Choose a travel compact by how you want to frame a scene: the Sony RX100 VII offers the widest documented zoom range here, while the Fujifilm X100VI and Ricoh GR IIIx HDF commit to fixed focal lengths. The Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III is another built-in-zoom option. The available specifications support four distinct cameras, not a defensible fifth pick, so this guide compares those four without padding the list.
Which travel compact fits the way you shoot?
| Camera | Lens and framing | Sensor | Weight in cited source | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sony RX100 VII | 8.0x optical zoom; 24–200 mm equivalent | 20.1 MP, 1.0-type | Not stated in the cited Sony specifications | Travelers who want wide-to-telephoto framing in one camera |
| Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III | 4.2x optical zoom with optical image stabilization; focal-length range not stated on the cited product page | Not stated in the cited product-page details | 304 g, as listed by Canon India; regional specification | Travelers seeking a zoom compact for stills and video |
| Fujifilm X100VI | Fixed 23 mm lens, 35 mm equivalent; no optical zoom | 40.2 MP, APS-C | 521 g with battery and card, as listed by the Fujifilm UK store | Travelers who prefer a larger sensor and a consistent, moderately wide view |
| Ricoh GR IIIx HDF | Fixed 26.1 mm lens, approximately 40 mm equivalent; no optical zoom | Not stated in the cited product-page details | Not stated in the cited product-page details | Travelers who like a tighter, normal-angle view and compose without zoom |
Specifications are not a substitute for a head-to-head image-quality test. Megapixel counts and sensor formats alone do not establish which camera will make the best photographs for you.
What the lens choice means on a trip
Zoom: adapt to the scene without changing lenses
The Sony RX100 VII covers 24–200 mm equivalent, making it the most versatile documented choice here for moving between landscapes, street scenes, and more distant subjects. Sony specifies 8.0x optical zoom. The Canon G7 X Mark III also has a built-in zoom—Canon lists 4.2x optical zoom—but the cited U.S. product page does not establish its focal-length range, so the zoom ratio alone does not tell you exactly how wide or long it frames.

Fixed lens: accept a view and compose around it
The X100VI’s 23 mm lens gives a 35 mm-equivalent view; the GR IIIx HDF’s 26.1 mm lens gives approximately 40 mm equivalent. Neither has optical zoom. A fixed view can suit a traveler who is happy to move position, crop selectively, or leave distant subjects unframed rather than carry a camera whose lens changes range.
#1 Best Overall
- 16MP Sensor: Captures detailed photos with a CMOS sensor for everyday shooting
- Optical Zoom: 5x optical zoom with a 28mm wide angle lens for flexible framing indoors or outdoors
- Full HD Video: Records 1080p video for travel clips, family moments, or simple vlogging
- Memory Support: Works with Class 10 SD, SDHC, or SDXC cards up to 512GB
- Rechargeable Battery: Included LB-012 lithium-ion battery charges in the camera over USB with the supplied adapter in about 2 hours; charge it for at least 4 hours before first use to maximize battery life
How to choose among the four
Choose the Sony RX100 VII for the broadest documented range
Its 24–200 mm equivalent optical zoom makes it the straightforward fit when a single camera needs to cover both wide scenes and faraway details. Sony lists a 20.1-megapixel 1.0-type sensor. Those figures describe the design; they do not by themselves prove image quality or autofocus performance.
Choose the Canon G7 X Mark III for a zoom-and-video mix
Canon presents the G7 X Mark III as a compact for stills and video, and specifies a 4.2x optical zoom with optical image stabilization. The cited pages do not establish a complete comparable set of focal range, sensor, or video-performance figures, so check the current specification for the exact regional version before deciding.

Choose the Fujifilm X100VI for a fixed 35 mm-equivalent view
Fujifilm specifies a 40.2-megapixel APS-C sensor, a fixed 23 mm lens (35 mm equivalent), and five-axis sensor-shift stabilization. It makes sense if that fixed framing matches your photographs and the larger body is acceptable: Fujifilm’s UK store lists 521 g with battery and card. That is a UK product-page figure, not a universal measurement.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Choose the Ricoh GR IIIx HDF for a fixed, tighter view
Ricoh specifies a 26.1 mm lens, approximately 40 mm equivalent, and shake reduction. Its focal length is the more natural fit of these two fixed-lens options if you prefer a tighter view than the X100VI’s 35 mm equivalent. It is not the choice for someone who needs optical zoom to reframe quickly.

What to verify before buying
- Local configuration and availability: Confirm the exact model and included features with the manufacturer or seller serving your market.
- Weight: Compare figures only when they use the same basis, such as whether battery and card are included. The cited Canon and Fujifilm weights come from different regional pages and are not a like-for-like comparison.
- Price and stock: Check current local listings; the cited manufacturer pages do not establish live prices or availability.
- Storage: Check the manual or official specifications for the compatible memory-card type and supported capacity before buying a card.
- Handling and video needs: Confirm the screen, viewfinder, battery, stabilization behavior, and video formats against your intended use. The cited specifications do not support a complete, consistent comparison of those features across all four models.
Why this guide includes four cameras, not five
The manufacturer information available for this comparison substantiates four distinct compact cameras. It does not establish a fifth candidate against the same criteria, such as lens design, sensor, handling, and regional availability. Adding an unsourced name to reach five would make the list less useful, not more complete.
