For a startup running a gaming delivery app, the five options below differ more in how they meter logs than in any directly comparable monthly price. Grafana Cloud Logs and New Relic publish free allowances; Better Stack publishes ingestion and retention rates; Sentry Logs adds volume-based overage where a plan permits it; and Datadog bills indexed events according to the selected retention policy. None can be named the cheapest without a workload and retention scenario.
“Gaming delivery” is the application context here, not a distinct logging product category established by these vendors. When evaluating a service, consider whether it can support the logs you need to troubleshoot game clients, APIs, matchmaking, and delivery infrastructure—and verify the exact region, plan, and billing terms for your account.
How to compare logging costs for a startup app
A per-GB rate is not a full bill. A provider may charge for data ingestion, retained data, indexed events, query scans, or a combination. A free allowance may also apply only to a particular product or usage unit.
- Billing unit: Identify whether charges are based on incoming data, stored data, indexed events, query volume, or other metered resources.
- Included usage: Check the free volume, the period it covers, and whether the plan permits paid overage.
- Retention and querying: Compare the included search window and any additional charges for longer retention or heavy querying.
- Region and residency: Confirm where logs and backups are stored, whether you can select a region, and whether that selection affects price.
- Product scope: Distinguish a dedicated logs service from logging inside a broader observability suite or app-error monitoring product.
- Budget controls: Confirm whether the plan offers spend limits or alerts, and whether any commitment applies.
The vendor-published prices and allowances below were surfaced on 2026-10-07. They are not normalized quotes or an independent price audit. Confirm current prices, currency, tax treatment, billing cadence, and eligibility with each vendor before committing.

Five cloud logging pricing options
| Service | Published pricing and metering | EU/US location evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Grafana Cloud Logs | Grafana Cloud advertises an always-free tier at $0 and Pro from $19/month plus usage. Logs billing distinguishes processed, written, retained, and queried GB. The documentation lists a 50 GB written-volume allowance before charges, minimum retention of 14 days on Free and 30 days on paid plans, and query volume above 100 times written volume as potentially billable. See Grafana Cloud pricing and Grafana Cloud Logs billing details. | The cited pricing and billing details do not establish which region a new customer’s particular stack will receive. Verify the region and residency terms for the specific account and product configuration. |
| New Relic | New Relic lists 100 GB of free data ingest, an original data option at $0.40/GB, and Data Plus at $0.60/GB. EU data storage adds $0.05/GB/month, according to its pricing page. See New Relic pricing. | New Relic’s region guide identifies US, EU, and Japan data regions. EU storage has the additional charge listed above. See New Relic data regions. |
| Better Stack Logs & Traces | Its pricing page lists 3 GB/month retained for 3 days as included, ingestion at $0.10/GB, retention at $0.05/GB/month, and standard querying included. Query boost is $0.001/GB scanned. See Better Stack Logs & Traces pricing. | Better Stack lists self-serve clusters in Virginia, Oregon, Germany, and Singapore on its enterprise page. Confirm the location selectable for your account and the applicable pricing configuration. See Better Stack cluster locations. |
| Sentry Logs | Sentry says plans include 5 GB of Logs volume. Additional use costs $0.50/GB where the plan allows a pay-as-you-go budget; some plans do not allow that budget. See Sentry Logs pricing. | Sentry documents an EU data center in Frankfurt with backups in the EU, and says EU residency is available on all plans. Pricing is the same for US and EU regions and denominated in USD. See Sentry EU data residency. |
| Datadog Log Management | Datadog’s billing materials say indexed log events are billed per million at rates associated with the selected retention policy, with a monthly commitment on indexed events. A universal total is not established: site, retention, and configuration matter. See Datadog log billing and Datadog Log Management pricing. | The cited pricing evidence does not establish a complete EU/US residency comparison across configurations. Verify your account’s site and eligible regional storage options. |
What the pricing differences mean
Free allowances are not directly comparable
Grafana Cloud’s free tier and its Logs-specific written-volume allowance are distinct details in a usage-based billing structure. New Relic instead publishes a free data-ingest allowance alongside per-GB options. Compare the exact metered unit and allowance conditions rather than treating either headline as a blanket amount of free logging.
Retention and searches can change the bill
Grafana Cloud’s billing separates written, retained, and queried data; Better Stack lists retention separately from ingestion and includes standard querying while pricing query boost by scanned GB. Datadog ties indexed-event rates to retention policy and uses a monthly commitment. For Sentry, establish whether your plan allows a paid usage budget before relying on the published overage rate.
Rank #2
Regional evidence is uneven
New Relic identifies US and EU regions, Better Stack lists US and Germany clusters, and Sentry documents Frankfurt storage with EU backups and the same USD pricing across US and EU regions. The cited evidence does not establish equivalent region choices for a new Grafana Cloud stack or a complete Datadog regional-residency comparison. Ask each vendor what is stored in-region, where backups reside, and what region selection changes in the bill.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsProduct fit matters as much as the rate
These are not identical products. Sentry Logs may be relevant to an app team already using Sentry, but the cited information does not establish that it replaces every general-purpose infrastructure logging workflow. For any option, check whether its scope and query capabilities cover the app components you need to diagnose.

Build a fair monthly cost estimate
Before comparing vendors, define the workload and the features that must be included. Without those assumptions, a single “cheapest” choice would be misleading.
- Estimate monthly log ingest. Record expected GB per month and, where relevant, typical event size and volume variation.
- Set a retention target. Specify how many days searchable logs must remain available; distinguish that from any longer archival requirement.
- Estimate query use. Consider how often the team searches logs and whether searches scan a substantial volume.
- List other metered resources. Include users, hosts, or indexed events if the plan meters them separately.
- Choose the required region. Confirm the selected location, backup location, residency terms, and any regional price difference.
- Check plan and budget conditions. Verify free-allowance eligibility, overage rules, commitments, and available spend alerts or limits.
Then apply each provider’s current billing rules to the same assumptions. Check the live terms for configuration-specific charges rather than multiplying one advertised rate by ingest alone.
