Player Location Check is a GeoComply location-verification plug-in used by some online lottery, sportsbook, and casino services. If a participating operator requires it, the helper checks whether you are physically in a location where that service is permitted. It is not a built-in Windows gaming feature, and whether you need it depends on the operator and your jurisdiction.
What Player Location Check does on a Windows PC
When you access a participating service, it may ask you to install or run Player Location Check so it can verify your location before allowing a purchase or other activity. Georgia Lottery says computer users need its Player Location Check software for online lottery purchases, while DraftKings describes a GeoComply plug-in for its PC service. Follow the instructions on the official help page for the specific operator you use: Georgia Lottery Player Location Check and DraftKings GeoComply support.
The check is not simply Windows reading GPS coordinates. PartyCasino describes location estimation using an IP address and Wi-Fi triangulation. How it is installed and started
DraftKings says its GeoComply plug-in should download automatically when required, but users may need to install, remove, or restart it while troubleshooting. Use the operator’s own installer and instructions rather than searching for a standalone download from an unrelated site. Installation steps and current versions can change; the cited support page does not establish a universal Windows version number.

For DraftKings PC, the support page gives a specific restart approach: open Task Manager, end the Player Location Check task, then return to DraftKings so it can reopen. That direction is specific to DraftKings; for another operator, use its support instructions rather than assuming the same process applies.
Why location verification can fail
A failure can come from several parts of the setup, and the precise cause is operator- and device-specific. Check these conditions in turn:

- Windows location access: Confirm Location Services are enabled. Microsoft Q&A troubleshooting identifies this as a sensible check, not a guaranteed fix: Microsoft Q&A.
- Browser permission: Check that the browser allows the operator’s website to access location. The site permission is separate from Windows’ location setting.
- Wi-Fi availability: If the operator’s setup relies on wireless signals, make sure Wi-Fi is enabled. An older desktop without wireless capability or nearby signal detection may need Wi-Fi hardware; PartyCasino mentions a USB Wi-Fi adapter as a possible option, not a requirement or assured fix.
- VPN, proxy, or managed network: Temporarily investigate whether a VPN, proxy, or corporate network is interfering. Georgia Lottery warns that corporate proxy settings may need administrator attention.
- Remote session: A remote-desktop session can complicate location verification. Test from the device and network you normally use, if the operator permits it.
- Operator plug-in state: The helper may need to be installed, reopened, or restarted using that operator’s instructions.
- Recent network or ISP change: If the problem began after switching providers or connections, include that timing when contacting support. A Microsoft Q&A user’s report of an ISP-related issue is an individual case, not evidence that provider changes are generally the cause.
A user-reported message in Microsoft Q&A reads: “Your location cannot be determined due to insufficient data. Please verify that your device’s Location Services and Wi-Fi are enabled”. It is an example reported by a user, not a universal or official error message.

- Confirm eligibility and instructions: Verify that the service supports your jurisdiction and open its official Player Location Check help page.
- Check permissions: Enable Windows Location Services and allow the operator site to use location in your browser.
- Check the connection: Enable Wi-Fi where relevant, and investigate VPN, proxy, corporate-network, and remote-session conditions.
- Restart only as directed: For DraftKings PC, use its Task Manager procedure to end the Player Location Check task and return to the site. For other operators, follow their own restart guidance.
- Contact the operator: Provide the exact error, Windows version, browser, operator, recent network or ISP changes, and whether the check behaves differently on another connection. Do not assume that changing providers will solve the issue.
Privacy and version details to verify
The available operator instructions establish that the plug-in is used for location verification, but they do not establish a complete Windows compatibility list, a verified current Windows binary version, or precise data collection and retention practices. For those details, consult the current privacy and installation notices from the operator and vendor before installing. Do not infer specific data handling from the fact that a location check occurs.
