No film adaptation of Hellraiser: Revival has been announced. In an interview published October 15, 2026, Clive Barker said the game is a “wake-up call” for people making franchise films and that he has many ideas he wants to develop in the Hellraiser universe. His comments describe creative momentum and a possible proof of concept—not a confirmed movie project.
What Clive Barker actually said
Speaking with Dread Central’s Brad Miska, Barker said, “I think what was achieved in the game is a wake-up call to anyone who’s been involved in the making of a franchise like Hellraiser.” He added that creators should “get your ideas warmed over so you can go back into existing worlds in a brand new way.”

Barker also said, “I have many ideas that I’d like to see realized in the Hellraiser universe, and I’m planning to keep my fingers in that pie.” He described Revival as a proof of concept for how much room remains to explore the mythology, while explicitly making clear that he was not announcing a movie adaptation of the game.

His other comments were similarly aspirational. Barker said, “I’d love to have another go at it and explore,” and argued that Hellraiser is “a mythology that could be given some real space to develop and expand upon myth.” He said ideas he has kept “waiting in the wings” could become Hellraiser films or projects in other media, but he did not identify a studio, production schedule, cast, or specific film.

What kinds of movie ideas did Revival inspire?
Barker pointed toward a darker, more historically charged direction. He mentioned imagery from Rome, the Vatican and the Inquisition, and cited Black Sunday and Suspiria as inspirations. These references indicate the mood and subject matter he would like to explore; they are not announced productions, titles or plot summaries.
He also discussed Doug Bradley, who voiced Pinhead in the game, saying, “Doug is Pinhead and Pinhead is Doug. They occupy the same space.” That is a statement about the character’s enduring association with Bradley, not confirmation of a new film casting decision.

What Hellraiser: Revival is
Hellraiser: Revival is a single-player, first-person action survival-horror game. The player controls Aidan, who uses melee and ranged weapons and the powers of the Genesis Configuration while trying to rescue his girlfriend, Sunny, from the Labyrinth.

The central story
According to PlayStation’s July 16, 2026 feature, Sunny activates the Genesis Configuration and is torn apart by Cenobites. Aidan learns that her soul may still be saved. The Scarlet Church is seeking contact with the Cenobites and hopes to use the box to create a debauched paradise. The Unworthy—rejects of Leviathan—are drawn to the box as a possible path to redemption.

Barker’s involvement
The game is a new story in the Hellraiser universe rather than a declared continuation of one specific film. Saber Interactive consulted Barker to preserve the authenticity of his film vision. The official Clive Barker website says he helped refine the game’s ideas, visual style, story motifs, lore and character personalities. Doug Bradley provides the voice of Pinhead.
Is Revival connected to the original Hellraiser films?
It is connected through the broader Hellraiser universe, its Cenobite mythology and Barker’s creative participation. The available descriptions do not present it as a direct sequel to an individual film. Its story follows Aidan and Sunny, introduces the Genesis Configuration’s role in their crisis, and expands the setting with the Scarlet Church and the Unworthy.

Release date, platforms and editions
PlayStation’s official feature lists October 8, 2026 as the PS5 launch date and says the game released digitally and on physical media. In the October 15 interview, Barker described the released game as available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. Because platform stock and regional listings can change, check the current retailer listing for your country before buying.

How long was Revival in development?
Game director Emil Esov said in PlayStation’s July 16, 2026 feature that development lasted “4+ years.” That is the developer’s stated duration, not an independently measured production record.
What this means for future Hellraiser films
Revival gives Barker a current example of a Hellraiser story expanding beyond the original film framework, and his comments show that he wants to keep developing the mythology across film and other media. The next concrete step would be a formal announcement naming a production, distributor, director, cast or release plan. Until that happens, references to a Hellraiser movie based on Revival should be treated as speculation rather than news.
