To find the best internet provider for your home, search your exact address in the FCC National Broadband Map, confirm service directly with the providers it lists, then compare each orderable plan’s full price and Broadband Facts label. The map helps you find candidates; it does not guarantee installation, real-world performance, or affordability.

How to find internet providers that serve your address

  1. Search your exact address. Open the FCC National Broadband Map and enter the street address. Check the specific unit or location if the map distinguishes among locations at the same property.
  2. Record the listed options. For each provider, note the reported technology and maximum advertised download and upload speeds. Fixed options shown on the map include fiber, cable, DSL, satellite, and fixed wireless. Use the map’s filters if you need to inspect additional technologies or speeds; services below 25 Mbps download are hidden by default and can be exposed with filters, according to the FCC’s map guidance.
  3. Make a shortlist, not a final decision. The map is based on provider-submitted availability information. Its entries are a useful discovery tool, not proof that a provider will sell service to your exact unit or that you will receive the displayed maximum speed.

The FCC puts the distinction plainly: “The National Broadband Map shows internet availability, not network performance, affordability, or adoption.” That distinction matters: availability tells you where to investigate, while a provider’s plan terms and performance information help you decide what to buy.

Confirm that each provider will actually install service

Before comparing offers, check each candidate’s website or contact its sales team using your full address, including apartment or unit number. Ask whether the plan is orderable at that location, what installation dates are available, and whether installation requires additional charges or work.

For the map, availability includes an existing or prior connection, or the provider’s ability to initiate service through routine installation within 10 business days without extraordinary monetary charges or network-extension delays. That map definition does not replace a provider’s address-specific confirmation when you place an order.

  • Next-gen Dual Band router - 300 Mbps on 2. 4 GHz (802. 11n) plus 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz (802. 11ax)
  • Connect more devices than ever before - Wi-Fi 6 technology simultaneously communicates more data to more devices using OFDMA and MU-MIMO while reducing lag dramatically
  • Powerful Dual-Core 900MHz Processor – Handles multiple data streams simultaneously for reliable performance across your devices. Ensures smooth streaming, online gaming, and video conferencing without buffering or lag.

If a provider says it cannot serve an address where the map reports service, keep the provider’s response and details of your order attempt. The FCC has a process for challenging reported availability. Its challenge guidance distinguishes a claim that service or a reported speed is unavailable for purchase from a subscriber’s complaint that delivered service is slower than expected; the latter is a performance complaint, not an availability challenge.

Compare the plans using their Broadband Facts labels

Once you know which plans are actually available, compare the provider’s Broadband Facts label for each one. Headline download speed and an introductory price can obscure differences in ongoing cost, upload speed, data terms, and contract obligations.

TP-Link AX1800 WiFi 6 Router (Archer AX21 V5)
  • DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
  • AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
  • CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
  • EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
  • OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
  • Price over time: Record the monthly price during any promotion, how long it lasts, and the regular monthly price afterward. For a longer-term comparison, use the post-promotion price rather than treating the introductory amount as the lasting cost.
  • Other charges: Check monthly provider fees, one-time fees, taxes, and any early termination charges. Confirm which charges apply to your order, since a label may not resolve every address- or offer-specific detail.
  • Typical performance: Compare typical download speed, upload speed, and latency. The FCC map’s maximum advertised speeds are not a substitute for these plan-level figures or a guarantee of the speed you will experience.
  • Data: Look for included data, any usage limits, and charges for additional usage.
  • Commitment: Check whether a contract is required, its duration, and the terms for ending service.
  • Discounts and bundles: Note which discounts depend on bundling or other conditions, and compare the resulting price with the plan’s regular cost.
  • Equipment: Check what equipment is included, what you must supply or rent, and whether using your own equipment changes the offer. Confirm modem or router requirements and compatibility with the provider before buying anything.
  • Policies and support: Review the label’s links to network management and privacy policies, along with its customer support information.

Choose the plan that fits your household

There is no universal winner among fiber, cable, DSL, satellite, and fixed wireless: what is available and suitable depends on the address and the plans a provider will actually sell there. Compare the options you have confirmed on the same practical criteria.

  • Cost: Consider the recurring price after any promotion as well as fees and other charges that apply to your order.
  • Performance: Weigh typical download and upload speeds and latency against how your household uses the connection. Consider concurrent work, video calls, streaming, gaming, and connected devices rather than relying on one maximum advertised speed.
  • Limits and flexibility: Check data terms, contract length, and termination charges against your likely usage and how long you expect to keep the plan.
  • Practical availability: Consider confirmed installation timing, address-specific charges, and equipment requirements alongside the plan’s headline offer.

The FCC comparison materials do not establish one speed tier that suits every household. Use the map’s technology and maximum-speed information to build a shortlist, then make the purchase decision from confirmed availability and the plan labels.

Keep a side-by-side comparison before ordering

For each confirmed plan, write down the values below from its Broadband Facts label and the provider’s address-specific confirmation. If a term is missing or unclear, ask the provider rather than assuming it matches another plan.

What to compare What to record
Availability and installation Provider confirmation for the exact address, earliest installation timing, and any address-specific installation conditions or charges
Price Introductory monthly price and duration, regular monthly price, monthly fees, one-time fees, and applicable taxes
Performance Typical download speed, typical upload speed, and latency
Data Included data, usage limits, and charges for additional usage
Contract Whether a contract is required, its duration, and early termination terms
Equipment and support Included or required equipment, own-equipment conditions, and customer support details

When two plans appear close, compare the recurring price and terms you will actually pay, not just the first-month offer or the largest speed number on the map.
