Short answer: Funcom has not published a verified, current hardware specification for an Enhanced (Unreal Engine 5) dedicated server. The only official sizing table gives historical 2017 targets: 8 GB RAM for 10- and 35-player tiers, 12 GB for 70 players, and 35 GB of disk space for every tier. Those figures should not be treated as validated Enhanced requirements. Funcom’s current 16 GB RAM and SSD figures apply to the Enhanced game client, not to a dedicated server.
For a reliable decision, first identify the version and platform you will host. Then choose between PC self-hosting and a rental provider, confirm that the provider supports the same Enhanced/Legacy build, and test networking before inviting players.
What the official numbers actually mean
Funcom’s dedicated-server sizing article, published by its development team on August 21, 2017, divides servers into small, medium and large tiers. The table is useful historical context, but it predates the Enhanced/UE5 transition and has not been validated as a current recommendation.
| Historical tier | Player capacity | RAM listed by Funcom | Example CPU | Disk space |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small | 10 players | 8 GB | Intel Core2Duo 6850 | 35 GB |
| Medium | 35 players | 8 GB | Intel Core i5 2400 | 35 GB |
| Large | 70 players | 12 GB | Intel Core i7 6700 | 35 GB |
These values come from Funcom’s 2017 dedicated-server article. They are not modern benchmarks, do not account for Enhanced, and do not establish how many mods, players or save files a present-day machine can handle. In particular, do not buy a current CPU or memory kit on the assumption that one of those old tiers is an Enhanced guarantee.

Enhanced client requirements are not server requirements
Funcom’s Enhanced system-requirements page lists 16 GB of RAM as both minimum and recommended for the PC game client and calls for an SSD, alongside client CPU and GPU requirements. A client renders the world, audio and interface for one player; a dedicated server simulates the world, manages persistence, processes connections and handles mods for everyone. Those workloads are different.
Therefore, 16 GB should not be quoted as the minimum or recommended RAM for an Enhanced server. The official material currently available does not establish a current minimum, recommended configuration, CPU model, storage-performance target or supported player count for an Enhanced dedicated server. Treat any precise modern specification found elsewhere as an unofficial estimate unless Funcom publishes it.
RAM: use the old table only as a baseline
What is documented
The documented historical baseline is 8 GB for the 10- and 35-player tiers and 12 GB for the 70-player tier. That is the complete official numerical guidance for server memory in the supplied documentation.
What the figures do not tell you
- They do not include a measured safety margin for operating-system services, backups or monitoring.
- They do not state behavior with large mod collections or unusually busy bases.
- They do not describe Enhanced/UE5 memory use.
- They do not guarantee that a server will remain stable at the listed player count.
If you are planning a new Enhanced installation, use the table to understand the scale of Funcom’s older examples, not as a purchase specification. Monitor actual memory consumption during a controlled test and leave capacity for the operating system and any tools you run alongside the server. That is a risk-management practice, not an official Funcom requirement.

CPU: why the historical models cannot be converted into a 2026 recommendation
Funcom’s old examples progress from a Core2Duo 6850 to a Core i5 2400 and then a Core i7 6700 as player capacity increases. They show that simulation load was expected to rise with a larger population, but they are now obsolete processor generations. Clock speed, single-thread performance, instruction-set support, cooling and the rest of the host’s workload all affect results.
No current Enhanced CPU model or benchmark is established by the official sources. Avoid claims such as “any four-core processor is enough” or “this particular modern chip supports 70 players.” For self-hosting, select a machine that can sustain the server process without CPU saturation while players are online, then validate it under your own world and mod load. For a rental, ask the provider what hardware and contention policy applies; a slot count alone does not reveal CPU allocation.
Storage and save-file planning
The 2017 table lists 35 GB of disk space for each tier. That is a historical installation figure, not a statement of current Enhanced disk usage or free-space headroom. An SSD is specified for the Enhanced PC client, but Funcom has not published an equivalent server storage requirement in the material here.

