To connect a Chromecast to a Westinghouse TV, plug it into an open HDMI port, power it with the supplied cable and adapter, select that HDMI input on the TV, then finish setup in the Google Home app. You’ll need a compatible phone or tablet, a Google Account, and Wi-Fi. Exact port locations and remote labels vary by Westinghouse model.
What you need before connecting
- A Westinghouse TV with an available HDMI input.
- Your Chromecast and its supplied power cable and adapter.
- A phone or tablet with the Google Home app.
- A Google Account and the name and password for your Wi-Fi network.
Google recommends using the power components included with the Chromecast. Chromecast Ultra requires its included power supply; it will not work when powered from a TV USB port or a different USB cable. For 5 GHz Wi-Fi setup, the phone or tablet must support 5 GHz.
Connect Chromecast to the TV
- Plug it in: Insert the Chromecast into an open HDMI input on the TV. If the device or the TV’s port layout makes a direct connection awkward, follow the instructions packaged with your Chromecast for its included components.
- Connect power: Connect the Chromecast to its supplied cable and adapter, then plug the adapter into a wall outlet.
- Select the HDMI input: Turn on the TV and use the remote’s Input or Source control to select the HDMI number used by the Chromecast. Your Westinghouse remote may use different wording. Google’s Chromecast connection instructions recommend changing inputs until the Chromecast home screen appears.
Finish setup in Google Home
- Open or install the Google Home app on your phone or tablet.
- Follow the in-app prompts to find and set up the Chromecast. Have your Wi-Fi credentials and Google Account ready.
- After setup, open a Chromecast-enabled app or Chrome, choose the cast option, and select your Chromecast.
Keep the setup phone or tablet close to the router and Chromecast while pairing. If you use a hidden Wi-Fi network, Google Home’s setup instructions allow you to enter the network name and security details manually.
Fix “No signal” or a black screen
- Verify the input: Confirm the TV is set to the same HDMI input where the Chromecast is plugged in.
- Check power and connections: Make sure the Chromecast is powered, reseat its HDMI connection, and use its supplied power components.
- Restart both devices: Power cycle the TV and Chromecast, then select the matching HDMI input again.
- Try another HDMI TV if available: Google suggests this as a troubleshooting check. If the Chromecast works on another TV, that helps narrow the issue to the original TV or input, but does not establish a Westinghouse-specific fault.
Google’s black-screen troubleshooting steps also recommend checking the selected input after restarting.

If Google Home cannot find Chromecast
- Move the phone closer to the router and Chromecast, and confirm the Wi-Fi signal is strong and the network name is visible. Google recommends keeping the phone 15–20 feet (4–6 meters) from the device during discovery troubleshooting.
- If setting up over 5 GHz, confirm the phone or tablet supports 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
- Restart the router and Chromecast, reopen Google Home, and retry setup.
- If the network name is hidden, enter its name and security details manually in the app.
See Google’s Chromecast discovery troubleshooting for the corresponding checks.
Why Chromecast may not switch inputs automatically
HDMI-CEC can let supported devices switch the TV to the Chromecast input when casting, but both the TV’s support and setting are model-dependent. Google also says the Chromecast must be powered from a wall outlet for this behavior. The exact Westinghouse menu label and model compatibility are not established here; check the manual for your specific TV rather than relying on a generic menu path. See Google’s HDMI-CEC guidance.

Resolution and power depend on the Chromecast model
Chromecast models differ in output resolution and power requirements. Google lists Chromecast with Google TV (HD) for up to 1080p HDR at 60 fps, while the 4K model supports up to 4K Ultra HD at up to 60 fps. Actual viewing quality also depends on the TV, content, and connection; a 4K-capable Chromecast does not make a non-4K Westinghouse TV display 4K.
