Godlike.Host offers hosted Conan Exiles servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
For a standard Conan Exiles dedicated server, forward UDP 7777 (game traffic), UDP 7778 (the pinger), and UDP 27015 (the PC server-query port) to the server computer. Add TCP 25575 only if you deliberately enable RCON administration. The forwarding rules and the host firewall must point to the server machine’s stable LAN address, not to a changing DHCP address.
When a port is already occupied, change the game and query ports together, forward the replacements, and let the pinger follow the game port automatically. The rest of this guide explains the port roles, configuration files, router and firewall setup, multi-server layouts, and the failure cases that prevent friends from seeing or joining your server.

The dedicated server’s ordinary player traffic is UDP, so a TCP-only rule for 7777 or 27015 will not make a server reachable. Conversely, opening RCON does nothing for player connections and increases administrative exposure, so leave it closed unless you have a specific reason to use it.
What each port does
UDP 7777: the game port
UDP 7777 carries the live game session: connection handshakes, movement, combat, world updates, and other real-time traffic. Funcom’s dedicated-server documentation identifies it as the main game port. In Engine.ini, the relevant setting is in the [URL] section:

Port=7777You can set the same value at launch with -Port=7777. If you choose another game port, every router and firewall rule must use that new value, and the pinger must use the next number.
UDP 7778: the automatically paired pinger
The pinger is always one greater than the game port. With the default game port, it is UDP 7778. Browsers use this response to decide whether the server is available. There is no independent pinger setting: selecting game port 7779 automatically makes the pinger 7780. Do not forward 7778 to a different machine or try to assign it a separate value.
UDP 27015: the PC query port
The query port supplies server-list information such as name, player count, and availability on PC. Set it in Engine.ini as follows:

GameServerQueryPort=27015Alternatively, start the process with -QueryPort=27015. The dedicated server uses its custom query implementation. Remove an obsolete [OnlineSubsystemSteam] section if it is present in an old configuration, rather than relying on that deprecated section for query behavior.

TCP 25575: optional RCON
RCON is a remote console for administration, not a player transport. Enable it only when needed by setting RconPort=25575 in the [RconPlugin] section and configuring the associated RCON credentials in your server setup. Forward TCP 25575 only to trusted administrative networks when your router supports source restrictions. Never describe an RCON port as a requirement for friends joining the game.
TCP 7777 and mod downloads
For the PC/Epic Games Store scenario, Funcom documents an on-demand TCP mod-transfer behavior on port 7777. It is controlled by ModFileDownload.DownloadPortOffset. This is distinct from the normal UDP game socket. Whether you need a TCP rule depends on the mod-download method and platform combination you are operating; it is not a substitute for forwarding UDP 7777.
Before you create forwarding rules
Give the server a stable LAN address
Port forwarding maps an internet-facing port to one private address. If the server receives a new address after a reboot, the router can continue forwarding successfully while sending traffic to the wrong computer. Use one of these approaches:
- DHCP reservation: In the router’s LAN or DHCP page, reserve the server computer’s current address against its network adapter MAC address. This is usually easier to maintain than a manually configured address.
- Static host configuration: Assign an address outside the router’s automatic DHCP pool and configure the correct gateway and DNS values on the server operating system.
Record the resulting address, such as 192.168.1.50, before making rules. The example address is illustrative; use the actual address shown by your router and operating system.

Identify the correct router and network boundary
If your modem and router are separate devices, determine which device holds the public address. Forwarding on only the inner router leaves the outer device blocking inbound traffic. Two successive private-address hops indicate double NAT. Some internet providers use carrier-grade NAT (CGNAT), where your router never receives a directly reachable public IPv4 address. In either case, local connections can work while remote friends still cannot connect; the fix depends on the ISP and equipment, and there is no universal setting in Conan Exiles that bypasses those upstream conditions.
Choose the server’s edition and operating system
Funcom’s setup guidance covers installing the “Conan Exiles Dedicated Server” Steam tool or updating app 443030 with SteamCMD. The server can be started with StartServer.bat on Windows or ConanSandboxServer.exe directly. General networking belongs in Engine.ini, gameplay options in Game.ini, and the administrator password in ServerSettings.ini. Keep a backup of these files before changing ports.

Use configuration files
- Stop the dedicated-server process so it does not overwrite files while you edit them.
- Open the instance’s
Engine.inifile. - Under
[URL], set the game port, for examplePort=7777. - Under
[OnlineSubsystemNull], setGameServerQueryPort=27015. - If RCON is required, add or edit
[RconPlugin]and set itsRconPortvalue. - Save the file, then start the server and inspect its log for the bound ports.
Do not create an independent pinger value. It is derived from the game port. If the game port is 7779, the pinger is 7780.
Use startup options when appropriate
Startup options are useful for separate instances or temporary tests. A non-default pair can be launched with values such as -Port=7779 -QueryPort=27016. Keep the command-line values consistent with the instance’s configuration files and forwarding rules; conflicting values make troubleshooting misleading because the router may be correct for a port the process is not actually using.

