Choose CloudFront when customer domains need a shared AWS distribution template with meaningful per-tenant controls; choose Cloudflare Pages when its Git-based Angular build and preview workflow fits your team and your domain topology fits Pages’ limits. Either can serve a client-rendered Angular app, but neither removes the need to configure and test Angular’s host-page fallback for deep links.

How should you choose?

The key difference is the hosting model. AWS documents a first-class multi-tenant CloudFront design: a shared distribution template supplies common configuration, while each distribution tenant is a viewer-facing entry point that inherits those settings and can have selected tenant-specific controls. Cloudflare Pages is documented as a project-based build and deployment workflow, with Git-triggered deployments, pull-request previews, and custom domains. Its documentation does not describe an equivalent shared distribution-tenant resource.

Decision CloudFront Cloudflare Pages
Tenant configuration Shared multi-tenant distribution configuration, with selected settings that can vary by distribution tenant. Pages projects with custom domains; plan limits apply per account and project.
Angular build workflow Configure an origin for the built assets and arrange the deployment pipeline. The reviewed AWS documentation did not establish a first-party Angular-specific build guide. Official Angular guidance documents CLI setup or Git integration, build settings, automatic deployments, and pull-request previews.
Domain control Configure tenant domains and their DNS routing; standard distributions use an alternate domain name and covering TLS certificate. Apex custom domains require the domain to be a Cloudflare zone with Cloudflare nameservers. A subdomain can use a CNAME after it is added in the Pages dashboard.
Best fit Teams that need shared AWS controls and meaningful per-customer distribution settings. Teams that prefer the documented Pages build workflow and can work within its project and domain ceilings.

This is an architecture and workflow comparison, not a measured speed or cost comparison. No representative traffic profile, pricing analysis, benchmark, or load test establishes that either provider is faster or cheaper for a particular app.

How does CloudFront’s multi-tenant model work?

A multi-tenant distribution is a reusable configuration blueprint, not the hostname that serves customer traffic. It holds shared origin, cache, and security settings. Each distribution tenant inherits that configuration, is associated with a connection group, and acts as the viewer-facing entry point. DNS for a tenant’s domain routes to the CloudFront routing endpoint for its connection group.

AWS documents tenant-level options including origin and origin-path parameters, WAF web ACLs, geographic restrictions, invalidation paths, supplemental TLS certificates, and domain names. That flexibility is useful when customers share an application but need different origins, security policies, geographic access rules, or hostnames. It also makes configuration and quota checks important: AWS lists unsupported capabilities for multi-tenant distributions, including continuous deployment. Origin Access Identity (OAI) is not supported; Origin Access Control (OAC) is used instead. Check AWS’s current feature and quota documentation against the intended tenant design before adopting this model.

Do not assume that domain onboarding is identical for every CloudFront distribution type. In the standard distribution workflow, AWS requires an alternate domain name, a valid certificate covering it, domain-ownership validation, deployment, and DNS routing. The console flow for the certificate references ACM in us-east-1. For a root domain, Route 53 alias records can route to CloudFront because an ordinary CNAME cannot be used at the zone apex. Multi-tenant distribution tenant domains are configured at the tenant level.

How do you deploy an Angular app to Cloudflare Pages?

Cloudflare’s Angular guide documents two starting routes: bootstrap a project with its C3 command, or connect a GitHub or GitLab repository and configure the build command and output directory. Git integration deploys commits automatically and creates preview URLs for pull requests. The documented example uses npm run build with dist/cloudflare; some Angular versions may instead need npx ng build --output-path dist/cloudflare and the output directory dist/cloudflare/browser. Confirm the actual build output for your Angular version rather than copying a directory setting blindly.

  1. Build the Angular app. Use the build command appropriate to the project and verify which directory contains the generated browser assets.
  2. Create the Pages project or connect a repository. In the Pages setup, choose the Angular project workflow or connect a GitHub or GitLab repository. Set the build command and output directory to match the build you verified.
  3. Deploy and inspect a preview. Push a change to trigger a deployment, then use the generated deployment or pull-request preview URL to check rendering, assets, and client-side routes.
  4. Add each customer hostname through the Pages dashboard. Complete the relevant DNS setup only after associating the hostname with the project; the DNS requirements differ for apex domains and subdomains.

