There is no single “Chromecast location” setting. Choose what you need to change: the address for a Google Home household, your Google Account’s personal addresses, your Google Play country, the region selected during device setup, or the Wi-Fi network. These settings affect different things, so changing one will not automatically change the others.
Which Chromecast location setting should you change?
| Setting | What it controls | Where to change it | Scope and key limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Home home address | Physical location used by devices in that selected home for local place, weather, and time requests | Google Home app: Settings > Home information > Home address | Applies to the selected home. You may need permission to manage home settings. |
| Google Account home/work addresses | Personal address information used to personalize Google products | Google Account personal information settings | Account-level addresses; Google says these are separate from a Google Home address. Google’s explanation |
| Google Play country | Country catalog for Google Play and content in apps | Google Play: Settings > Country and profiles | Eligibility, payment, timing, Family group, and account-content consequences apply. Google Play country rules |
| Device setup region | Region selected while setting up Chromecast with Google TV or Google TV Streamer | Selected during initial setup | Google’s setup guides describe choosing a region during setup; they do not document an in-place menu path for changing the region on a configured device. Chromecast with Google TV setup and Google TV Streamer setup |
| Wi-Fi network | The router/network the streaming device uses to connect | TV settings on Google TV devices; Google Home for older Chromecast models | Google streaming devices remember one Wi-Fi network at a time. Google’s Wi-Fi instructions |
Change the Google Home address for your household
Use this setting if the device is associated with the wrong home location—for example, if local place, weather, or time requests reflect an old address. It changes the address for the selected home, not your Google Play country or personal Google Account addresses. Google’s instructions are for the Google Home app. Change Google home address
- Open the Google Home app and select the home you want to update.
- Tap Settings > Home information > Home address.
- Tap Edit, enter the address, and position the map pin at the correct location.
- Tap Done.
If Home address is missing, check that the correct home is selected and that you are signed in with the account associated with the device. A home member may need Settings permission to manage home-wide information such as the address; admins have broader access. See Google Home people and permissions.
Update your Google Account home or work address
Use the personal information settings in your Google Account if you want to update the home or work address used to personalize Google products. This is not the same as the home address in Google Home: changing one does not substitute for changing the other. Change your Google Account home and work locations

Change your Google Play country
Change the Play country only if you have moved and need the Google Play catalog and app content for the new country. It is a separate setting from the Google Home address and the region chosen during Chromecast setup. Google requires you to be in the new country and have a payment method from that country. The Play profile can take up to 48 hours to update after a change. Google’s current Play country instructions
Check eligibility first
- You must be located in the country you want to add and have a payment method from there.
- Google says you must wait at least 90 days between country changes; additional restrictions may apply.
- You cannot change Play country while you are a member of a Google Family group.
- The country option may not appear if you are not currently in a new country, changed country within the previous 90 days, or belong to a Family group.
Understand what may change
- You may lose access to some books, movies, TV shows, games, and apps.
- Existing subscriptions remain on the old payment profile unless you cancel them.
- Your Google Play balance stays tied to the old country.
- Play Points and your level do not carry over.
Open the country setting
- Open Google Play and tap your profile icon.
- Go to Settings > General > Account and device preferences > Country and profiles. Google’s help page may use the shorter label Settings > Country and profiles.
- Select the country and follow the prompts to add a payment method from that country.
Google may display different labels depending on the app version and account. If the option is unavailable, check the eligibility conditions above rather than changing your Google Home address.

Can you change a Chromecast’s setup region after setup?
Google’s setup instructions show where to select a region during initial setup of Chromecast with Google TV and Google TV Streamer. The official guides cited here do not document a supported in-place setting for changing the region after the device is configured. They also do not establish a factory reset as a proven fix for this specific issue. Avoid assuming that changing the Google Home address or Play country will change the device’s setup region.
Connect Chromecast to a new Wi-Fi network
If “location” means you have moved or replaced your router, update the network connection instead of changing an address or country. Google’s instructions differ by device family. Change the Wi-Fi network of Google streaming devices

Google TV or Google TV Streamer
- On the TV, open Settings.
- Open the network settings, select the old network, and choose the option to forget it.
- Choose the new Wi-Fi network and enter its password.
Older Chromecast, Chromecast Ultra, or Chromecast Audio
Use the Google Home app to set up the device on the new network. These models use Google Home for network changes; Google TV devices use the TV’s settings. Google streaming devices remember one Wi-Fi network at a time, so a new network replaces the one previously saved.
