From the Giant Tree: Root Depths campsite
- Load the Giant Tree: Root Depths campsite in Chapter 7.
- Face away from the objective marker. The chest is behind you relative to the usual objective-facing orientation.
- Run up the short grassy slope next to the camp.
- Jump onto the raised metal platform that carries the shipping containers.
- Walk around the containers until you see the unlocked gold strongbox beside them.
- Open the box to collect the Amber Breastplate. The nearby campsite gives you a convenient return point for changing equipment or retrying the route.
The important orientation cue is the objective marker. If you run toward it immediately after spawning, you can leave the crate platform behind and assume the armor is farther away than it really is. Turn around first, then look for the short rise and the elevated metal surface. The box is not hidden behind a puzzle prompt, so a locked-looking door or a missing keypad is a sign that you are searching in the wrong part of the yard.
From the earlier Chapter 7 route
If you have not activated the campsite yet, follow the Chapter 7 objective toward the Giant Tree. Use the yellow cable car and watch the platform as the car turns back. Drop onto the raised container platform when it comes within jumping distance, then search beside the shipping containers for the strongbox. Because the exact approach can look different depending on your progression and map position, prioritize the platform and crate yard over a precise turn-by-turn sequence.
The cable car route is useful when you are already moving through the objective path and do not want to backtrack to Root Depths. Wait for the car’s return movement rather than jumping at the first possible moment; the platform is the destination, and landing on the surrounding route will not necessarily put you beside the chest. Once you have the armor, Root Depths remains the most convenient nearby checkpoint for changing gear.

The Amber Breastplate item reference also lists 49 Defense and 90 Acid Resistance. These are in-game values, not laboratory measurements or real-world protection ratings. The six-slot figure matters independently of Defense: a build that relies on several Spirit Stones can retain its slot capacity while gaining acid protection.
Enemy Awareness is not an additional resistance stat. It describes the detection trade-off attached to the armor. Extreme awareness can turn a quiet traversal section into a series of unwanted engagements, so the stat should be considered part of the armor’s effective cost whenever avoiding combat is your objective.
When to equip it for Acid Resistance
Use the Amber Breastplate as a targeted defensive swap when acid damage is the immediate threat. The Giant Tree Zone coverage specifically discusses it in relation to the Corvus fight. Equip it before entering an acid-heavy section or starting that encounter, then reassess once the danger has passed.
Its 90 Acid Resistance makes it stronger for that narrow job than a piece chosen only for raw Defense. The six Spirit Stone Slots also mean you do not have to abandon a slot-intensive build simply because you changed armor. If your current armor has six slots, the Amber Breastplate can preserve the same number of stone positions while changing the resistance profile.
Resistance should match the damage you actually expect, not merely the area name. If the next encounter is primarily Poison, Flame, or Lightning, the relevant resistance on another piece may provide more value even when Amber’s Defense is close. Likewise, 90 Acid Resistance does not make the armor a universal answer to every hazard in the zone; it is a reason to carry it for acid-specific portions of the route.

Manage the Extreme Enemy Awareness penalty
Extreme Enemy Awareness is the trade-off for the acid protection. It is a poor default for quiet travel, scouting, or routes where avoiding fights saves healing items and time. Enemies may notice Emma sooner than they would with a lower-awareness piece.

A practical pattern is to keep the Amber Breastplate in your inventory, equip it immediately before acid damage becomes the problem, and switch back afterward for stealth-oriented movement. This is tactical advice rather than a claim that it is the universally best armor. Your next encounter, current Spirit Stone arrangement, and tolerance for extra fights should determine the swap.
Changing equipment around a campsite also reduces the risk of forgetting the penalty. Use Root Depths as a staging point, set up the armor before the dangerous segment, and change back when the route returns to ordinary exploration. If a fight unexpectedly begins while you are wearing Amber, the extra awareness is a drawback to account for, not evidence that the armor’s acid stat failed.

Silver Cuirass raises Defense to 52, gives up one Spirit Stone Slot, and has Medium rather than Extreme awareness. Choose by the damage type and detection risk you expect next, not by Defense alone.

The slot count makes Amber closer to Dance Attire than Silver Cuirass for builds that treat Spirit Stone capacity as non-negotiable. That is why carrying more than one armor piece is sensible even after obtaining Amber.
A step-by-step equipment decision
- Identify the next unavoidable damage source. If it is acid, Amber’s 90 resistance is directly relevant; if it is Poison, Flame, or Lightning, check whether another piece covers that type better.
- Check whether your current build depends on six Spirit Stone Slots. Amber preserves six slots, while Silver Cuirass has five.
- Decide whether you need to pass enemies quietly. For stealth travel, Dance Attire’s Low awareness is gentler than Amber’s Extreme rating.
- Equip the armor before the hazardous room or boss trigger, rather than after the first damage tick.
- After the acid section or fight, switch to the armor that matches your next route. Keeping Amber as a situational item avoids carrying its awareness penalty through unrelated encounters.
If you are comparing two pieces with similar Defense, give the resistance and awareness columns priority. A single point of Defense does not answer whether you will take acid damage or be detected early, while those two factors can change how an encounter is approached. - Confirm the chapter and zone: The armor belongs to Chapter 7’s Giant Tree Zone in the Drowned Region. Searching another Giant Tree area will not lead to this chest.
- Use the campsite landmark: Start at Giant Tree: Root Depths, turn away from the objective marker, and look for the short grassy slope.
- Look upward: The strongbox is on a raised metal platform, not at ground level beside the camp.
