To make a golem in Conan Exiles, speak with Master Carver Huang, learn the free Golem Constructor knowledge, build a Golem Workbench and Guardian Assembly Station, unlock component recipes in the Sorcery tree, craft the six body parts you need, and perform the assembly station’s activation ritual. The workbench makes parts; the assembly station combines them into a follower.
What Golem Shaping adds to Age of Sorcery
Golem Shaping is an Age of Sorcery Chapter 3 system. It is not a single recipe that produces a complete companion. Instead, you manufacture individual components, select their materials and coatings, combine them in a second station, and animate the result. That separation matters when a workbench appears empty or when a finished construct cannot be activated: the two stations have different jobs, and the Sorcery knowledge tree controls which component recipes are available.

A normal construct has six slots: one head, one torso, two legs and two arms. The game allows some incomplete arrangements to animate, so a missing head or a missing arm does not automatically make activation impossible. There is one important exception: if you install one arm, you must install a second arm as well. A one-armed arrangement cannot be animated. An incomplete golem is also less useful in combat than a complete one.
Prerequisites: find Huang and learn Golem Constructor
Where Master Carver Huang appears
Master Carver Huang teaches the system. On the Exiled Lands map, look for him at Mek-Kamoses’s Spire. On the Isle of Siptah, he is at the Camp of the Castaways. Speak with him to learn the free Golem Constructor knowledge. Until that knowledge is learned, the two crafting stations and their component progression are not available through the normal crafting path.

After the conversation, open your knowledge interface and confirm that Golem Constructor has been added. Huang does not hand you a finished station or a finished follower; he unlocks the ability to construct the stations that make the system work.
The two stations and their construction costs
Use a Construction Hammer to place both stations. The recipe quantities below are the station recipes listed by the Conan Exiles Wiki; they are not measurements from a player performance test.

| Station | Construction Hammer recipe | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Guardian Assembly Station | 100 Brick and 100 Iron Bar | Accepts the selected parts and performs the activation ritual that turns the construct into a follower. |
| Golem Workbench | 100 Brick, 50 Iron Bar and 300 Wood | Crafts heads, torsos, legs, arms, coatings and weapon arms. |
Build the stations where you can move materials between them easily. The workbench is the production point for components; the assembly station is the final staging and animation point. You do not substitute one station for the other.
Unlock the component recipes before gathering a build’s materials
Open the Sorcery knowledge tree after learning Golem Constructor. The available progression includes the component and coating knowledge needed for different material tiers and roles. The listed options are:
- Stone Guardian Shaper
- Stone Guardian Tools
- Brimstone Guardian Coating
- Tar Guardian Coating
- Iron Guardian Shaper
- Iron Guardian Tools
- Crystalline Guardian Tools
Unlock only the branch that matches the parts you intend to craft, or plan your progression if you want several builds. A station can be correctly constructed and still show no useful component recipes when the corresponding knowledge has not been learned. Recipe access is therefore the first check when the workbench looks empty.