Cloudflare’s guide notes that Git integration cannot be added to an existing Pages application. If that workflow is required for an existing app, create a new Pages application for the Git-connected deployment rather than expecting to attach a repository afterward.

What Pages limits matter when serving many customer domains?

Cloudflare’s limits documentation, last updated September 5, 2026, states the following Pages limits. They are documented service ceilings, not a guarantee that they will remain unchanged; check the live limits before implementation.

Pages plan Projects per account Custom domains per project Builds per month Concurrent builds
Free 100 100 500 1
Pro 100 250 5,000 5
Business or Enterprise 100 500 20,000 on Business; Enterprise figure not stated in the cited limits summary 20 on Business; Enterprise figure not stated in the cited limits summary

The project cap is 100 per account across the listed plans. Cloudflare directs users with more than 100 sites toward Workers for Platforms or Workers Static Assets. Decide whether a customer maps to a separate project, a domain on a shared project, or some combination before choosing Pages topology; the per-project custom-domain allowance is not the same as a per-account domain allowance.

  • Builds time out after 20 minutes.
  • Free sites support up to 20,000 files; paid plans support up to 100,000 files with a Wrangler environment setting.
  • A single asset is limited to 25 MiB.

How should you manage customer domains and certificates?

Cloudflare Pages

Add the custom hostname through the Pages dashboard. For an apex domain such as example.com, the domain must be a Cloudflare zone and its nameservers must point to Cloudflare. For a subdomain such as app.example.com, a CNAME can point to the project’s pages.dev hostname. A manually created CNAME without first associating the domain in the Pages dashboard can fail with a 522 error.

CloudFront

For a standard distribution, configure the alternate domain name, attach a valid certificate covering that name, validate ownership through DNS, wait for deployment, and route DNS to the distribution. Route 53 aliases support root-domain routing. For multi-tenant distributions, configure the domain on the distribution tenant and follow the tenant/connection-group routing model rather than assuming the standard distribution flow is identical.

In either design, domain ownership and DNS control are architectural dependencies. Establish whether your team or each customer can make the necessary DNS and nameserver changes before promising a self-service onboarding flow.

Will Angular routing work after refresh or on a copied deep link?

Only if the host returns the Angular app’s index.html for a route that is not a real file. Angular’s deployment guide states: “If the application uses the Angular router, you must configure the server to return the application’s host page (index.html) when asked for a file that it does not have.” Without that fallback, navigation from the app may appear to work while a browser refresh or direct request to a route returns an error.

Cloudflare Pages file-based redirects are authored in a plain-text _redirects file in the static asset directory. The documented guide allows 2,000 static and 100 dynamic redirects per file, but these rules apply to static asset responses; requests handled by Pages Functions bypass them. Do not assume that a generic redirect rule automatically provides the right Angular app-shell fallback in every Pages setup.

  • Open a nested Angular route directly in a new browser tab.
  • Refresh that route and confirm the app loads instead of a not-found response.
  • Copy and reopen a deep-link URL, including one with a query string or fragment if the app uses it.
  • Repeat the checks on the actual custom hostname, not only the provider’s preview hostname.
  • If Pages Functions participate in request handling, verify their routing behavior separately from _redirects rules.

Which platform fits your tenant architecture?

Choose CloudFront when

  • Customers need tenant-specific origin paths, WAF policies, geographic restrictions, certificates, or invalidation paths within a shared distribution model.
  • Your platform team already operates AWS infrastructure and wants to manage tenant entry points through CloudFront’s distribution-tenant and connection-group model.
  • You have checked the current multi-tenant feature exclusions and quotas against the planned configuration.

Choose Cloudflare Pages when

  • A documented Angular build workflow, commit-triggered deployments, and pull-request previews match the team’s release process.
  • Your domain owners can meet the Pages DNS requirements, especially the Cloudflare-zone and nameserver requirement for apex domains.
  • Your number of projects, custom domains per project, build volume, file count, and asset sizes fit the current documented limits.

Whichever option you choose, model tenant identity and hostname resolution deliberately: decide how the app identifies the current customer, where tenant-specific configuration comes from, who provisions and renews domain certificates, and how a tenant is removed. The hosting documentation establishes delivery and domain mechanisms; it does not prescribe your application’s tenant-resolution or data-isolation design.
