The violin listings that match this topic are spelled SOMON, not Soma. Music District in Dubai lists student, intermediate and advanced SOMON models, but its product pages and general buying advice do not establish that they sound better or offer greater value than competing violins. Use the listings as a starting point, then compare fit, setup and sound in person where possible.
First, clarify the name: SOMON, not Soma
The product evidence for violins is for SOMON, a range listed by Music District in Dubai. “Soma” is not confirmed as the violin brand intended by the headline. A separate product called the SOMA Dvina is a different kind of string instrument, not a violin. How much does a violin cost in Dubai?
For the three SOMON models listed above, Music District displayed prices from AED 600 to AED 3,700 in 2026. Its broader Dubai violin page gives price bands across several brands: student outfits from AED 600, intermediate violins AED 1,600–2,800, advanced instruments around AED 3,700 and above, and master-built instruments up to AED 25,000. Those broader figures are retailer-reported and are not all SOMON prices. Check the retailer’s Dubai violin buying page and confirm the final price, included accessories and availability directly before buying.
How to choose between the listed levels
For a new or younger player
The student outfit is the listed entry-level option, with four sizes from 1/4 through 4/4. Choose based on fit rather than age alone: ask a teacher or knowledgeable shop to help check sizing, and avoid buying a violin that is too large simply to postpone an upgrade. Confirm what the outfit includes, since the listing title alone does not establish every included component.

For a developing player
The intermediate model is also listed in four sizes and costs more than the student outfit. A higher tier is not automatically the better choice for a particular player. Compare it directly with the student model and other suitable instruments for comfort, tuning, response and tone.

The advanced SOMON listing is 4/4 only. Players considering it should still audition it against other instruments in the same practical budget and have a trusted specialist assess setup and condition. The tier label is the retailer’s positioning, not proof of professional suitability or superiority.

What to check when trying violins
Violin maker, repairer and player Angela Thompson recommends playing and checking instruments before choosing. Her comparison approach is useful for any of the listed models:
- Confirm fit and setup. Hold the instrument and check that its size feels manageable. Ask how it is set up and whether it tunes and responds comfortably.
- Play sustained notes in different registers. Listen for whether the instrument responds consistently across low and high notes rather than judging it from one striking sound.
- Play the same passage on each finalist. Using the same piece makes it easier to compare tone and response instead of relying on memory or changing musical material.
- Check the outfit and total cost. Ask exactly what is included and whether any adjustments, strings or other essentials affect the price you will pay.
- Get an experienced second opinion. A teacher, violin shop or luthier can help evaluate condition and setup, especially if you are unsure what you are hearing.

Can you try a violin before buying?
Music District says customers can try instruments at its Al Quoz showroom in Dubai and can get help with sizing. This is a service claim for that retailer and location; contact the shop to confirm appointment requirements, which models are available to try and current terms. The retailer also describes regional delivery and school quotations on its own pages, but those services do not replace trying an instrument when you need to judge fit and sound.
What the evidence can—and cannot—tell you
The listings establish model names, sizes and prices as displayed by one Dubai retailer. They do not provide an independent listening test, a standardized comparison against competing violins or evidence that SOMON instruments deliver “beautiful” sound or “great value” for every buyer. Those judgments depend on fit, setup, playing needs and personal preference.
