DurabilityMultiplier controls how much durability damage covered equipment receives when it is used or damaged. Lower values generally reduce wear and extend the life of weapons, shields, tools, and armor; higher values increase maintenance. The setting is available through the server settings menu or the dedicated server’s ServerSettings.ini. However, a long-standing implementation bug can make the multiplier affect only weapons and shields, so a value such as 0 does not reliably make every item indestructible on every platform, patch, or mod setup.
What DurabilityMultiplier changes
Funcom describes DurabilityMultiplier as the setting that “modifies the amount of durability damage that an item takes when used or damaged.” In practical terms, the value scales wear events rather than adding durability to an item’s maximum bar. A lower multiplier means each qualifying use removes less durability; a higher multiplier means each use removes more.

It affects the game world governed by that server, not just one character’s inventory. On a private or dedicated server, an administrator can tune the rule for everyone playing there. In a solo world, the same option is exposed through the world’s server settings interface.
How the documented values compare
The maintained Conan Exiles configuration reference gives illustrative examples based on a 10-point durability-damage event. These numbers explain the direction of the setting, but they are not a universal per-hit formula for every item, attack, platform, or mod.

Think of the value as a wear-rate control, not as a percentage bonus to an item’s maximum durability. A setting of 0.5 does not give an item 50% more maximum durability; it reduces the documented example’s damage event from 10 points to 5. Conversely, 1.5 does not remove 150% of an item’s bar at once. It raises the amount of damage assigned by each applicable event.
Should the multiplier be above or below 1?
Choose below 1 for less maintenance
Use a value between zero and one when you want gathering, combat, and building tools to last longer and require fewer repairs. This is useful for a cooperative server that wants to preserve the survival-game loop without making equipment disappear quickly. The lower the value, the less durability damage the affected items receive under otherwise similar conditions.

Use 1 as the reference point
1.0 is the documented comparison baseline. Keeping it makes the server’s wear behavior easier to compare with guides and player expectations that use the reference configuration.
Choose above 1 for harsher wear
Values above one increase durability damage. A role-playing or challenge server may use this to make maintenance, repair materials, and equipment replacement more important. Because the available examples stop at 1.5, treat larger values as an experiment and verify the result rather than assuming a complete linear formula for every item.

Where to change the setting
In-game server settings
On an administered private server or solo world, open the game’s server settings menu and locate the durability option. Funcom’s private-server guidance identifies the server settings menu as the place where durability rules can be changed. The exact menu layout can vary by game version and platform, so use the setting’s name, DurabilityMultiplier, as the identifier.
Dedicated-server configuration file
For a dedicated server, edit:

Make a backup before editing, change only the intended value, and then use your server’s normal configuration-reload or restart procedure so the server reads the updated file. If a hosting control panel manages the file, make the change through that panel when possible; a panel may overwrite manual edits.
An entry will use the setting name and value, for example DurabilityMultiplier=0.5. Keep the spelling and decimal format consistent with the existing configuration. If the option is absent, use the server settings interface or add it according to the configuration conventions used by your installation rather than placing it in an unrelated section.

How to verify that your change worked
Do not assume that a saved value changed every equipment category. The reference documents a long-standing bug in which the multiplier may affect weapons and shields, including truncheons, while tools or armor continue to lose durability. A short controlled test is the safest way to check your actual setup.
- Record the current multiplier and make a backup of the configuration.
- Choose one weapon or shield and, separately, one tool and one armor piece. Note each item’s current durability.
- Perform a repeatable action that normally causes wear, such as a consistent attack or tool use. Avoid mixing different attacks, targets, or environmental damage in the same comparison.
- Change the multiplier to a clearly different test value, such as
0.5instead of1.0, using the server menu orServerSettings.ini. - Reload the setting using the server’s ordinary procedure, then repeat the same actions with comparable item conditions.
- Compare the durability bars. If weapons or shields change but tools or armor do not, your result matches the known implementation limitation rather than proving the configuration was ignored.
Use the same character, item quality, attack, and target where possible. The published examples describe a reference damage event, not a promise that every hit in your test will remove exactly 5, 10, or 15 points.

