The right outdoor patio TV depends first on how much direct sunlight reaches the screen—not on a generic “best TV” ranking. For a covered, consistently shaded patio, look at full-shade models such as SunBrite Veranda 4 or Furrion Aurora Full-Shade. If sunlight reaches the screen, shortlist only an exact model its manufacturer identifies for that exposure, such as SunBrite Solis for full sun or a Samsung The Terrace model sold in its Full Sun class. These are use-case picks based on manufacturer specifications, not independently tested winners.
Start with the sunlight on the screen
Watch the intended TV location during the brightest part of the day. A patio roof may shade the seating area while leaving the display in direct sun; the screen’s exposure is what matters. Outdoor TV families are designed for different conditions, so do not assume that one outdoor model can handle every placement.
| Patio exposure | Families to consider | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Full shade | SunBrite Veranda 4; Furrion Aurora Full-Shade | Confirm the exact model is specified for full shade and follow its installation guidance. |
| Partial or changing sun | Samsung The Terrace Partial Sun; Furrion Aurora models designated for partial sun | Check the exact model’s sun category and manual. Samsung’s support guidance for the Terrace page describes partial-shade placement and warns against direct sunlight. |
| Sustained direct sun | SunBrite Solis; Samsung The Terrace Full Sun | Choose only a specific model identified for full sun and follow its limits for placement and operation. |
Samsung’s current US product page lists The Terrace Full Sun models in 65-, 75- and 85-inch sizes, and Partial Sun models in 55-, 65-, 75- and 85-inch sizes. The separate Samsung support page says, “The Terrace is designed for placement in a partial shade environment,” and advises, “Avoid installing The Terrace in direct sunlight.” Those pages have different scopes: verify the exact SKU and its manual rather than applying the support article’s guidance indiscriminately to every Terrace variant. 1. SunBrite Veranda 4: for a full-shade patio
SunBrite describes Veranda as a full-shade outdoor TV family. Its Veranda 4 datasheet lists 49-, 55-, 65- and 75-inch models, webOS, IP55 and 600 nits of backlight compensation. That brightness figure is from SunBrite’s datasheet, not an independent measurement or a direct comparison with other brands. The datasheet also gives different VESA mounting patterns by size, so match the mount to the exact screen. SunBrite Veranda 4 datasheet
2. Furrion Aurora Full-Shade: for a shaded installation with several accessory options
Furrion describes Aurora models for full shade, partial sun and full sun; this pick is specifically the Full-Shade version. The Aurora family page reports an IP54 rating and identifies compatible outdoor audio, mounts and covers. Check that an accessory fits the exact TV model and that the TV’s stated exposure category matches the intended location. IP54 and IP55 are manufacturer-published ratings, not a guarantee that a set can be submerged. Furrion Aurora family page · Furrion Aurora Full-Shade product page
3. Samsung The Terrace Partial Sun: for an exact model suited to partial-sun conditions
Samsung’s current US page distinguishes Partial Sun from Full Sun models and lists Partial Sun sizes of 55, 65, 75 and 85 inches. Samsung support identifies the Terrace as IP55 rated, but specifically says not to submerge the TV, remote or power cord. Its support guidance also warns about direct sunlight; reconcile that advice with the product page by checking the manual for the precise model and avoiding assumptions across the family. Samsung says brightness may decrease to protect the panel in high heat or sunlight. Samsung The Terrace product page · Samsung support guidance

4. SunBrite Solis: for a full-sun location
SunBrite describes Solis as designed for full-sun spaces. Its current family page lists 1,500 nits of brightness and IP55 for the series. Treat these as SunBrite’s published specifications, not independently verified measurements or proof that every Solis model has identical limits. Confirm the specific model’s datasheet and instructions. SunBrite’s category page may also carry firmware-update notices for some Veranda 4 and Solis models, so check the current notice for the model you are considering. SunBrite product information
5. Samsung The Terrace Full Sun: for a direct-sun option in the Terrace family
Samsung’s current US product page lists a Full Sun class in 65-, 75- and 85-inch sizes. This is the relevant Terrace class to investigate when direct sunlight reaches the screen; it does not remove the need to follow the exact model’s installation and operating guidance. The support page’s partial-shade and direct-sun warnings should not be silently treated as identical guidance for every Terrace SKU. Verify the model number and applicable manual before purchase. Compare the specifications without treating them as a shared test
Outdoor TV makers do not provide a consistent, independently measured brightness comparison across these families. Use published figures to understand each model on its own terms, not to declare a cross-brand winner.

In a 2021 announcement, Samsung reported that UL’s outdoor visibility verification for The Terrace used criteria including peak brightness above 3,000–4,000 nits, contrast above 1,000:1 and color volume above 80% together under over 10,000 lux. These are figures Samsung reported about the verification criteria, not universal minimum recommendations for buying an outdoor TV or a current, like-for-like comparison of the models above. Match the mount to the exact TV
Before purchasing a wall mount, confirm the TV’s weight and VESA pattern in its current datasheet or manual. SunBrite publishes different VESA patterns for Veranda 4 sizes; do not assume one mount fits the whole line. Check that the mount itself is suitable for the outdoor location and that installation follows the TV maker’s requirements. SunBrite Veranda 4 datasheet
Read the weather rating as a limit, not a promise of waterproofing
Samsung lists IP55 for The Terrace and says it must not be submerged. Furrion lists IP54 for Aurora. Do not interpret either rating as permission to expose a TV to every weather condition or to water immersion; follow the exact model’s installation and care instructions. Rating differences also should not be used as a stand-alone ranking of overall suitability.

Consider audio and covers only after placement is right
Samsung identifies an optional dust cover, SunBrite lists covers, mounts and speakers, and Furrion describes compatible outdoor soundbars, mounts and covers. These accessories can address specific needs, but a cover does not change the TV’s sun category or replace the manufacturer’s installation guidance. Verify compatibility and outdoor suitability for the exact model. Samsung support guidance · SunBrite product information · Furrion Aurora family page
Before you buy
- Classify the screen’s exposure: full shade, partial sun or sustained full sun during the brightest hours.
- Choose a model in that exposure class: use the maker’s label for the exact model rather than relying on the outdoor-TV name alone.
- Read the model-specific manual: confirm sunlight and heat limits, operating conditions, electrical requirements and placement guidance.
- Check fit and installation: compare screen size, weight, VESA pattern and mount suitability for the location.
- Confirm current regional details: check the exact SKU, availability, accessories and warranty on the official regional page and retailer listing.
Specifications and availability can vary by model and region. SunBrite says its TVs are engineered for permanent outdoor installation and notes that indoor TV manuals warn against outdoor use; treat that as manufacturer guidance and consult the selected model’s documentation. A conventional indoor television should not be assumed suitable for permanent outdoor placement merely because the patio is covered. SunBrite product information
