If Coinme verification failed, do not open another account. Coinme normally gives you one additional attempt. If the second attempt also fails, stop submitting applications and contact support through the Help chatbot. The fastest route to full account features is SSN verification; government-ID-and-selfie verification is an alternative with more limited features.
This guide explains which verification route to use, how to retake an acceptable ID photo, what Coinme’s published limits mean, and how to distinguish a failed identity check from a temporary security lock, a routine sign-in problem, or permanent account termination.
What Coinme verification checks before you can transact
Coinme requires identity verification before transactions. You must be a US resident, have a cellular phone number, and satisfy the requirements of the verification route you choose. Some VoIP carriers are not supported. For the government-ID route, Coinme accepts US-issued government identification only; expired IDs and passports are rejected.
Recommended Free Tools
There are two principal paths:
| Verification route | Information or documents | Features and recovery |
|---|---|---|
| SSN verification | Social Security number plus the personal details returned for your identity record: name, address, date of birth, and phone information | Coinme describes this as the fastest route and the route that can unlock selling, sending, and the highest published consumer limits. You can correct returned details before submitting. |
| Government ID and selfie | A valid US-issued government ID, photographs of the original document, and a selfie | An alternative when SSN verification is unavailable, but with more limited features. The document must meet Coinme’s image and validity requirements. |
A failed check is not the same as a locked account. A failed check means the submitted identity information or images could not be approved. A locked-out message means Coinme has temporarily restricted the account while it reviews activity. The remedies and waiting periods differ, so identify the message you received before trying again.

Fix a failed Coinme identity check step by step
1. Confirm that you are eligible
- Make sure you are a US resident.
- Use a cellular number. Coinme says some VoIP carriers are unsupported.
- If you choose the document route, use an unexpired, US-issued government ID. Do not use a passport or an expired document.
If any of these conditions is false, changing the photograph will not solve the failure. Resolve the eligibility issue or use the supported verification route before spending your remaining attempt.
2. Correct the details returned during SSN verification
When you select SSN verification, Coinme displays the name, address, date of birth, and phone details it found. Read every field carefully. If a field is wrong, edit it before submitting rather than accepting the prefilled value. A mismatch in one of these details can prevent the check from completing even when the SSN itself is valid.
Coinme identifies SSN verification as the quickest path to all features and the highest limits. If the returned information is accurate and you still receive a failure, preserve the exact error message for support rather than repeatedly resubmitting.

Use the original physical ID, not a screenshot, scan displayed on another monitor, or photograph of a phone screen. Place the document on a dark, plain surface. Use bright, even lighting without reflections, hold the device steady, and keep all four corners visible. Take both the front and back images when the app requests them. Retake the selfie in the same good lighting and keep your face unobstructed.
Before you submit, inspect each preview at full size. Glare that hides text, a cropped corner, motion blur, or an image of an image can cause rejection even when the ID is valid.

4. Use your second attempt carefully
Coinme says a first failure normally leaves one more attempt. Treat that attempt as a final quality check: verify the personal details, replace poor images, and confirm that the document is current and US-issued. Do not keep experimenting after the second failure.
5. Contact support after two failures
Coinme’s verification FAQ states: “You’ll have a second attempt available. If both fail, please reach out to customer support — do not create a new account.” Opening another account can create a phone-number or duplicate-account problem and may make review harder.

The following checklist addresses the image problems most likely to invalidate an otherwise eligible document:
- Use the physical document: Never submit a screenshot, a saved image, or a photo of a screen showing the ID.
- Show the complete card: Include all four corners and the entire front or back requested by the app.
- Control reflections: Turn off a direct flash or change the angle so holograms and laminate do not obscure text.
- Use a dark, plain background: A contrasting surface helps the capture frame detect the card edges.
- Light the card evenly: Avoid shadows across the portrait, ID number, expiration date, or barcode.
- Hold the device still: Rest your hands or the phone if necessary and wait for the camera to focus.
- Check validity: An expired ID or a passport will not satisfy the stated route requirements.
- Complete both sides: If the workflow asks for front and back, submit both original views rather than one side twice.
If the camera repeatedly refuses to capture a sharp image, clean the lens, move to brighter indirect light, and remove any case or accessory that blocks the camera. These are capture improvements, not a substitute for an eligible document.
Coinme limits depend on the route and transaction rail
Coinme publishes different limits for consumer verification flows and for specific transaction rails in its developer documentation. They should not be combined into one universal account limit. Check whether you are buying or selling, using cash or a debit card, and whether a partner’s KYC process applies.