Self-hosting on PC: official setup path
Funcom’s dedicated-server instructions support self-hosting on PC. They direct you to install the official server application through Steam and then edit configuration files before launching it.
- Open Steam and go to Library > Tools. Install Conan Exiles Dedicated Server.
- Locate the installation’s configuration directory and open
Engine.ini. Set the server name and server password using the configuration names documented on Funcom’s Dedicated Servers page. - Open
ServerSettings.iniand setAdminPassword. Use a strong, unique value; anyone with administrator access can change the world. - Start the server with
StartServer.bator launchConanSandboxServer.exe, as described by Funcom. - Allow the server executable through the host firewall. Funcom notes that a firewall exception may be required for visibility in the Steam server browser.
- From a second PC or a remote connection, verify that the server appears, accepts the password and allows a player to join before distributing the address.
Configuration names and file locations can change between releases, so use the current instructions on Funcom’s page rather than copying settings from an unrelated guide. Do not expose the administrative password in screenshots, startup scripts shared with other people or public posts.
Ports and networking you must account for
Funcom documents separate ports for gameplay, discovery, queries, mod transfer and remote administration. The defaults and protocol assignments are:
Recommended Free Tools
| Purpose | Protocol and port | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Game traffic | UDP 7777 | Main gameplay connection. |
| Pinger | UDP 7778 | Used for server availability checks. |
| Server query on PC | UDP 27015 | Query port listed for PC servers. |
| Mod transfer | TCP details vary by PC/Epic Games Store setup | Follow the platform-specific directions on Funcom’s page. |
| RCON | TCP 25575 | Remote console administration; restrict it to trusted addresses. |
These assignments are from Funcom’s setup documentation. If you change a port, update the server configuration, host firewall and router/NAT forwarding together. A server that runs locally but cannot be found from outside usually has a missing firewall rule, incorrect port forwarding, carrier-grade NAT or a provider-side restriction.
Self-hosting versus renting
Self-hosting
- Control: You choose the machine, operating system configuration, backups, restart policy and mod files.
- Network responsibility: You must provide a reachable public connection, configure NAT and firewall rules, and handle outages.
- Platform limitation: Funcom’s May 7, 2018 forum guidance says self-hosting is available on PC. That post is historical and does not establish a supported console self-hosting route.
- Maintenance: You apply server updates, watch resource use and recover corrupted saves.
Rental hosting
- Convenience: The provider supplies the machine, network connectivity and a control panel, reducing operating-system and router work.
- Compatibility risk: A listing can offer Conan Exiles slots without supporting the Enhanced/UE5 build you need.
- Operational questions: Confirm backup retention, world migration, mod installation, restart controls, RCON access, region and resource allocation before paying.
- Availability: Funcom’s current Enhanced FAQ says it is working with select providers and advises customers to contact providers for details. It does not publish a complete country-by-country list.
The 2018 forum post identifies G-Portal as an official partner at that time. That dated statement is not proof of present Enhanced compatibility, availability in your country or a current endorsement. Treat it as historical context only.
If you decide to rent, Godlike.Host’s Conan Exiles servers come with free DDoS protection, up to three free backups a day with restore, and a Pterodactyl-based game panel with a task scheduler and sub-users. Ask about the exact Enhanced or Legacy build before you order, as described above.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Enhanced, Legacy and platform compatibility
Version matching is mandatory: the client and server must run compatible versions. Funcom’s Enhanced servers-and-mods FAQ explains that official PC servers are moving to Enhanced/UE5 while console servers remain on UE4. A rental host may expose separate Legacy and Enhanced options, or may support only one of them.
Before ordering or migrating a world, obtain written confirmation of:
Best Value
- Enhanced/UE5 or Legacy/UE4 version;
- PC, Epic Games Store or console platform support;
- maximum player slots and whether slots are hard limits;
- mod support and the process for updating or removing mods;
- backup frequency, retention and downloadable copies;
- world-save migration and cancellation procedures;
- data-center region and expected maintenance windows.
Do not assume that an existing UE4 save, mod list or server package will transfer unchanged to Enhanced. Preserve a complete backup before attempting a migration and test the new instance with a copy of the world first.
Is Linux hosting officially supported?
The official setup material supplied here documents Windows-style files and launchers such as StartServer.bat and ConanSandboxServer.exe. It does not validate Linux, Wine or compatibility-layer hosting. Community methods may exist, but they are outside the confirmed support information in these sources. If Linux is a hard requirement, ask Funcom or the hosting provider directly whether the exact Enhanced build is supported and who handles failures.
Troubleshooting checklist
The server runs but is not visible
- Confirm the process is listening on the configured game, pinger and query ports.
- Check the host firewall and add an exception for the server executable if needed.
- Verify router port forwarding points to the correct internal address.
- Ensure players are using the correct platform and server version.
- Test from outside the host’s local network; local visibility does not prove Internet reachability.
Players are rejected after an update
Compare client and server versions first. Enhanced and Legacy builds are not interchangeable, and a platform mismatch can look like a password or network failure. Update the server, then restart it and test with an unmodded client before reintroducing mods.

The world becomes unstable under load
Record CPU and memory use while players are active, note the number of mods and entities, and check disk space and save errors. The 2017 table cannot diagnose an Enhanced load problem; use your measurements to determine whether the bottleneck is CPU, memory, storage or networking before changing hardware.
A practical decision process
- Choose the target build: Decide whether your group needs Enhanced/UE5 or Legacy/UE4 and identify the supported platform.
- Estimate the real workload: Count expected concurrent players, mods, automated restarts, backups and other services on the machine.
- Select an operating model: Use PC self-hosting when you want control and can manage networking; use a rental when provider-managed infrastructure is worth the recurring cost.
- Verify compatibility in writing: Ask about version, platform, region, slots, mods, backups and migration before committing.
- Test before inviting everyone: Join remotely, exercise admin functions, install the intended mods and restore a backup on a test copy.
- Monitor continuously: Keep an eye on memory, CPU, disk space, save duration, connection errors and restart history.
What you can safely conclude
Funcom’s only published server sizing numbers are the dated 2017 figures: 8 GB RAM for 10 and 35 players, 12 GB for 70 players, and 35 GB of disk space for each tier. Funcom’s 16 GB and SSD Enhanced specifications describe the player PC, not the server. A current, official Enhanced dedicated-server hardware recommendation is not established.
That uncertainty changes the buying decision. Do not treat an old tier table or a client specification as a guarantee. Confirm the exact game version and platform, follow Funcom’s current port and configuration instructions, and require a rental provider to document Enhanced support before you pay.
