Clear jelly phone cases turn yellow when the material itself discolors, often after exposure to sunlight, heat, sweat, and natural hand oils. Surface grease and smudges can be wiped away, but cleaning cannot reverse a chemical color change in the plastic.
Why does a clear jelly case turn yellow?
“Jelly case” usually means a flexible, transparent case, often made from TPU. Mous Customer Service says ultraviolet light, heat, and natural hand oils can contribute to TPU oxidation. Huawei Support also associates yellowing in transparent TPU or PC cases with sunlight, sweat, and smudges. These are the manufacturers’ explanations; they do not establish a universal yellowing rate or timeline.
Oxidation changes the material’s color rather than simply leaving a yellow layer on its surface. Mous Customer Service describes it as a chemical change that cannot be cleaned off. As a result, a case can remain yellow even after you remove dirt and oils.

Cleaning can help if the discoloration is actually surface residue—such as grease, sweat, or smudges. Huawei recommends gently wiping greasy marks with a clean cloth dampened with water. If the plastic itself has yellowed, that wipe may make the surface cleaner but will not restore the case’s original clarity.

The cited manufacturer guidance does not validate abrasive cleaners, solvents, peroxide, or other chemical treatments as ways to reverse yellowing. Avoid assuming that a stronger cleaner will fix a color change in the material.
How can you slow discoloration?
Huawei advises avoiding direct sunlight and colored oily substances. These steps can reduce exposure to factors associated with discoloration or surface contamination, but they are not a guarantee that a clear case will stay clear indefinitely.

Material and construction also vary by product. Mous describes its own Clarity case as using PCTG co-polyester and a scratch-resistant layer. That is a manufacturer’s description of one product, not proof that PCTG or a coating cannot yellow, nor an independent comparison showing it will outlast other cases.

If discoloration affects normal phone use, Huawei Support recommends buying a replacement through an official Huawei channel. For any phone, choose a case made for your exact model so its openings, buttons, and fit are compatible. If the case still works normally and the appearance does not bother you, yellowing alone does not establish that it has stopped protecting the phone.

Why does my clear case go yellow?

Will washing a yellow phone case make it clear again?
Washing or wiping can remove surface grime, but it cannot reverse oxidation that has changed the plastic’s color.
