internet access. PS Remote Play is a separate feature that streams a game from the console to a compatible device over broadband. Sony states that Remote Play requires at least 5 Mbps broadband and recommends 15 Mbps or higher for a better experience. Those figures apply to Remote Play, not to ordinary PS5 Wi-Fi setup.
