For Apple integration and a 27-inch 5K screen, start with the 2026 Apple Studio Display. For mini-LED HDR, a wider stated color-gamut mix, and 120Hz, compare Studio Display XDR. If you want a third-party 27-inch 5K option, ASUS ProArt PA27JCV and BenQ PD2730S are documented alternatives, each with a different feature set.

These are manufacturer specifications, not independent comparative test results. Your best fit depends on image and refresh requirements, Mac compatibility, connectivity, built-in camera and audio, and the price and availability in your region.

Which display fits your Mac mini or Mac Studio?

BenQ Creative Pro PD2730S Third-party 27-inch 5K with Thunderbolt 4 and KVM 98% P3; Delta E below 2; Thunderbolt 4; built-in KVM

At this resolution and size, all four are 27-inch 5K displays where specified, but shared pixel dimensions do not make them equivalent. Backlight and HDR capability, refresh rate, color claims, connections, and integrated features differ. The available specifications do not establish which screen looks best in independent testing.

What the two Apple displays offer

Apple Studio Display

Apple specifies a 27-inch 5120 × 2880 panel at 218 pixels per inch, with 600-nit brightness, a 60Hz refresh rate, P3, True Tone, and support for one billion colors. Its integrated features include a 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View, a six-speaker sound system, and a three-mic array. Thunderbolt 5 and USB-C ports provide connectivity, and the display can supply up to 96W of host charging. It can be configured with nano-texture glass and different stand or VESA options. Apple lists the Studio Display specifications and configurations.

Apple Studio Display XDR

The XDR keeps the 27-inch 5120 × 2880, 218-ppi format but adds a mini-LED backlight with 2,304 dimming zones. Apple specifies up to 1,000 nits for SDR and 2,000 nits peak for HDR, plus 120Hz Adaptive Sync and P3 and Adobe RGB coverage. It also has the camera and audio suite and Thunderbolt 5 connectivity. Apple’s specifications page has the detailed display and connectivity information.

Apple Studio Display: Standard Glass, Tilt-Adjustable Stand
  • A SIGHT TO BE BOLD — An immersive 27-inch 5K Retina display, 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View, advanced mics and speakers, and Thunderbolt 5 ports.* Studio Display is the perfect partner for Mac.
  • WITH FLYING COLORS — 14.7 million pixels, 600 nits of brightness, support for 1 billion colors, and P3 wide color make everything spring to life with spectacular detail.
  • ADVANCED CAMERA AND AUDIO — The 12MP Center Stage camera helps you look sharp in any light and keeps you in frame during video calls. Desk View lets you share your workspace. And a studio-quality three-mic array ensures you come through clearly.
  • SIX-SPEAKER SOUND WITH SPATIAL AUDIO — Four force-cancelling woofers produce bold bass, and two high-performance tweeters deliver accurate mids and crisp highs. And Spatial Audio creates a sophisticated, cinematic soundstage in supported music, video, and games.
  • SUPERPOWER YOUR STUDIO — Two Thunderbolt 5 ports let you connect high-speed accessories, daisy-chain up to four displays, and even fast-charge Mac laptops. And two USB-C ports are perfect for USB peripherals or charging your iPhone.

Its higher refresh capability has a Mac-generation caveat: Apple lists Mac mini (2020 and later) and Mac Studio (2022 and later), among other compatible Macs, with macOS Tahoe 26.3.1 or later. Macs with M1, M1 Pro, M1 Max, M1 Ultra, M2, and M3 support the XDR only up to 60Hz; newer listed generations can access higher refresh capability subject to system support. Check your exact Mac and software against Apple’s compatibility details before buying, especially if 120Hz is a requirement.

BenQ Creative Pro PD2730S

BenQ describes the PD2730S as a 27-inch 5K display with 98% P3, Delta E below 2, Thunderbolt 4, daisy chaining with Apple silicon Pro, Max, and Ultra devices, and a built-in KVM. The color and compatibility details are manufacturer claims. If you want a KVM for switching peripherals between computers or daisy chaining, confirm the exact workflow and host support in BenQ’s PD2730S product information.

What to compare before choosing

  • Resolution and size: Each of the four options is described as a 27-inch 5K display (the ASUS and BenQ specifications explicitly state 5120 × 2880; Apple states 5120 × 2880 at 218 ppi). If sharpness and pixel density are central to your preference, compare these specific specifications rather than assuming every 4K screen is unsuitable.
  • Brightness, HDR, and refresh: The Studio Display is specified at 600 nits and 60Hz. The XDR’s mini-LED, dimming zones, HDR brightness, and 120Hz Adaptive Sync distinguish it on paper. The available third-party facts do not state comparable brightness, HDR, or refresh figures, so check their complete official specifications if these decide your purchase.
  • Color: Apple specifies P3 on both displays and Adobe RGB on XDR. ASUS states 99% DCI-P3 and Delta E below 2; BenQ states 98% P3 and Delta E below 2. Gamut labels and manufacturer accuracy claims are not a substitute for independent, like-for-like testing.
  • Mac compatibility and charging: Apple provides specific Mac-generation and macOS requirements, including the XDR refresh limitation. ASUS states USB-C charging up to 96W and Mac-tested compatibility. BenQ specifies Thunderbolt 4 and daisy chaining with Apple silicon Pro, Max, and Ultra devices. Verify that a display’s host connection, charging capacity, and supported features match your exact Mac and peripherals.
  • Built-in equipment and mounting: Apple specifies a camera, speakers, microphones, and stand or VESA configuration options. The supplied third-party specifications do not establish a directly comparable integrated camera and audio package. Check the selected configuration and mounting needs before purchase.
