The iPhone 14 Pro Max is a conventional 6.7-inch-class phone released in 2022; Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, announced in 2026, is a foldable that opens to an 8-inch display. The main choice is therefore not just between specification numbers: it is whether you want a familiar phone or a device that can unfold into a larger workspace. Available prices are from different countries and dates, so they do not establish a fair price difference.
How the two phones differ
These models belong to different product generations and have distinct designs. Apple introduced the iPhone 14 Pro Max in 2022. Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra in August 2026. Neither manufacturer’s published specifications amount to an independent, side-by-side test.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra has the larger display when opened: its inner screen measures 8 inches, compared with the iPhone’s 6.7-inch-class display. Folded, the Samsung’s 6.5-inch cover screen is slightly smaller by the listed diagonal measurements. The iPhone keeps a single conventional slab screen; the Samsung offers a smaller outer screen and a larger inner workspace.

- THE BATTERY YOU’VE BEEN WAITING FOR: It’s the battery you’ve been wanting in a foldable cell phone. Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra packs a powerful ultra-sized⁴ battery in an ultra-slim design. Plus, with Super Fast Charging 2.0⁵, charge up faster than ever before.
Choose based on how you expect to use the device. The Fold8 Ultra’s inner display is the relevant advantage if you want more room for tasks that benefit from a larger screen. If you prefer a traditional phone form factor, the iPhone does not need to be opened to use its main display.
Camera and performance: what the specifications do—and do not—show
Samsung lists higher megapixel counts for the Fold8 Ultra’s main and ultra-wide cameras, while Apple lists a 48MP main camera and additional 2x and 3x telephoto specifications. Megapixels alone do not show which phone takes better photos. The available manufacturer specifications do not establish a controlled camera comparison or benchmark result, so they cannot support a camera or processor-performance winner.

Battery and charging details
Apple lists up to 29 hours of video playback for the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Samsung lists a typical 5,000mAh battery for the Fold8 Ultra. These are different kinds of manufacturer figures; battery capacity and a manufacturer playback estimate are not directly comparable measures of real-world endurance.

What is the price difference?
A reliable price difference cannot be calculated from the available figures because they cover different markets and dates, and there is no same-market current iPhone 14 Pro Max price to compare with Samsung’s figures.
| Model and market | Published price | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone 14 Pro Max, India | INR 139,900 | Apple’s launch price in 2022, not a current quote |
| Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, UK | £1,899 (256GB); £2,069 (512GB); £2,409 (1TB) | Samsung UK’s published 2026 recommended retail prices |
| Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, US | From $2,099.99 | Samsung US page-listed starting price before trade-in; the price may vary with configuration or promotion |
These figures should not be subtracted from one another: the Indian iPhone launch price is from 2022, while the Samsung prices are 2026 UK and US figures. To compare what you would pay, check both models in the same country and at the same time, matching storage where possible and accounting for condition, promotions, and trade-in assumptions.

Is a foldable screen worth the price?
That depends on the value you place on the Fold8 Ultra’s larger inner display and foldable design, as well as the actual local prices available to you. The published figures here do not provide a like-for-like current price gap, and the specifications alone cannot determine whether the larger workspace is worth paying more for. Compare current prices for both phones in your market, then decide whether you will use the unfolded screen enough to justify its cost and a foldable form factor.
