Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has a 92 critic Metascore on PlayStation 5 on Metacritic’s listing accessed October 7, 2026. That number summarizes selected critics’ reviews; it is not a score every reviewer gave, a published simple average, or a guarantee that you will enjoy the game. Metacritic’s platform scores differ slightly, so the version matters when you quote the rating.
What does a 92 on Metacritic actually tell you?
Metacritic describes its Metascore as a weighted average of scores assigned to reviews from critics it curates. In its explanation, the site says it selects a diverse group of respected critics, assigns scores to their reviews, and combines them into one number. The exact weights and detailed formula are not disclosed on its methodology page, so the score cannot be reconstructed from the visible review count as an ordinary arithmetic mean.

Why is the critic score different from the user score?
Metacritic presents critic and user ratings separately because they summarize different groups’ responses. On October 7, 2026, its listing showed a user score of 9.5 from 26,784 user ratings. That is not the critic Metascore and should not be treated as the same measure. The score and rating count can shift over time.
How should the score inform a buying decision?
Use 92 as a quick signal that selected critics reviewed the game very positively, then check whether their reasons align with what you want from a game. Metacritic identifies Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as a JRPG and provides reviews by platform. If combat, story, or presentation is especially important to you, read relevant review details rather than relying on the aggregate alone.

What Metacritic’s score cannot tell you
- It cannot predict your personal enjoyment: people value different genres and elements of a game.
- It is not a transparent calculation you can reproduce from the number of reviews; Metacritic’s public explanation does not provide its exact weighting formula.
- It is not identical across platforms, even though the listed values are close.
- It does not replace reading individual reviews that explain what critics liked or disliked.
