There is no evidence-based overall winner between Midjourney, ChatGPT Images, and Adobe Firefly: the right choice depends on how you create and edit images, your privacy needs, and the terms that apply to your work. One important naming update: OpenAI has retired its DALL·E GPT in ChatGPT; the current image-creation and editing experience is called ChatGPT Images.
Choose Midjourney if you want a dedicated image-generation environment and can work within its visibility and plan rules. Consider Firefly if Adobe workflow integration and Adobe’s stated commercial-use posture for its own models matter to you. ChatGPT Images is a natural candidate if you want to create or edit images conversationally in ChatGPT. These are workflow-based recommendations—not a ranking of image quality.
What changed about DALL·E?
“DALL·E” no longer names the current image experience in ChatGPT. OpenAI says its official DALL·E GPT in ChatGPT has been retired and directs users to ChatGPT Images for image creation and editing. The Help Center page describes ChatGPT Images as available on all tiers; it lists Images with thinking for Plus, Pro, and Business, with Enterprise and Edu availability described as upcoming on that page. Availability can change, so check the current OpenAI Help Center information before choosing based on a particular tier.
That distinction matters when comparing products: this is a comparison of Midjourney, ChatGPT Images (rather than the retired DALL·E GPT), and Adobe Firefly.

Midjourney: check the version and privacy controls
Midjourney’s Help Center identifies V8.2 as live and available through its website and Discord. Its version guide says V8.1 supports HD images up to 2048 pixels without upscaling, at a higher GPU-time cost than SD generation, and notes that some editing operations can reduce HD results to SD. These are version-specific details, not a guarantee that every current workflow or model version behaves the same way. Consult the version guide and current version information for the features you plan to use.

Privacy deserves special attention. Midjourney says Stealth Mode is available only on Pro and Mega plans. Its Terms of Service, effective May 27, 2026, say content is publicly viewable and remixable by default in public settings. Stealth is described as a best-efforts non-publication setting; assets created in shared or open spaces remain visible to people in those spaces. If you are handling confidential prompts, client references, or unreleased work, read the current Stealth Mode details and Terms of Service before uploading anything.
Midjourney lists Basic, Standard, Pro, and Mega plans. Its plan page gives monthly and annual prices, but pricing and feature entitlements can change and may vary by location or offer. Verify the live plan comparison rather than relying on a remembered price or feature list.

ChatGPT Images: use the current name and verify tier access
For someone who wants to generate or edit images while describing changes in conversation, ChatGPT Images is the relevant OpenAI interface in this comparison. OpenAI’s Help Center describes image creation and edits to uploaded images, but its feature and tier availability can change. The retired DALL·E GPT should not be treated as the current product. Review OpenAI’s current image-feature guidance for the capabilities and access terms that apply to your account.
Adobe Firefly: weigh the Adobe workflow and model-specific terms
Adobe describes Firefly plans with monthly generative credits, standard image functions, premium features, and access to Adobe applications on eligible plans. The exact combination depends on the plan and offer. Check Adobe’s live Firefly plans page for your region before estimating how much image generation a subscription includes.

Adobe says outputs from its Firefly models may be used commercially, and says those models are trained on licensed content and public-domain material where copyright has expired. Adobe also says it does not train Firefly models on subscribers’ personal content and attaches Content Credentials to outputs as a transparency measure. These are Adobe’s statements about its own models—not a universal guarantee of copyright ownership or non-infringement. Adobe advises users to assess whether outputs from partner models are appropriate for their projects, so identify which model generated an image before applying Firefly-model claims to it. Commercial use is not the same as a rights guarantee
Do not treat “commercial use” language as a blanket promise that every output is exclusive, copyrightable, or free of third-party rights issues. Adobe’s statements distinguish its Firefly models from partner models. Midjourney’s terms set their own conditions: they state that a company, or an employee of a company, with more than $1 million in annual revenue must subscribe to Pro or Mega to own assets under Midjourney’s stated terms. That is vendor policy, subject to applicable law and changes to the terms—not independent legal advice. Not from the available official product information. Midjourney’s version history shows that V7 was the default through June 9, 2026, while V8.0 was an early-access alpha from March 17 to July 24, 2026 and is no longer available.