Forward the default ports in your router
- Sign in to the router that owns the public internet connection.
- Open the section labeled Port Forwarding, NAT, or Virtual Server. Labels vary by manufacturer.
- Create an inbound rule for UDP 7777 with the internal destination set to the server’s reserved LAN address.
- Create a second inbound rule for UDP 7778 to that same address.
- Create a third inbound rule for UDP 27015 to that same address.
- Save or apply the configuration. Some routers restart their firewall service after applying changes.
- Add TCP 25575 only if RCON is enabled. If the router offers source-IP restrictions, limit this rule to the administrator’s trusted network rather than exposing it to every internet address.
Use the same external and internal port number unless you have a deliberate reason to translate them. Protocol selection matters: choose UDP for 7777, 7778, and 27015, and TCP for RCON. A rule that forwards both protocols unnecessarily broadens exposure without improving the game connection.

Allow the ports through the host firewall
The router can deliver a packet to the server’s LAN address, but the operating-system firewall can still discard it. Create inbound allow rules on the machine running the process:
- Allow UDP 7777 for the dedicated-server executable.
- Allow UDP 7778 for the pinger.
- Allow UDP 27015 for the query service.
- Allow TCP 25575 only when RCON is active and only from trusted source addresses where possible.
- Add TCP 7777 only for the documented on-demand mod-transfer case that applies to your PC/Epic Games Store setup.
On Windows, you can create rules in Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security under Inbound Rules. On Linux, add equivalent UDP rules to the active firewall system and ensure the server process is bound to the intended interface. A broad “allow all” rule may hide the actual problem and leaves unrelated services exposed, so scope rules to the required protocol and ports.
Test local listening before testing the internet
- Start the server and wait until world initialization has completed.
- On the server machine, inspect the listening sockets with the operating system’s network tools. Confirm that the process has bound the configured game and query ports and, when enabled, the RCON port.
- From another device on the same LAN, try the game’s direct-connect workflow using the server’s LAN address and game port.
- If the LAN connection fails, fix the server configuration or host firewall before changing the router. A router cannot repair a process that is not listening.
The official setup documentation summarizes the defaults as listening on UDP 27015 and UDP 7777. Your log should reflect custom values when you have selected them.

Test from outside your home network
Testing from the same LAN can produce a false sense of success because some routers do not support NAT loopback. Use a phone on cellular data, a friend’s connection, or another genuinely external network. Check the server browser and, where supported, use direct connect with the public address and configured game port.
- Visible and joinable: The game, pinger, query, router, and firewall paths are functioning.
- Joinable by direct address but absent from the browser: Recheck UDP 7778 and UDP 27015, the query-port setting, and any firewall exception needed for browser visibility.
- Visible but unable to join: Recheck UDP 7777, the server’s actual bound port, and whether the browser is showing a stale listing.
- Works locally but not externally: Investigate the public address, double NAT, CGNAT, and upstream firewall before changing game settings.
Run two or more servers on one machine
Each instance needs a unique game port and a unique query port. The pinger for each instance remains the game port plus one. For example, the first server can use the defaults, while a second uses the replacement set shown below.

Funcom forum guidance uses 7779, 7780, and 27016 as an example alternate game, pinger, and query combination. The second process must have its own configuration directory, save data, mods, and startup command; otherwise the instances can compete for files even when their sockets are different.
- Duplicate the server’s instance data or create a separate installation layout.
- Assign the second instance a game port that is not used by the first.
- Set its query port to a different value.
- Verify that the automatically derived pinger is also unused.
- Create matching router and host-firewall rules for all three UDP ports.
- Give each process a distinct server name and, if used, a distinct RCON port.
- Start one instance at a time and inspect logs for bind errors before starting the next.
Do not solve a collision by changing only the query port. If two instances share a game port, one process will fail to bind or behave unpredictably; if they share a query port, browser information can be missing or attributed to the wrong instance.
Diagnose common failures
“My friends cannot see the server”
- Confirm UDP 27015 is forwarded to the current LAN address.
- Confirm UDP 7778 is forwarded; the browser’s pinger check depends on it.
- Confirm the host firewall allows both ports.
- Check that
GameServerQueryPortmatches the router rule and the running process. - Remove or correct an old
[OnlineSubsystemSteam]query configuration and use the dedicated server’s custom query settings. - Allow time for the browser to refresh after a restart, then test from an external network.
“Direct connect works locally, but nobody outside can join”
- Verify that the router forwards UDP 7777 to the server’s reserved LAN address.
- Check whether the server address changed despite the reservation.
- Look for a second router, modem NAT, or CGNAT between the server and the internet.
- Check an upstream firewall or managed-network policy that blocks unsolicited inbound UDP.
“The server stopped working after I changed ports”
- Check the startup command and
Engine.inifor conflicting values. - Forward the new game port, its next-number pinger, and the new query port.
- Update host-firewall rules to match the new protocol and numbers.
- Confirm the new query port is not occupied by another instance.
“RCON does not connect”
RCON is independent of player connectivity. Confirm that the plugin is enabled, RconPort is set under [RconPlugin], TCP (not UDP) is forwarded, and the host firewall permits the connection. If players can join but RCON cannot, do not alter the game ports; troubleshoot the RCON service and its access restrictions separately.

Stop duplicate server processes and identify which program owns the socket with the operating system’s connection tools. For multiple Conan Exiles instances, assign a unique game port and query port to each, then calculate each pinger as game port plus one. Restart only after the old process has released its sockets.