What each account status means
“Verification failed”
This status concerns the identity submission. Correct the data or images and use the remaining attempt. After two failures, support must review the case. Creating a second account is specifically discouraged.
“Locked out” or “account temporarily restricted”
Coinme says: “If you see a locked out error message when trying to log in, your account has been temporarily restricted pending a review.” The account is placed automatically in a review queue, and Coinme says you do not need to submit a separate unlock request. The company will contact you with next steps or the review outcome.
Coinme lists unusual activity as a possible trigger, including an unfamiliar location or a transaction pattern that appears fraudulent. Do not repeatedly change devices, locations, or account details while the review is pending; keep your contact information available so you can respond to the review.
“Account terminated” or “permanently closed”
Termination is different from a temporary lock and is final according to Coinme’s help article. Support cannot provide the specific closure reason. If a voucher or balance is still pending, you can submit it for reimbursement review; that request does not reopen the account.

A normal sign-in problem
Not every login failure is an identity failure. A missing or expired multi-factor authentication code, incorrect credentials, a full browser cache, an unsupported browser, or a browser extension can block sign-in without changing your verification status. Resolve these technical issues separately:
- Request a new MFA code and enter it before it expires.
- Recheck the username, password, and phone number associated with the account.
- Clear the browser cache or use a supported, up-to-date browser.
- Temporarily disable extensions that alter scripts, pop-ups, privacy controls, or autofill.
- Try the normal login flow again before concluding that the account is under review.
How to contact Coinme after verification fails
If you can log in
- Sign in to your Coinme account.
- Open the Help chatbot.
- Explain whether the first or second verification attempt failed and identify the route used: SSN or ID plus selfie.
- Include the exact on-screen message, the time of the attempt, and the correction you already made.
Coinme says the most common delay in support requests is identity verification, so supplying complete information at the first contact can reduce back-and-forth.
If you cannot log in
Use the support channel available from the Help area and provide enough information for Coinme to locate the account:
- The phone number on the account
- The account email address
- A valid state-issued ID when requested
- The voucher number, if a voucher or balance is involved
- Any phone-number mismatch, duplicate-account issue, or information about another account you may have opened
- The exact lock, verification, or sign-in message
Do not send more identity documents through an unverified channel. Use Coinme’s in-product or official Help workflow and follow the instructions it gives for secure document submission.
A practical decision path
- Check the wording: “Verification failed” calls for a corrected submission; “locked out” calls for a review; “terminated” is a final closure decision; an MFA or browser error is a sign-in problem.
- Check eligibility: US residency, cellular number, and a current US-issued ID for the document route.
- Choose the route: Use SSN verification when the displayed personal details are accurate and you need selling, sending, or higher limits. Use ID plus selfie when that route is the available alternative and you accept its feature limitations.
- Improve the submission: Correct SSN fields or retake original ID images with complete corners, no glare, a dark background, and steady focus.
- Protect the final attempt: Submit once after reviewing every field and image.
- Escalate correctly: After two failed attempts, contact support and do not create another account. For a lock, wait for the review contact rather than filing an unlock request.
Questions people ask about Coinme verification
Can I transact before verification is approved?
Coinme requires identity verification before transactions. A failed first SSN attempt may still leave the lower $2,900 daily allowance described in its April 2026 consumer article, but the exact availability depends on the flow and account configuration.

Is SSN verification mandatory?
No. Coinme also describes government-ID-and-selfie verification. That route has more limited features than SSN verification and requires an eligible US-issued ID.
What if my legal name or address changed?
Review the details Coinme returns during SSN verification and correct inaccurate fields before submission. If the account information and your current records cannot be reconciled, give support the exact mismatch instead of creating a new account.
Will retrying many times unlock my account?
No. Coinme provides one additional verification attempt after a first failure. After two failures, stop retrying and contact support. A locked account is placed in a review queue automatically, so a separate unlock request is not required.
What happens to funds after termination?
Coinme says termination is final. A pending voucher or balance may be submitted for reimbursement review, but support cannot provide the specific closure reason or restore the account.
