COLDCARD says it is investigating after a phishing link appeared in a post on its official X account on October 11, 2026. The post, framed as a security notice and linking to a fake wallet-migration guide, was deleted. COLDCARD reportedly found no matching login, session, or access records and asked X’s security team to investigate. The posting mechanism and any impact on users have not been confirmed.
What is confirmed about the phishing post
Same-day reporting by TokenPost says the post appeared on COLDCARD’s official X account, presented itself as a security notice, and linked to a phishing site posing as a wallet-migration guide. The post was deleted. COLDCARD reportedly said it found no corresponding login, session, or access records, and that its credentials and offline two-factor authentication remained secure. It asked X’s security team to investigate possible platform- or administrator-level access.
Those findings do not establish how the post was published. A compromised X platform mechanism or administrator-level access is a possibility under investigation, not a confirmed explanation. The reviewed reporting also does not establish how long the link was live, how many people saw it, whether anyone followed it, or whether funds were lost.

- Do not click, repost, or otherwise circulate the link from the deleted post.
- Never enter seed words or a passphrase into a website reached through a social-media post. A post by itself is not proof that wallet migration is required.
- To check an actual security notice, type the official COLDCARD domain yourself and consult its security-status page and support guidance rather than following a link in a post.
- If you already entered seed words or a passphrase on the phishing site, treat the wallet as potentially exposed and seek trusted, official guidance promptly. Do not rely on updating firmware or buying a replacement device to make an exposed seed safe.
This X incident is separate from COLDCARD’s firmware warning
COLDCARD’s official security-status page documents a separate July 2026 firmware seed-generation incident. It lists standard firmware versions 5.6.3 for Mk4/Mk5 and 1.5.3Q for Q as verified October 1, 2026. These version listings concern firmware status; they do not explain how the October phishing post appeared on X.

The official page cautions that updating corrects future seed generation but does not repair an existing seed generated on affected firmware. Users whose seeds may fall within the affected scope should follow the page’s official migration guidance. A firmware update or a new device should not be treated as a fix for an already affected seed.
What remains unknown
Based on the reporting available October 11, 2026, neither the posting method nor the exposure window has been verified publicly. The number of viewers, clicks, and any confirmed losses are also unknown. Until COLDCARD or X publishes verified follow-up information, claims about the cause or consequences go beyond what has been established.
