There is no single Chromecast or Firestick specification to compare: each name covers multiple generations. For a fair comparison, match the exact device—such as Chromecast with Google TV or Google TV Streamer (4K) against a named Fire TV Stick—and check the apps, picture formats, and smart-home features available where you live.
Which devices are being compared?
Google’s lineup includes Chromecast with Google TV and Google TV Streamer (4K), while Amazon’s current Fire TV portal lists Fire TV Stick 4K Select and Fire TV Stick 4K Max. These are distinct devices, not interchangeable versions of one specification. Amazon says Vega OS begins with the 4K Select and will be used in future Fire TV Sticks, so do not assume every Fire TV Stick generation has the same operating system. See Google’s device comparison and Amazon’s Fire TV lineup.
How do the named models compare?
| Feature | Chromecast with Google TV | Google TV Streamer (4K) | Fire TV Stick 4K Select | Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Platform and generation | Chromecast with Google TV | Google TV Streamer (4K) | Amazon identifies it as a current 4K stick; Amazon says Vega OS starts with this model | Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen) |
| Storage and memory | 8 GB storage; 2 GB memory, per Google | 32 GB storage; 4 GB memory, per Google | Not stated in the cited Amazon specifications | 16 GB storage; memory not stated in the cited Amazon specifications |
| Wi-Fi | Not stated in the cited Google comparison | Not stated in the cited Google comparison | Not stated in the cited Amazon sources | Wi-Fi 6E, per Amazon |
| Resolution and HDR | Up to 4K; Google lists HDR10+ and Dolby Vision for its devices | Up to 4K; Google lists HDR10+ and Dolby Vision for its devices | 4K model; consult local listing for supported formats | Amazon specifications are model-specific; check the device specification page for supported formats |
| Casting and voice control | Google lists casting | Google lists casting | Alexa access, according to Amazon | Not stated in the cited sources |
| Local price and availability | Varies by market; no consistent current comparison supplied | Varies by market; no consistent current comparison supplied | Check local listing and stock | Check local listing and stock |
Google’s storage and memory figures come from its comparison page; Amazon’s Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen) storage and Wi-Fi figures come from its device specifications. Specifications for one model should not be attributed to the whole product family.

Will your apps and streaming services work?
Check the exact device in your country before buying. Amazon describes access to major content providers, but app catalogs are not guaranteed to be universal or identical across regions. The sources do not establish complete regional app parity for either platform. Search for each service your household actually uses in the relevant local store or device listing.

What picture and sound quality can you expect?
Google lists up to 4K resolution, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision for the Google devices in its comparison. Amazon documents capabilities by Fire TV model, so verify the specific stick rather than applying one Firestick’s supported formats to another. In every case, the display, streaming content, and any connected audio equipment must support the format for it to be used.
A “4K” label alone does not guarantee the same HDR or audio support. If a particular format matters, confirm it for the exact model and for the rest of your setup.

How do casting, remotes, and smart-home features differ?
Google’s comparison explicitly lists casting for Chromecast with Google TV and Google TV Streamer. Amazon says the Fire TV Stick 4K Select provides Alexa access. Those features may make ecosystem fit more important than small hardware differences: consider which phone or voice assistant your household uses and whether you want to cast from mobile devices or control compatible smart-home products by voice. Confirm the specific integrations and remote functions on the model’s local product page; the cited sources do not establish identical remote or smart-home capabilities across every generation.
Which one should you choose?
- Choose a Google device if casting is a priority or you want to compare Google’s listed storage and memory figures across Chromecast with Google TV and Google TV Streamer.
- Consider Fire TV Stick 4K Select if you want Amazon’s current 4K stick with Alexa access; Amazon calls it its “most affordable 4K streaming stick yet,” which is the company’s marketing claim rather than an independently verified price comparison.
- Consider Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen) if its documented Wi-Fi 6E and 16 GB storage match your needs.
- Decide by your required services first: confirm regional app availability and the exact model before comparing price or formats.
There is no reliable universal price winner here: prices and stock depend on country and retailer, and a consistent current price comparison is not established. Compare local listings for the exact models you are considering.
