Administrators should upgrade Cisco License On-Prem—the product formerly called Cisco Smart Software Manager (SSM) On-Prem—to a fixed release. Cisco’s October 7, 2026 advisory covers four vulnerabilities, including an unauthenticated password-reset flaw that could let an attacker take over an administrator account. Cisco says no workaround addresses these flaws. For this advisory, releases earlier than 10-202608 should be upgraded to 10-202608; 10-202609 is listed as not vulnerable. Releases 9-202601 and earlier must migrate to a fixed release.
Is Cisco SSM On-Prem affected?
Yes. Cisco’s October 7, 2026 security advisory applies to Cisco License On-Prem, including releases still referred to by the former name Cisco Smart Software Manager On-Prem. Cisco Smart Licensing Utility is not affected, according to Cisco’s advisory.
The advisory covers four independent vulnerabilities in the web-based management interface and API endpoints. Their possible effects include account takeover, arbitrary file writes, operating-system command execution, access to internal database content, and denial of service. A release may be affected by one flaw without being affected by all four, so check the vulnerability details and fixed-release guidance rather than assuming every installation has the same exposure.

Scores are Cisco’s CVSS base scores for these CVEs, not measurements of how likely a particular installation is to be attacked. Cisco said at publication that it was not aware of public announcements or malicious use of the vulnerabilities; that statement reflects Cisco’s knowledge at that time, not proof that exploitation did not occur later. What version fixes the vulnerabilities?
For the October 7 vulnerability advisory, Cisco lists 10-202608 as the fixed release for Cisco License On-Prem versions earlier than 10-202608. Release 10-202609 is listed as not vulnerable. Releases 9-202601 and earlier must migrate to a fixed release.

Do not confuse this with Cisco’s separate October hardening release
Cisco published a separate security hardening advisory in October 2026. It addresses different issues, grouped by CWE, and must not be treated as the same advisory as the four CVEs above. In that hardening advisory, Cisco identifies 10-202609—not 10-202608—as the first fixed release for 10-202608 and earlier. It also says releases 9-202601 and earlier must migrate. The hardening issues were found in internal testing, and Cisco said they were not known to be actively exploited.

Check the version against both advisories if you manage these installations: one release designation can be sufficient under one advisory yet require an upgrade under the other.

Is there a workaround?
No workaround addresses the four vulnerabilities in the October 7 advisory. Cisco states: “There are no workarounds that address these vulnerabilities.” Administrators should plan the upgrade or migration Cisco specifies for their installed release.

- Identify the product and release. Confirm that the installation is Cisco License On-Prem or an older SSM On-Prem release, and record its version.
- Check both advisories. Match the installed release to the October 7 vulnerability advisory and the separate October 2026 hardening advisory; follow both advisories’ guidance where applicable.
- Confirm entitlement and support. Cisco says upgrades are available for properly procured software with a valid license. Verify that the system has adequate memory and that the resulting hardware and software configuration remains supported.
- Obtain the fixed software and follow Cisco’s upgrade guidance. Cisco’s release notes provide migration and upgrade information. If an entitled customer cannot obtain the fixed software through the point of sale, Cisco says to contact TAC with the product serial number and advisory URL as evidence of entitlement.
The October 7 advisory was first published October 7, 2026, at 16:00 GMT and is marked final, version 1.0. Cisco’s fixed-release tables and exploitation statements can change; consult the live advisories before acting.
