Star Wars Zero Company has four listed difficulty settings: Story, Normal, Hard, and Expert. Beskar is not listed as a fifth difficulty in EA’s accessibility resource; a preview writer described it as a separate, Ironman-like mode. Squad-member permadeath is another separate option, and StarWars.com says you can adjust difficulty outside combat.
What difficulty settings does Star Wars Zero Company have?
EA’s US English accessibility resource for PC and console lists four player difficulty levels: Story, Normal, Hard, and Expert. It does not publish a full comparison of their mechanical effects, such as changes to enemy damage, accuracy, or recovery. EA’s accessibility resource
| Setting | What the available sources establish |
|---|---|
| Story | One of EA’s four listed difficulty choices; exact mechanical effects are not stated by EA’s resource. |
| Normal | One of EA’s four listed difficulty choices; exact mechanical effects are not stated by EA’s resource. |
| Hard | One of EA’s four listed difficulty choices. An Xbox Wire preview writer described Hard as the third-highest of four and found the preview challenging, but that is not a mechanical comparison or a guarantee of how it will feel for every player. Xbox Wire’s preview |
| Expert | One of EA’s four listed difficulty choices and the highest named in that list; exact mechanical effects are not stated by EA’s resource. |
Is Beskar a difficulty setting?
Beskar should be treated separately from the four listed difficulties. An Xbox Wire preview writer characterized it as an Ironman equivalent with no reloading previous saves. That preview description does not establish every current rule, nor does EA’s four-level list identify Beskar as another difficulty. Xbox Wire’s preview

What is squad-member permadeath?
EA lists squad-member permadeath as an on-or-off option separate from the four difficulty levels; StarWars.com also describes permadeath as optional. - Choose Normal as a reasonable starting point if you have some familiarity with tactical games or want a middle-ground first run.
- Consider Hard or Expert if you already enjoy turn-based tactics and want a more demanding start. The official sources do not quantify the difference between them.
- Decide separately on permadeath based on whether persistent squad losses suit your run; it is not one of the four difficulty names.
Zero Company is a single-player, turn-based tactics game. EA says it includes guided training missions and on-demand tooltips, while StarWars.com describes it as designed for players with varied experience levels. Those onboarding aids can help if you are new to the genre, but they do not reveal the difficulty modifiers. EA accessibility resource · StarWars.com guide
Do mission challenge labels mean the same thing as difficulty?
No. StarWars.com’s guide uses Risky, Dangerous, and Extreme as mission challenge labels. EA separately lists Story, Normal, Hard, and Expert as player difficulty settings. The names belong to different systems and should not be treated as interchangeable.
