There is no documented overall winner. Claude’s Android app actions cover tasks such as drafting messages, creating calendar events, setting alarms and timers, and looking up places. Gemini offers Connected Apps, plus a separate beta screen-automation feature for multi-step tasks in selected apps—but that automation is limited to certain phones, accounts, regions, languages, and apps. Choose by the task you want to do and whether your device is eligible; neither vendor’s documentation establishes which assistant completes tasks more reliably.
First, what do you mean by “Android app tasks”?
The phrase can mean using an assistant on your phone to do things with apps, or using AI tools to help build Android software. Those are different jobs. For phone actions, compare Claude’s Android app actions with Gemini Connected Apps and Gemini screen automation. For development, Gemini has documented workflows in Android Studio and Google AI Studio; those do not show that Gemini is better than Claude at controlling phone apps.
The capabilities and eligibility below reflect vendor documentation checked on October 4, 2026. App support, device lists, and beta availability can change.

Anthropic’s Claude Help Center article, dated August 25, 2026, describes Claude connecting with Android system apps and working with native and third-party messaging, email, calendar, alarms, timers, location services, maps, and Health Connect. Everyday actions and the review handoff
- Messages and email: Claude can draft new content and open the corresponding app with the draft prepared. Anthropic says Claude does not read existing messages or emails.
- Calendar: Claude can check availability and create events. Editing depends on event ownership; the documented feature set does not include Android reminders.
- Alarms and timers: Claude can set them through Android’s relevant functions.
- Location and maps: Claude can use location for nearby suggestions, show locations on a map, and open Google Maps.
These actions may involve an action card or preview, followed by opening the destination app for you to review or complete the action. Anthropic recommends specifying recipients, dates, times, and durations, then checking the destination app before sending or saving. Claude does not have direct access to contacts. Location-tool access is unavailable to Team and Enterprise members according to the help article.
Health Connect is a limited beta
Health Connect access is a separate beta for Pro and Max users in the US. It requires Android 14 or later, a Health Connect setup, and permission to access selected data. Claude can read selected health and fitness information but cannot write or modify Health Connect entries. Anthropic says: “We are not a medical device and cannot provide medical guidance. Always consult a licensed professional.”

What can Gemini do with Android apps?
Gemini has two relevant phone features, and they work differently. Connected Apps uses supported integrations; screen automation interacts with selected apps to carry out multi-step tasks. Google’s feature descriptions do not establish comparative success rates against Claude.
Connected Apps uses supported integrations
Gemini Connected Apps can invoke supported integrations, including Google services and selected third-party apps, for tasks involving productivity, media, communication, and some device controls. Which apps and actions appear varies by device, country, account, and Gemini surface. Check the Connected Apps list and available actions in Gemini’s settings on your own device rather than assuming a particular integration is available.

Screen automation handles selected multi-step tasks
Google describes screen automation as a beta in the Gemini Android mobile app. It can perform selected tasks such as booking a ride or ordering food or groceries; shopping, travel reservations, and ticketing are also listed for some supported Samsung devices. It may work in the background after you close the chat and requires permission for each app. Google’s help page says, “Screen automation in Android apps is a beta feature.” Read Google’s screen automation help page.
When offered, you can review an action plan, monitor progress, and stop the task. Some final steps—such as confirming a ride or order—may still require you. Google says taking control of a task is not currently available on Pixel 10 and Galaxy S26 devices, though you can stop it.

Eligibility is narrower than general Gemini access
At the time the Google help page was checked, its listed devices were Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, Samsung Galaxy S26 series, Galaxy Z Flip 8, and Galaxy Z Fold 8. The page also specified a personal Google Account, age 18 or older, English or Korean, and availability in the US or Korea, with Pixel 10 devices not supported in Korea. The feature was rolling out gradually and worked only with select apps. Check Google’s current compatibility and availability details before relying on this beta.

Permissions, mistakes, and when to intervene
Neither assistant should be treated as an unattended operator for consequential actions. Claude requests relevant Android permissions and its guidance says to review prepared content in the destination app. Gemini screen automation requires permission for each app it interacts with. These descriptions are not enough to conclude that one assistant is more private or safer overall.

Google warns that screen automation may misunderstand a request, tap the wrong item, add an incorrect item or quantity, make an unexpected purchase, or report completion incorrectly. Monitor the task and do not enter sign-in or payment details directly in chat. If the action matters, verify the result in the app before assuming it succeeded.
Gemini also shares some quick voice-action functions with Google Assistant on Android, but Google says some familiar Assistant features are not supported in Gemini. Voice actions are not the same thing as Connected Apps or screen automation.
If you mean building Android apps
Google documents Gemini-assisted development in Android Studio and Google AI Studio. In Android Studio, the project setup flow lets you prompt for a project, review a plan, then approve code generation, building, and attempted self-correction. Google’s Android Studio Gemini documentation describes that workflow.

Google AI Studio’s Android builder generates Kotlin and Jetpack Compose projects, with browser emulator preview, installation on a device, and internal-testing publication options. Its documented limits include client-side-only apps, one activity/module, Compose rather than Java/XML layouts, no NDK/native code, no Wear OS or Android TV, and ZIP-only project download. These development features answer a different question from which assistant works better with apps on an Android phone; the cited documentation does not establish a Claude-versus-Gemini development winner either.

Which should you choose?
- Choose based on a specific supported action. Claude’s documented examples include drafting and calendar actions, alarms, timers, and maps. For Gemini, check whether the needed integration appears under Connected Apps or whether the task is supported by screen automation.
- Check eligibility before planning around automation. Gemini screen automation’s device, account, region, language, age, app, and rollout conditions can rule it out even if Gemini itself is available.
- Decide how much handoff you want. Claude’s documented flow commonly opens a destination app for review. Gemini screen automation may run through multiple steps, but can ask for input or leave a final confirmation to you.
- Verify consequential actions. Review a message before sending, and check orders, bookings, or other important changes in the relevant app.
