A SharePoint Online tenant owner is being asked to test a React SharePoint Framework (SPFx) sample against a representative document library and report findings on its pull request. The sample is described as a read-only aid that flags missing or invalid document metadata; its author is still seeking real-tenant validation, not presenting that validation as complete.

What the sample is intended to do

In a DEV Community post accessed October 7, 2026, author Vilius describes a sample intended for the PnP SharePoint Framework webparts repository at samples/react-document-metadata-review/. According to the post, it reviews a bounded document-library or folder view, highlights missing or invalid metadata, and checks required text, choice, and taxonomy fields. It also offers links intended to help users open the source documents and remediate them.

Vilius says, “It deliberately performs no create, update, or delete operations.” That describes the sample as a review aid rather than an editor. The post says its README documents required SharePoint permissions, configuration format, and tenant-validation steps. Those repository and README details are reported by the post; the README and pull request were not independently reviewed.

What has been checked—and what still needs a tenant

Vilius reports 13 deterministic Jest tests, successful SPFx DEBUG and SHIP builds, and successful production .sppkg packaging. These are reported local checks, with no publication year stated for the 13-test figure. They do not demonstrate that the sample behaves correctly against a live SharePoint Online library, the permissions in a particular tenant, or real taxonomy values. No real-tenant result was available in the post material.

The open question is therefore practical: does the sample behave safely and accurately in a tenant with representative library content? The post asks people with tenant access to test it and report back on the pull request. The source is Vilius’s DEV Community post, accessed October 7, 2026; its publication year is not stated.

What tenant testers should verify

Use content and access conditions that resemble the library where the sample would actually be used. Record the sample’s observed behavior for each area rather than treating a successful build as proof of live compatibility.

Metadata findings

  • Check representative documents with required text fields that are populated, blank, and—where applicable—invalid.
  • Repeat with required choice fields, including values that should pass and cases that should be flagged.
  • Test taxonomy fields against the values used in the tenant, and note whether missing or invalid values are identified correctly.
  • Compare the sample’s highlights with the actual field values and library requirements; report false positives and missed issues.

Folder boundaries

  • Run a review on a specific folder and confirm whether results stay within the intended folder scope.
  • Check whether any included or omitted documents appear inconsistent with the selected library or folder view.

Permissions and throttling

  • Test with an account that has the expected access, then—if practical—with one that lacks access to the library or relevant content.
  • Observe whether permission-denied conditions are handled clearly and whether the sample exposes content or links the account cannot access.
  • Note behavior when SharePoint throttles requests, including any visible error, retry, or recovery behavior. The post requests this check but does not specify an expected implementation.

Remediation links

  • Open a selection of links and verify each leads to the intended source document in the expected library or folder.
  • Check that the link destination is apparent and does not lead to a different document than the one flagged.

Keyboard and responsive use

  • Navigate the review interface using a keyboard and check whether the highlighted findings and links can be reached and understood without a mouse.
  • Inspect the layout at narrower viewport widths and note clipped content, difficult-to-use controls, or other responsive problems.

How to make feedback actionable

Report the tenant context at a useful level without sharing confidential document contents or sensitive tenant details. Include the test area, what you expected, what happened, and whether the issue could be reproduced. Screenshots can help show a layout or highlighting problem, but redact names, document content, URLs, and other information that should not be made public.

Keep observations separate from conclusions: for example, say that a particular folder test included documents from outside the selected folder, rather than concluding that all folder scoping is broken. The post specifically requests tenant feedback and screenshots; neither should be treated as already obtained.