How to make a golem: complete procedure
- Travel to Huang. Visit Mek-Kamoses’s Spire in the Exiled Lands or the Camp of the Castaways on the Isle of Siptah.
- Speak with Master Carver Huang. Learn the free Golem Constructor knowledge and verify that it appears in your knowledge list.
- Craft the Guardian Assembly Station. Use a Construction Hammer and the station recipe of 100 Brick plus 100 Iron Bar.
- Craft the Golem Workbench. Use a Construction Hammer and the recipe of 100 Brick, 50 Iron Bar and 300 Wood.
- Unlock the required component knowledge. In the Sorcery tree, choose the shaper, tools and coating recipes for the material and role you want.
- Make the body parts. At the Golem Workbench, craft a head, torso, two legs and two arms for a conventional six-part build. Craft coatings and any special parts you want to use at the same station.
- Create weapon arms when needed. A weapon arm is made by fusing a weapon with an empty arm. Select a weapon that fits the job you want the follower to perform.
- Load the Guardian Assembly Station. Place the chosen head, torso, legs and arms into the station. If you use one arm, place a second arm as well; the station will not animate a one-armed arrangement.
- Activate the construct. Start the station’s short ritual. Once the ritual completes, the assembled construct becomes a follower.
The exact time and resource burden depend on which component recipes, materials, coatings and weapon arms you select. There is no single fixed material bill for every possible golem because the workbench crafts modular parts rather than one universal body.
Choose parts by role instead of chasing one “best” golem
A golem’s usefulness comes from the combination of material tier, coatings and weapon arms. The right question is not “Which golem is best?” but “What should this follower do?” A combat guard, a plant gatherer and a mineral hauler have different priorities.
Material tiers
| Material choice | What the available guidance establishes | When to consider it |
|---|---|---|
| Stone | Stone is the basic golem material and has dedicated Stone Guardian Shaper and Stone Guardian Tools progression. | Use it for a straightforward starting construct or when you want the basic material path. |
| Iron | Iron has its own Iron Guardian Shaper and Iron Guardian Tools progression. | Consider it when you have progressed beyond the basic stone path and want specialized iron components. |
| Crystalline or blood-crystal components | Blood crystal supports more powerful parts, and Crystalline Guardian Tools are listed as a progression option. | Reserve these resources for a higher-investment build or for parts whose special properties fit your intended role. |
The available sources do not publish a universal damage multiplier, health total, gathering rate or win rate for these tiers. Treat the material descriptions as progression and specialization guidance, not as a promise of a particular numerical performance increase.
Weapon arms and gathering assignments
Weapon arms determine what the follower is equipped to do. Funcom’s guidance gives three practical pairings:
| Primary task | Weapon example | Reason to choose it |
|---|---|---|
| Plant gathering | Scythe or sickle | These weapons are the examples given for harvesting plant resources. |
| Mineral gathering | Maul | A maul is the example given for collecting mineral resources. |
| Mixed gathering and fighting | Axe | An axe is the example for a compromise between gathering and combat. |
To use one of these choices, first craft an empty arm, then fuse the selected weapon with it at the Golem Workbench to produce a weapon arm. Install a matching second arm so the completed assembly meets the two-arm requirement.

Heads, coatings and the rest of the body
The head is more than cosmetic: the guidance specifically identifies the head as contributing health. If survivability is a priority, do not omit the head merely to save a component. Coatings can change combat behavior, with Brimstone Guardian Coating and Tar Guardian Coating listed among the progression options. Select a coating because it supports the intended behavior rather than treating every coating as an automatic upgrade.
The torso and legs complete the body and allow a conventional six-part arrangement. Arms are the interface between the body and its tools or weapons. A headless or otherwise incomplete construct may animate, but sacrificing parts reduces its practical value, especially in combat.
Role-based build planning
Combat-focused guard
Start with the complete six-part arrangement: head, torso, two legs and two arms. Prioritize the material tier and coating recipes you have deliberately unlocked for combat, then make weapon arms from weapons suited to fighting. Keeping the head preserves its health contribution, while two equipped arms satisfy the animation requirement and give the construct a complete combat loadout.
Because authoritative guidance does not publish damage percentages or comparative combat tests, do not promise that one material or coating wins every fight. Evaluate a combat build by whether its parts, coating and weapons match the enemies and location where you will deploy it.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Plant-gathering worker
Use a complete body if the follower must travel through dangerous areas, and create scythe or sickle weapon arms for the plant-gathering assignment. A head remains useful because it contributes health, particularly when the worker is exposed to hostile creatures. If combat is only an occasional risk, you can still use the same six-part body while investing knowledge and materials in the gathering-oriented weapon arms rather than in a combat specialization.

