Neither site is always cheaper or better. For one itinerary, compare the final payment-page total, cancellation rules, baggage, payment offers and any protection add-on. Cleartrip is stronger when its published cancellation fees or ClearChoice Plus rescheduling terms suit your trip. MakeMyTrip is stronger when its total is lower or you specifically want optional Zero Cancellation or Price Drop Protection and meet their conditions.
Cleartrip vs MakeMyTrip: the short answer
Search-result fares are only the starting point. The useful comparison is the amount payable for the same passengers, flight, fare type, baggage and payment method after every fee and discount appears at checkout.
Cleartrip documents a platform cancellation charge of ₹400 per passenger per sector for domestic flights and ₹1,000 for international flights, in addition to the airline’s own charge. It also sells ClearChoice Plus, which can provide date-change flexibility under stated deadlines and limits.

MakeMyTrip’s payment-page total usually includes the base fare, government taxes and convenience fee. It also offers optional products: Zero Cancellation, advertised in its 2026 terms from ₹149 per passenger, and Price Drop Protection. Both are conditional products, not automatic rights attached to every booking.

Airline fare rules and operational decisions control the underlying ticket on either platform. An online travel agency can process a request or refund, but it cannot override an airline’s fare restrictions or prevent an airline from changing a flight.

How to compare the same flight correctly
A fair comparison takes only a few minutes, but each step prevents a common pricing or refund mistake.
- Search identical details. Enter the same origin, destination, dates, one-way or return selection, passenger count, passenger ages and cabin on both sites.
- Match the exact flight. Compare airline, flight number, departure date, departure time, stops and fare family. A cheaper result may omit a bag, seat or change entitlement.
- Open the fare rules. Look for cancellation deadline, airline penalty, agency fee, amendment fee, no-show treatment and refund timing. Save a screenshot or download the displayed terms.
- Check baggage separately. Confirm the checked-bag and cabin-bag allowance for every passenger. A lower fare that excludes a required bag is not cheaper for your trip.
- Proceed to payment on both sites. Do not stop at the search card. Include convenience fees, platform charges, taxes, payment surcharges, discounts and optional protection products.
- Compare like-for-like add-ons. Either remove optional protection from both totals or include the product you genuinely want on each side. Do not compare a protected booking on one site with an unprotected booking on the other.
- Recheck the final deadline. Note the cancellation or change cut-off in local time and compare it with your departure. A “24-hour” condition is not the same as a general right to cancel at any time.
- Record the evidence. Keep the payment-page total, fare rules, add-on terms and confirmation email. These records help if the displayed conditions later differ from what support can see.
Cleartrip cancellation charges and rescheduling
Standard cancellation fee
Cleartrip’s current 2026 FAQ states a platform cancellation charge of ₹400 per passenger per sector for domestic cancellations and ₹1,000 per passenger per sector for international cancellations. Those amounts are added to the airline’s cancellation charge; they are not the complete deduction in every booking.
The same FAQ says cancellation is generally available up to three hours before departure. “Generally” matters: the airline fare rule, route, ticket type, no-show status and any special restriction can change the result. If a booking contains several sectors, the per-sector wording means you should check each sector rather than assume one flat fee for the whole itinerary.
How to estimate a Cleartrip refund
Start with the amount paid, then subtract the airline’s permitted penalty, Cleartrip’s applicable platform fee and any non-refundable item. If the fare is partly refundable, calculate each passenger and sector independently. This is an estimate until Cleartrip displays the cancellation confirmation, because the airline’s rule supplies the underlying penalty.

ClearChoice Plus for date changes
ClearChoice Plus is a paid flexibility option, not a blanket waiver of every cost. Under the cited product terms, it allows rescheduling until 12 hours before departure. The stated deadline is 24 hours before departure for Air India and Vistara under those terms.
The terms also state that the customer pays the fare difference and amendment charges above a ₹3,550 threshold. Treat ₹3,550 as the limit described by the product terms, not as a promise that every change will cost ₹3,550 or less: the new flight can have a higher fare, and the applicable airline amendment rule still matters.

If your plans may change inside the deadline, the product may be useful; if the itinerary is firm, its additional price may not produce value.
MakeMyTrip’s optional protection products
Zero Cancellation
MakeMyTrip’s 2026 terms describe Zero Cancellation as an optional product starting at ₹149 per passenger. The starting figure is not a universal price: the actual amount and eligibility can vary by booking.
The cited terms include a requirement to cancel at least 24 hours before departure and state that the convenience fee is non-refundable. Other eligibility conditions apply. Therefore, buying the label alone does not guarantee a full refund for a late cancellation, a restricted fare or a reason excluded by the product terms.

