For DStv, the safest TV-box choice is a Google-certified Android TV streaming device—but DStv does not confirm that every Android TV box works. Before buying, search for the DStv Stream app in the exact device’s official app store for your country. DStv Now is now branded DStv Stream, so look for that current app name.
Which TV boxes and devices does DStv support?
DStv identifies Android TV as a supported screen category, and its device guidance specifically names Google-certified Android TV devices. That is a platform-level indication, not a guarantee for every box or retail model. DStv’s current service pages describe supported categories but do not establish compatibility for a particular Android TV box. DStv’s streaming page and its 2021 device guide are useful starting points; check the app store for your exact model and region as well.
DStv materials also identify selected Apple TV devices, Xbox One, One S and One X consoles, and selected Samsung, LG and Hisense televisions. Availability depends on the exact device and country. The television model-era requirements in DStv’s 2021 guide are dated, so treat them as historical guidance rather than a complete current compatibility list.

How to check a box before you buy
- Confirm that the device runs Google-certified Android TV, rather than assuming any Android-based box qualifies.
- Check the device manufacturer’s official app store for the DStv Stream app, using the country or region where you will use the service.
- Verify availability for the exact model and software version. If the app is not listed, do not assume sideloading will work.
- Check that DStv Stream is available in your country and that your intended package includes the channels or programmes you want.
DStv’s older Android FAQ warns against sideloaded apps and devices that are rooted or have a tampered boot loader. Because that guidance predates the current app name and device list, rely on the official app store and current DStv requirements rather than its old Android-version threshold. DStv’s Android FAQ

What you need to start streaming
- A compatible device with the DStv Stream app available in its official app store.
- A DStv account login and an internet connection. DStv says a satellite dish or decoder is not required for this streaming setup.
- A DStv package available in your country. Device compatibility does not provide a subscription or guarantee that every channel or programme is available in your region. DStv’s Nigeria streaming page illustrates that service and package information is regional.

How to install and link DStv Stream on a TV
- Open the device’s app store and search for “DStv Stream.” DStv’s instructions cover smart TVs; on a TV box, use its official store and follow the device’s installation prompts.
- Install and launch the app, then sign in or choose the option to link the TV.
- Enter the five-digit code displayed on the TV to link it to your DStv account. DStv’s setup guidance was published on 18 August 2025. DStv’s smart-TV setup guide
If the DStv Stream app is missing
- Check that the device’s app-store country matches the country where you use DStv; app listings can differ by region.
- Confirm the box is Google-certified Android TV and check its software updates. A generic Android box is not equivalent to a supported Android TV device.
- Do not treat sideloading as a workaround. DStv’s older Android guidance cautions against it, and compatibility is not established merely because an app can be installed.
- If the app remains unavailable, consider a different device category DStv lists, but verify the exact model and local app availability before switching.