Mineral-gathering worker
Build the body, then fuse a maul with each empty arm to make the required pair of weapon arms. This is the weapon example associated with mineral gathering. Plan the material tier around the resources you can sustain: a more advanced crystalline or blood-crystal component is an investment, not a requirement stated for every mineral run.
Mixed gatherer and fighter
An axe is the documented compromise for a follower that gathers while retaining a fighting role. Use two axe-based weapon arms, keep the head for its health contribution, and choose a coating that supports the behavior you want. This approach is less narrowly specialized than a plant or mineral tool set, but it avoids maintaining separate followers for every task.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Why the Golem Workbench looks empty
An empty workbench usually means that one of the progression or setup steps is missing rather than that the system is broken. Check these causes in order:
- Huang was not consulted. Return to the correct location and speak with Master Carver Huang. The Golem Constructor knowledge comes from that conversation.
- The wrong station is open. The Golem Workbench makes components; the Guardian Assembly Station animates them. Open the workbench when you need heads, torsos, legs, arms, coatings or weapon arms.
- Component knowledge is locked. Reopen the Sorcery tree and unlock the relevant Stone, Iron, Crystalline, coating or tool knowledge before looking for its recipe.
- You are looking for a complete golem recipe. The workbench lists individual parts. Craft the six components separately, then move them to the assembly station.
- The intended weapon arm has not been fused. A weapon by itself is not the finished arm. Combine it with an empty arm at the workbench.
- The station was not built with a Construction Hammer. Recheck that both stations were placed as their Golem Constructor recipes, then open the appropriate station again.
Once the component recipe is unlocked and its station is open, the recipe still requires the materials for that particular part. The material and time cost changes with the selected component path, so an unlocked recipe is not the same thing as a completed part.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why the assembly station will not animate the construct
Check the arm rule first
The most specific assembly restriction is the two-arm rule. Zero arms can be part of an incomplete arrangement that still animates, and two arms can be installed normally; one arm cannot be used by itself. Add a second arm, or remove the lone arm and choose another incomplete arrangement.

Check the station’s part arrangement
For the standard build, verify that the station contains one head, one torso, two legs and two arms. A missing head or another incomplete body may still animate, but it will not provide the same utility as a complete body. If you are aiming for a conventional follower, replace the missing part before starting the ritual.

When a weapon loadout is planned, make sure each arm is the product of fusing a weapon with an empty arm. The assembly station needs the resulting weapon arm, not an unfused weapon sitting alongside an empty arm.
Managing resources, recipes and upgrade decisions
Budget the two station recipes first, then estimate the parts for the role you actually need. The stations have fixed construction requirements, but the final golem’s bill varies with its material tier, coatings and weapon arms. Unlocking every listed branch before choosing a role can spread your materials and knowledge investment thin; choosing a role first lets you focus on the relevant shaper, tools and coating options.
Stone provides the basic entry path. Iron introduces a separate shaper and tools progression. Crystalline or blood-crystal choices represent a higher-resource direction for more powerful parts. None of these descriptions establishes a universal replacement schedule, so upgrade when a part’s intended function justifies its cost rather than swapping every component automatically.
What the available guidance does—and does not—prove
Funcom’s official guide establishes the Huang unlock, the two-station workflow, the six-part arrangement, the weapon examples and the fact that incomplete constructs can animate. The Conan Exiles Wiki supplies the station recipe quantities and lists the component progression options. Neither source provides an independent combat benchmark, damage percentage, gathering-speed test, follower win rate or universally optimal configuration.
That limitation is important when comparing builds. You can make a reasoned choice from material tier, health contribution, coatings and weapon purpose, but you should not treat an unsupported numerical claim as a guaranteed result for every server, map or encounter.
Quick preparation checklist
- Master Carver Huang has been visited at the correct map location.
- Golem Constructor appears in your knowledge list.
- A Construction Hammer is available for station construction.
- The Guardian Assembly Station has 100 Brick and 100 Iron Bar allocated to its recipe.
- The Golem Workbench has 100 Brick, 50 Iron Bar and 300 Wood allocated to its recipe.
- The Sorcery tree contains the shaper, tools and coating knowledge for your intended build.
- You have planned one head, one torso, two legs and two arms for a complete body.
- Each weapon arm has been made by fusing a weapon with an empty arm.
- If only one arm is installed, add a second before attempting activation.
- The final material and coating choices match the follower’s task: combat, plant gathering, mineral gathering or a mixture.
Final answer
Speak with Huang, unlock Golem Constructor, build both stations, learn the component recipes, make the parts at the workbench, and animate them in the Guardian Assembly Station. Use stone for the basic path, iron or crystalline/blood-crystal options for more specialized investment, and choose weapon arms deliberately: scythes or sickles for plants, mauls for minerals, and axes for a mixed role. A complete six-part body is the dependable default, while a one-armed arrangement is the one incomplete configuration that cannot be animated.
