The Helio G36 is not an across-the-board upgrade over the Helio G35. Both are entry-level, 12 nm chips with eight Cortex-A53 CPU cores and the same listed PowerVR GPU; the G35 has the higher official peak CPU clock, while the G36 lists support for more memory and a 90 Hz display. Benchmark results vary by source and are based on limited, non-matched phone samples, so the phone’s configuration and price matter more than a simple chip ranking.
Helio G36 vs Helio G35: specifications
MediaTek’s official specifications show closely related platforms. Their listed maximums describe what a phone maker may implement, not features guaranteed in every handset.

Which chip is faster?
The G35 has a 100 MHz higher listed maximum CPU frequency: 2.3 GHz versus 2.2 GHz for the G36. Both use eight Cortex-A53 cores, and both list the same GPU model and maximum clock. Those figures do not establish a consistent real-world speed advantage: cooling, memory, firmware, operating system and the particular workload affect a phone’s performance.

MediaTek’s G35 page describes it as enabling mainstream gaming smartphones with HyperEngine technology. That is the manufacturer’s positioning, not a guarantee of smooth performance in every game or handset.
What do the benchmark scores show?
Published comparisons do not give a single, reliable winner. The following are third-party results, not controlled tests of otherwise identical phones.

Which should you choose in a phone?
Do not choose by chipset name alone. Compare the actual handset configurations, since two phones with the same SoC can differ substantially.
- Memory and storage: Check the phone’s installed RAM and storage, not just the SoC’s maximum support. Both platforms list eMMC 5.1 storage.
- Screen: Compare panel quality, resolution and refresh rate. The G36 specification lists support up to 90 Hz, but the phone must include a compatible display.
- Sustained performance: Look for testing of the exact handset if gaming or long workloads matter; cooling and firmware influence results.
- Battery, charging and software: These are phone-level choices and can outweigh small differences in chipset specifications.
- Camera: Sensor hardware and the manufacturer’s image processing matter more than the chipset label by itself.
- Network compatibility: Verify the exact regional variant and supported LTE bands before buying.
- Price and availability: Compare current offers for the exact RAM, storage and regional configuration.
As examples only, 91mobiles lists the POCO C61, Tecno Spark 20C and Infinix Smart 8 Plus among phones using the G36, and the Nokia G20, realme C12, realme C15 and OPPO A77 2022 among G35 phones. The list does not establish current availability or that every regional SKU uses the same configuration.

How old are these chips?
MediaTek announced the Helio G35 and G25 on June 30, 2020, positioning them for mainstream gaming smartphones. Its G36 product page provides specifications and feature positioning but does not state a launch date. MediaTek’s G35 and G25 announcement.
