Coastline Bank Home Contents Plus (strata owners) is listed by CHOICE as a standard sum-insured contents policy, but the public information available does not establish its current premium, excess or full policy terms. Coastline distributes insurance under the CGU brand; Insurance Australia Limited is identified as the issuer. Before choosing it, check the current policy documents and your strata scheme’s insurance so you know what your own contents cover needs to include.
What is Coastline Bank Home Contents Plus for strata owners?
CHOICE lists “Coastline Bank Home Contents Plus (strata owners)” as a standard sum-insured policy and describes it as white-label IAG cover. Standard sum insured means the policyholder selects a contents sum insured; it does not mean a building-rebuild amount is included. The listing is in CHOICE’s contents insurance comparison.
Coastline Bank’s home insurance page says Coastline Credit Union Limited trades as Coastline Bank and acts under its own Australian financial services licence and an agreement with Insurance Australia Limited (AFSL 227681), under the CGU brand. In practical terms, Coastline is the distributor, CGU is the brand, and Insurance Australia Limited is identified as the insurer. The current Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and your certificate of insurance set out the contract that applies to you.
What does strata contents insurance cover?
Contents insurance is intended to cover insured household belongings, subject to the policy’s definitions, insured events, exclusions and limits. With strata property, the boundary between an owner’s responsibility and the owners corporation’s or body corporate’s insurance can depend on the scheme and the property. The public material reviewed does not establish which fixtures or other property this exact policy covers in every strata arrangement.

Before setting a contents sum insured, review your scheme’s insurance information and ask the strata manager or owners corporation what its policy covers within your lot. Then check the Coastline/CGU PDS and certificate for the policy’s definition of contents, treatment of fixtures, event cover and item limits. Coastline’s page also mentions optional valuable contents, motor burnout and portable contents features in its general home-insurance presentation; confirm whether any of these are available for this specific policy and quote.
Does it cover temporary accommodation for a strata owner?
Coastline says its contents insurance covers reasonable temporary accommodation costs for an owner-occupier whose home is part of a strata or similar scheme, subject to terms, conditions and limits. The public page does not establish the applicable limit for this exact policy variant. Check the current PDS and your certificate for the circumstances that trigger the benefit, the covered costs, applicable limits and exclusions.

How does contents-only differ from building-and-contents cover?
Contents-only cover is for insured belongings and does not, by its title, establish that the policy insures the building. Building-and-contents cover combines building cover with contents cover, but the wording and benefits can differ between products.

What policy documents and details should you check?
Coastline’s insurance page links to policy and product information, including the PDS, Target Market Determination (TMD), Premium, Excess & Discounts Guide and Home Contents Key Facts Sheet. Read the versions that apply to your quote, and check your certificate for the selected cover and excess.
- Contents sum insured: Work out which belongings need cover and how the policy expects you to calculate their value.
- Events and exclusions: Check treatment of water damage, theft, accidental damage and any waiting periods; do not assume an event is covered because it appears in a general product summary.
- Limits: Review caps or conditions for valuables, portable items, visitors’ belongings, temporary accommodation and fixtures.
- Excess: Identify the standard excess and any special excesses that could apply to particular claims.
- Eligibility and occupancy: Confirm that the policy accepts your ownership and occupancy situation.
- Strata insurance boundary: Establish which fixtures and other property are already insured by the owners corporation or body corporate.
Is the policy good value?
The available public sources do not establish a current premium or excess for the strata-owner Home Contents Plus policy, so they do not support a price or value-for-money verdict. CHOICE says its assessment of the separate combined Buildings and Contents Plus product was scored on cover only because the insurer did not share price data; that is not a price assessment of this contents-only policy.

Request an individual quote and compare it with alternatives using equivalent contents sums insured, insured events, exclusions, item limits, excesses, occupancy conditions and payment terms. Include any discounts and account for what your strata scheme already insures. A lower premium is not a like-for-like saving if the cover, limits or excess differ.
Verdict
Coastline Bank Home Contents Plus (strata owners) is a listed sum-insured contents option, and Coastline says temporary accommodation may be covered for eligible owner-occupiers in strata schemes. The available evidence is not enough to confirm the exact current terms, premium or excess, or to establish how the policy treats every fixture in a particular lot. It is worth considering only after you have checked the applicable policy documents, clarified the strata insurance boundary and compared an actual quote on equivalent terms.