To decide whether it is worth buying, compare three amounts at checkout: the add-on price for every passenger, the refund the airline would provide without it and the maximum additional refund available under the product. Then test your likely cancellation timing against the 24-hour condition. If you may need to cancel on the day of travel, this product’s cited deadline does not solve that risk.
Price Drop Protection
Price Drop Protection is another optional add-on. Under the cited terms, it can provide a fare-difference refund when the applicable fare for the same flight drops after booking and the comparison occurs up to six hours before departure.
The benefit applies only when the add-on was selected and the fare meets the product’s definition of an eligible drop. “Same flight” should be read literally: a different departure time, flight number, route, cabin, passenger mix or fare conditions may not qualify. Check how MakeMyTrip verifies the lower fare, whether the refund is capped, and how a claim is submitted before relying on it.
Price Drop Protection does not make the original ticket freely cancellable. It addresses a qualifying price reduction; the normal airline cancellation and change rules continue to govern if you want to abandon or alter the trip.
Airline changes, cancellations and support
The booking site is an intermediary, while the airline operates the flight. MakeMyTrip’s user agreement expressly says: “Airlines retain the right to reschedule flight times, route, change or cancel flights or itineraries independent of and without prior intimation to MMT.” This language explains why an agency may be unable to prevent a schedule change or approve a remedy that the airline has not authorized.

When the airline changes or cancels a flight, first identify whether the message came from the airline, the booking site or both. Save the original itinerary and the new notice. Then use the support channel attached to the booking and ask what options the airline has authorized: rebooking, credit, refund or a different routing. Do not cancel voluntarily before checking, because a voluntary cancellation can be treated differently from an airline-initiated disruption.
For a self-initiated cancellation or date change, use the agency’s booking-management flow, review the displayed deduction and stop before final confirmation if the amount is unexpected. For an airport-time emergency, contact the airline as well as the agency; the airline controls check-in, boarding and operational handling even when the ticket was issued through an agency.

Choose Cleartrip when transparent published fees matter
- Your itinerary is domestic or international and you want the platform’s cancellation charge stated in advance: ₹400 or ₹1,000 per passenger per sector, respectively, before airline charges.
- You may change dates and the ClearChoice Plus deadline and ₹3,550 threshold fit the fare and airline shown at checkout.
- Cleartrip’s final total is lower after adding the same baggage and payment requirements.
Choose MakeMyTrip when its checkout total or protection fits better
- Its final payment-page amount is lower for the identical flight and fare conditions.
- You want to consider Zero Cancellation, meet its eligibility and can cancel at least 24 hours before departure.
- You value Price Drop Protection, understand the same-flight and six-hour-before-departure conditions and accept the add-on cost.
Use neither result without checking the airline
- The itinerary is highly likely to change but neither site’s protection terms cover your timing or fare.
- The cheaper result omits baggage or has a materially stricter fare rule.
- The connection is tight, the route has frequent operational changes or you need a remedy that only the airline can authorize.
Common mistakes that make a “cheap” fare expensive
- Comparing the search card instead of checkout. Fees and optional products can appear later.
- Ignoring the airline penalty. Cleartrip’s ₹400 or ₹1,000 platform charge is in addition to the airline charge.
- Assuming an add-on is automatic. MakeMyTrip protection applies only when selected and when its conditions are met.
- Waiting past a deadline. ClearChoice Plus uses a 12-hour deadline, with 24 hours for the specified Air India and Vistara terms; Zero Cancellation cites 24 hours; Price Drop Protection cites six hours.
- Confusing a fare drop with a cancellation right. Price Drop Protection concerns a qualifying lower fare, not a free cancellation.
- Changing a disrupted booking as if it were voluntary. Contact support and identify the airline’s authorized remedy first.
- Failing to preserve terms. Screenshots of the fare rule, fee breakdown and add-on page provide a record of what was shown when you paid.
A practical decision rule
Use this order when both sites show the same flight:
- Reject any result that lacks the baggage, connection or fare conditions you need.
- Remove optional products and compare the base checkout totals.
- Apply the cancellation and change rules to your actual risk, including the deadline you can realistically meet.
- Add a protection product only if its qualifying event, timing and refund amount address a risk you genuinely have.
- Pick the lower final total when the rules are otherwise equivalent; pay more only for a specific, usable flexibility benefit.
For example, a traveller with fixed dates should usually prioritize the lower like-for-like total and baggage entitlement. A traveller awaiting a visa or work confirmation should compare the value of ClearChoice Plus with MakeMyTrip’s eligible Zero Cancellation, rather than choosing by the headline fare. Someone worried that a fare may fall should examine Price Drop Protection’s six-hour cut-off and eligibility, not assume every later lower price is refundable.

- Booking reference, ticket number and passenger names exactly as issued.
- The final payment receipt showing base fare, taxes, convenience or platform fees and add-ons.
- Fare rules and the terms for ClearChoice Plus, Zero Cancellation or Price Drop Protection, if purchased.
- Baggage allowance, seat selections and any paid extras.
- Airline and agency contact details, plus every schedule-change or cancellation message.
Keeping these records is especially important when a refund depends on a deadline or when an airline changes the itinerary independently of the booking site.
Bottom line
There is no permanent winner between Cleartrip and MakeMyTrip. Compare the same flight through the payment step, include every fee and baggage requirement, and then choose the cancellation or protection terms that match your risk. Cleartrip’s documented fee schedule and ClearChoice Plus favor travellers who value published platform charges or a defined rescheduling option. MakeMyTrip’s optional Zero Cancellation and Price Drop Protection favor travellers who meet their conditions and are willing to pay for those specific protections. In every case, the airline’s fare rules and operational decisions remain decisive.
