For a VTuber webcam setup, choose based on the resolution and frame rate you need, the USB connection available on your computer, and the requirements of your avatar-tracking software. Elgato Facecam MK.2 is a documented 1080p60 streaming option; Facecam 4K offers a documented 2160p60 mode over USB 3.0, with format-dependent limits. Logitech’s current Brio page lists 4K at 30 fps and 1080p up to 60 fps. None of these specifications proves better tracking accuracy in a particular VTuber application.
What should VTubers look for in a webcam?
A webcam supplies video to a computer or application; it does not create or animate a virtual avatar by itself. The tracking application and its operating-system and camera requirements determine whether a given camera works for your setup. Check those requirements before buying, rather than treating resolution or frame rate as a proxy for tracking quality.
- Resolution and frame rate: Choose a mode your streaming workflow can use. A camera’s maximum listed mode may depend on its connection and video format.
- USB and video format: Confirm the required USB port and whether the mode uses MJPG or uncompressed video. USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 may support different modes.
- Field of view and focus: These affect how much of your space appears in the frame and the camera’s stated focus behavior.
- Compatibility and placement: Check operating-system support, UVC compatibility, software requirements, and how the camera can be mounted.
The manufacturer specifications below document camera capabilities, not independent image-quality tests or avatar-tracking results.

How the camera choices differ for a VTuber setup
Elgato Facecam MK.2: a documented 1080p60 option
Facecam MK.2’s listed uncompressed modes reach 1080p60, and its manufacturer guide identifies OBS as one of the applications that supports the UVC standard. Its 84-degree field of view and fixed-focus range of 30–120 cm are useful specifications to consider when planning camera position. The cited materials do not verify face tracking with any particular VTuber application.

Elgato Facecam 4K: higher listed capture modes, with connection limits
Facecam 4K has the highest listed maximum mode in this comparison: 2160p60 MJPG over USB 3.0. That qualification matters. The manufacturer lists distinct format limits for other 4K and 1440p modes, so do not assume every resolution works at the same frame rate or over every USB connection. The camera’s 90-degree field of view is wider than the MK.2’s listed 84 degrees; whether that framing suits your setup depends on placement.
Logitech Brio: distinguish the current product page from the Stream Edition guide
The current Brio product page specifies 4K at 30 fps and 1080p up to 60 fps. The USB 3.0 requirement for 4K, USB 2.0 limit of 1080p30, and OBS compatibility come from a support document specifically titled for BRIO 4K Stream Edition. Confirm the exact model and its requirements instead of applying that older edition’s support details to every Brio.

Original Elgato Facecam: a discontinued model
The original Facecam is listed as discontinued by Elgato. Its cited specifications include 1080p60 and OBS compatibility, but its discontinued status makes it a legacy or second-hand option rather than an unqualified current recommendation.
How to choose and connect a webcam for VTuber streaming
- Check your tracking software first. Find its supported operating systems, camera requirements, and recommended resolution or frame rate. The cited camera pages do not establish tracking accuracy for a specific avatar application.
- Match the camera mode to your USB port. For Facecam 4K’s listed 2160p60 mode, Elgato specifies MJPG over USB 3.0. For BRIO 4K Stream Edition, Logitech’s support document specifies USB 3.0 for 4K and states that USB 2.0 is limited to 1080p30.
- Check the operating system. For Facecam 4K, Elgato lists Windows 11 or later, macOS 13 or later, and iPadOS 17 or later on an iPad with native USB-C. Check the manufacturer’s current requirements for other cameras and your intended software.
- Plan framing and mounting. Compare the stated field of view with your available camera position. Facecam 4K’s support page lists a 1/4-inch mounting point; verify that any mount you use fits your camera and setup.
- Confirm the application recognizes the camera. MK.2’s guide names OBS and other UVC-supporting applications. For other combinations, check both the camera documentation and the streaming or tracking software’s own compatibility information.
Does a 4K webcam improve VTuber face tracking?
Not on the evidence available in these specifications. A listed 4K mode describes video capture capability; it does not demonstrate that an avatar tracker will interpret expressions or movement more accurately. Tracking results depend on the intended application and its requirements, so verify those before choosing a camera for tracking rather than selecting by resolution alone.