The affected-category bug
The intended description includes weapons, tools, and armor, but observed behavior recorded in the maintained configuration reference is narrower: DurabilityMultiplier may apply only to weapons and shields, with truncheons included. If a pick, hatchet, or armor piece still loses durability at zero, that is a known possibility. Verify the behavior on the precise platform, patch, server type, and mod list you use.
The wrong configuration is being edited
A dedicated server reads its server rules from the ServerSettings.ini location above. Editing a similarly named local, client, or obsolete file will not change the running world. Confirm the active server instance and, when a control panel is involved, check the panel’s generated configuration rather than an unrelated copy.

A mod or later patch changes the behavior
Mods can alter durability handling, and a later game update can change an old bug’s scope. Test with the actual mod set and patch used by your players. If a mod advertises a fix, follow that mod’s documentation and still test weapons, shields, tools, and armor separately.
The test measures a different damage source
The multiplier concerns durability damage when an item is used or damaged. A test that combines combat, environmental effects, or different item actions may not isolate the same event. Repeat one controlled action before concluding that the setting failed.

It does not create repair kits
Durability settings and repair kits are separate mechanics. Changing the multiplier changes wear; it does not add repair items to an inventory, change their recipes, or make a broken item repairable.
It does not override Unique and Legendary repair restrictions
Funcom’s Age of War notes state that repair kits work across weapon and armor tiers except Unique and Legendary items. Those Unique and Legendary items cannot be repaired in any way. No multiplier value removes that restriction.

It does not preserve maximum durability after kit use
For eligible weapons and armor, repair kits lower maximum durability by between 2.5% and 20% of the item’s original maximum, depending on the kit tier. That permanent reduction is a property of the repair-kit mechanic, not of DurabilityMultiplier. A lower wear rate can reduce how often you need a kit, but it does not change the maximum-durability penalty when a kit is used.

Choosing a value for common server goals

These are starting points, not universal presets. Player count, combat frequency, item tier, server progression, and mods all change how noticeable wear becomes. Adjust one server rule at a time and announce the change so players understand why their maintenance workload changed.
Practical troubleshooting checklist
- Confirm scope: test a weapon, shield, tool, and armor piece independently.
- Confirm the active world: make sure you changed the settings for the server your character actually joined.
- Confirm the value: check for a decimal typo, duplicate entries, or a management panel that rewrote the file.
- Confirm reload: apply the server’s standard reload or restart process before testing.
- Check mods: temporarily compare behavior with the documented mod configuration, if practical and safe for your world.
- Use repeatable actions: compare the same item type and action rather than mixing unrelated damage sources.
- Restore the backup: if the server behaves unexpectedly, return to the known-good configuration and retest with one change.
Limits of the available formula
The documented examples establish the direction of the multiplier and illustrate values of zero, one-half, one, and one-and-a-half. They do not publish a complete current formula covering every item, platform, attack, damage source, or mod combination. Consequently, it is accurate to say that 0.5 represents less wear than 1.0 in the reference example, but not to promise that every item loses exactly half as many durability points in every circumstance.
When you need a precise rule for a particular server, measure that rule in-game with a controlled test and record the game version, platform, server type, and mods. Treat the result as configuration-specific rather than as a universal Conan Exiles law.
Bottom line for administrators
Set DurabilityMultiplier below 1.0 to reduce durability damage and above 1.0 to increase it. The documented reference examples are 0, 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5, but they illustrate the setting’s direction rather than a universal per-hit equation. Change the option in server settings or ConanSandbox/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/ServerSettings.ini, then test each equipment category. In particular, do not promise indestructible tools or armor at zero: the long-standing bug may limit the multiplier to weapons and shields. Repair-kit behavior remains separate, including the 2.5%–20% maximum-durability reduction and the rule that Unique and Legendary items cannot be repaired.
