You can make a GIF on a Samsung Galaxy from photos, a burst sequence, a video, or—on supported devices—a selected moving area in a video. The quickest route depends on what you already have: use Gallery for existing media, or configure Camera for direct capture. Menu names and feature availability vary by model, software version, and region.
Choose a GIF method for your source material
| What you have | Method | Documented limit or requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Several still photos | Gallery photo selection | No video can be included in the selection, according to Samsung Japan Support. |
| A burst of photos | Gallery burst-to-GIF | Up to 100 burst images in Samsung’s documented workflow. |
| An existing video | Gallery video-to-GIF | Up to six seconds for this conversion method; some very short videos may not convert. |
| A moment you are about to capture | Camera GIF capture | Camera Assistant may be required; Samsung documents up to 30 frames. |
| One moving area in a video | AI Select | On supported devices, Samsung documents a source clip up to 30 seconds. |
These limits apply to their respective features, not to every way of making a GIF. Samsung’s instructions and menus can vary by device and software version.
Make a GIF from still photos in Gallery
- Open Gallery and find the photos you want to animate.
- Touch and hold one photo, then select the other still images to include.
- Tap the create option and choose GIF. Depending on the software version, the route may appear under More and then Create.
- Preview the animation and save it.
Samsung’s current instructions say not to mix video into this photo selection. If you want to animate a video instead, use the video conversion method below. The older Philippines guide documents a similar Gallery route through More and Create: Samsung Philippines Support.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTurn a video into a GIF in Gallery
- Open Gallery and open the video.
- Tap the three-dot More options menu and choose Create GIF.
- Select the segment you want, then adjust the available speed or repeat settings.
- Preview and save the GIF.
Samsung documents a maximum six-second segment for this Gallery conversion route. Its instructions also warn that some very short videos may fail to convert. If Create GIF is missing, the option may not be available on that model or software version.

Convert a burst sequence into a GIF
- In Camera, use Photo mode and swipe down on the shutter button to take a burst. Release to stop.
- Open the burst in Gallery and choose its GIF option.
- Review the animation and save it.
Samsung documents up to 100 images for this burst workflow. If swiping the shutter creates a GIF instead of a burst, check the shutter-swipe setting in Camera and select burst capture.
Capture a GIF directly with Camera
On devices using Samsung’s current documented route, direct capture is configured through Camera Assistant. The assistant may need to be installed first, and the exact menu path can differ from older Galaxy software.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

- Open Camera and go to Camera settings.
- Open Camera Assistant. If it is not installed and your device supports it, install it before continuing.
- Set the shutter gesture to create a GIF, then return to the camera.
- Use the configured shutter gesture to record the animation and save it.
Samsung’s current guide documents a maximum of 30 frames for this direct-capture method. Older instructions may show a different setting inside Camera, so do not assume the same labels appear on every Galaxy phone. See Samsung Japan Support’s GIF instructions.

Other Gallery options and menu differences
Gallery’s editing tools can include additional ways to work with photos and videos, such as custom stickers and GIF-related options. Samsung’s US editing guide describes these tools, but it does not establish that every version of Gallery presents identical controls: Samsung US Support.

Samsung Gulf also documents a Stories-based workflow for making a GIF from up to 50 images, with controls for ratio, speed, direction, and decoration. Because this route is not presented as universal, use it only if those options appear in your Gallery: Samsung Gulf Support.
When GIF creation is missing or fails
- The menu is absent: Check whether your Galaxy model and software support the feature. Similar-looking devices may not have the same options.
- The camera gesture does the wrong thing: Review the shutter-swipe setting and choose the intended capture behavior, such as burst capture rather than GIF creation.
- The video will not convert: Try a different segment or use another method suited to your source. Samsung notes that some very short videos may not convert in Gallery.
- The GIF will not save: Samsung Gulf recommends updating the phone and related apps and freeing storage space.
For model and software variation, Samsung cautions that instructions and screenshots can differ. Its support pages describe examples from recent Galaxy S, Z, and A families but do not establish feature support for every model. See Samsung Gulf Support.
