Windows 11 meets Anthropic’s published desktop requirement of “Windows: Windows 10 or higher,” but that does not guarantee the app will launch on every PC. Anthropic’s official guidance describes how to install Claude Desktop, but it does not document a general repair sequence for an installed app that will not open. You can use Claude on the web as a temporary alternative, then contact Anthropic Support for help with the desktop issue.
First, confirm Windows 11 is supported
Anthropic lists Windows 10 or higher as the minimum requirement for Claude Desktop, so Windows 11 meets the published requirement. That confirms the operating system is within the stated minimum; it does not establish that a particular Windows 11 configuration is compatible or explain why the app is failing to launch. Anthropic’s installation guidance does not diagnose a general “Claude Desktop won’t open” problem.
Check the official installation path
If you are unsure whether Claude Desktop installed correctly, Anthropic’s documented setup is to download the Windows version, open the downloaded file to complete installation, and launch Claude from the Start menu. These are installation directions, not a confirmed fix for an existing installation that fails to open.

- Select the Windows download and open the downloaded file to complete installation.
- Open the Start menu and launch Claude.
If Claude still does not open, Anthropic’s reviewed documentation does not specify a general Windows launch diagnostic sequence, a log location, or a clean-reinstall procedure. Avoid treating extension-specific registry instructions as a general app-launch fix; they address desktop extensions rather than failure of the base app to start.

Use Claude in a browser while you troubleshoot
Anthropic lists Chat at claude.ai and Claude for Desktop as separate ways to access Claude. If you can sign in and use Chat in your browser, it can provide temporary access while the desktop issue remains unresolved. Browser access does not repair the desktop installation, and it may not meet a need that specifically requires the desktop app.
Contact Anthropic Support about the launch failure
For help with an app that still will not open, Anthropic directs users to sign in, select “Get help,” and use the support messenger. Paid-plan users can request additional assistance from Product Support; free users can consult help documentation and the Fin support bot. Anthropic says it does not offer phone or live chat support.
