Administrators should patch or isolate Ivanti Cloud Services Application (CSA) appliances immediately. CVE-2024-47908 is an OS command-injection flaw in the CSA administrative web console. On versions before 5.0.5, an authenticated attacker with administrator privileges can use it to execute commands remotely. CISA’s warning is especially urgent because related Ivanti CSA weaknesses have been chained in real intrusions to gain access, steal credentials and install webshells.
What CVE-2024-47908 does
The vulnerability is in the administrative web console of Ivanti Cloud Services Application. NIST’s National Vulnerability Database describes it as: “OS command injection in the admin web console of Ivanti CSA before version 5.0.5 allows a remote authenticated attacker with admin privileges to achieve remote code execution.”
That wording defines both the security boundary and the impact. Exploitation is not described as an unauthenticated, no-login attack: the attacker needs valid authentication and administrator-level privileges. If those conditions are met, however, the attacker can run operating-system commands on the appliance, potentially using it as a foothold into connected management and identity infrastructure.

NVD records a CVSS 3.1 base score of 7.2 (High), while Ivanti’s CNA assessment is 9.1 (Critical). The differing scores reflect different scoring perspectives; neither changes the required response for an exposed, unpatched appliance.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Which versions are affected
Ivanti CSA versions before 5.0.5 are affected. NVD lists 5.0.5 as unaffected. Confirm the exact installed release on every CSA instance and follow Ivanti’s current support guidance before selecting an upgrade package. Do not assume that one appliance’s version represents the entire estate.
| CSA version | CVE-2024-47908 status | Administrator action |
|---|---|---|
| Before 5.0.5 | Affected | Upgrade urgently; isolate first if immediate patching is not possible. |
| 5.0.5 | Listed by NVD as unaffected | Validate the installation and support status, then continue monitoring. |
Why CISA treats this as an emergency
CISA’s Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog is reserved for flaws exploited in the wild and gives federal agencies mandatory remediation deadlines. A related CISA and partner advisory describes Ivanti CSA attack chains that combined several vulnerabilities—CVE-2024-8963, CVE-2024-8190, CVE-2024-9379 and CVE-2024-9380—to obtain initial access, execute code, access credentials and deploy webshells.

Those campaigns show why a successful login-based exploit should not be treated as a minor console bug. An adversary who reaches the management plane may be able to pivot toward systems that trust the appliance, capture secrets or maintain persistence through a webshell. Absence of an alert is not proof that the device was not compromised.

- Inventory every CSA instance. Include production, disaster-recovery, test and recently decommissioned appliances that may still be reachable. Record its installed version, management interfaces and internet exposure.
- Verify the release. Any version before 5.0.5 belongs in the urgent remediation queue. Check Ivanti’s current release and support documentation for the correct upgrade sequence and prerequisites.
- Upgrade to a fixed release. Apply 5.0.5 or a later vendor-supported version, then confirm the reported version after reboot or maintenance completion. Preserve logs and configuration evidence before making changes when your incident-response process requires it.
- Isolate devices that cannot be patched now. Disconnect or restrict the affected appliance in line with CISA guidance and your organization’s incident-response plan. Remove unnecessary internet access and limit management traffic to a controlled administration network, while checking what business services will fail during isolation.
- Hunt for compromise. Review administrative logins, unexpected account or role changes, unusual command execution, new files, outbound connections, persistence mechanisms and webshell indicators. Correlate appliance events with firewall, proxy and endpoint telemetry.
- Watch identity systems. Monitor authentication and identity-management services the appliance could expose, including unusual password resets, token use, new privileged sessions and impossible-travel or abnormal-location events.
- Contain and recover if indicators appear. Rotate credentials that the appliance could access, preserve forensic data, investigate lateral movement and isolate connected systems as needed. Escalate to your incident-response team rather than treating the event as a routine patch job.
Patch now or isolate temporarily?
| Option | Use it when | What it achieves | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Patch now | The supported maintenance path is available and the appliance can remain under controlled change management. | Removes the known vulnerable version and restores normal service more quickly. | A patch does not erase evidence of an earlier compromise; hunting is still required. |
| Temporary isolation | The appliance cannot be upgraded immediately, is exposed to the internet, or compromise is suspected. | Reduces the attacker’s access while responders assess and plan remediation. | Connected services may lose access, and isolation must be maintained until a supported fix is installed. |
Exposure to the internet, an accessible administrator interface, signs of unauthorized activity and the organization’s ability to tolerate downtime should drive the choice. Isolation is a risk-reduction measure, not a substitute for upgrading.

Supported upgrade versus end-of-life exposure
A supported upgrade gives you a vendor-maintained code line and a defined way to validate the fix. An end-of-life appliance may lack security updates, compatible upgrade paths or reliable vendor assistance. Leaving an older version online because it still “works” preserves the command-injection exposure and can complicate forensic conclusions after an incident. If the appliance cannot reach a supported release, treat replacement or a formally approved isolation plan as a security requirement rather than a long-term workaround.
How to decide whether this is a patch event or an incident
- Routine validation: You can account for the appliance, confirm its version, find no suspicious administrative or system activity and complete the upgrade through a controlled change.
- Full incident response: You find unexplained administrator logins, command execution, credential access, webshell-like files, unexpected outbound traffic or evidence that connected systems were accessed. Disconnect the device, preserve logs and involve incident responders before wiping or rebuilding it.
In either case, continue monitoring after the upgrade. A fixed version prevents exploitation of this vulnerability going forward; it cannot determine whether an attacker used it before the change.

What administrators should remember
CVE-2024-47908 is a high-impact command-injection flaw in the Ivanti CSA admin console, affecting versions before 5.0.5. Authentication and administrator privileges are required, but successful exploitation provides remote code execution. CISA’s exploitation warning, combined with documented multi-vulnerability Ivanti attack chains, makes the practical response clear: identify every appliance, patch urgently, isolate any device that must remain unpatched, hunt for webshells and credential access, and monitor identity services for follow-on activity.
