No—Raspberry Pi is not dead. Raspberry Pi Holdings plc is still reporting results, selling current products, and says its Raspberry Pi 5 will remain in production until at least January 2036. That is strong evidence the platform is active, though it is not a guarantee of the company’s future or of local stock and pricing.
Is Raspberry Pi still an active company?
Yes. Raspberry Pi’s investor relations page reports $323.2 million in FY25 revenue and more than 73 million units sold. Those are company-reported figures and useful indicators of scale, not a forecast. The page does not give a precise as-of date for the cumulative unit total. Raspberry Pi investor relations
There is also recent formal reporting activity: the company’s results index lists Raspberry Pi Holdings plc interim results 2026, dated 24 September 2026, as well as its 2025 annual report and final results. Raspberry Pi results centre
Is Raspberry Pi still supported?
Raspberry Pi’s product page says the Raspberry Pi 5 will remain in production until at least January 2036. This is a stated production horizon for that board, not a promise that every accessory, software release, or Raspberry Pi product will be supported for the same period.

The Pi 5 supports Raspberry Pi OS Trixie and legacy Bookworm. Raspberry Pi says versions older than Bookworm do not work on the board. If you are moving an existing project to a Pi 5, check its operating-system and accessory requirements rather than assuming compatibility from an older model. Raspberry Pi 5 product page
Is Raspberry Pi 5 worth buying?
It can be a good fit if your project benefits from Pi 5’s newer processing capability, connectivity, or storage options. Raspberry Pi describes it as a general-purpose computer for consumer, business, and industrial uses, and says it is faster than Pi 4. That does not mean every project needs the newest board or the most memory: choose for the work you actually plan to do.

Pi 5 has a 64-bit quad-core 2.4GHz Arm Cortex-A76 CPU, VideoCore VII graphics, dual 4Kp60 HDMI output, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, microSD, USB 3 and USB 2, Gigabit Ethernet, two MIPI camera/display transceivers, and PCIe 2.0 x1. The product page lists memory configurations from 1GB through 16GB. Focus on the features relevant to your workload: RAM for the applications you run, I/O for the devices you connect, and storage for your project’s data.

- Power: Raspberry Pi recommends a high-quality 5V/5A USB-C power supply. The company warns that an under-powered supply may cause problems.
- Cooling: Active cooling can help under heavy load; it may not be necessary for every use.
- Case: A Pi 4 case will not fit the Pi 5, so include a compatible case if you need one.
- Storage expansion: PCIe-based M.2 storage needs a separate M.2 HAT or another adapter.
- Existing accessories: Check compatibility before reusing a case or add-on from an earlier board.
These requirements affect the total cost and setup. A board with more memory or capacity than your project needs can add expense without a useful benefit.

What do the latest published price changes mean?
In an announcement dated 1 October 2026, Raspberry Pi said it raised the 2GB Pi 5 price by $12.50 to $77.50 and the 2GB Pi 4 price to $67.50. The company said other products, including the 1GB Pi 4 and Pi 5, were unchanged in that round. These are company-stated prices from that announcement, not a guarantee of what a retailer charges, what taxes apply, or what is available in your country. Raspberry Pi News
As Raspberry Pi CEO Eben Upton put it in that announcement: “Whether you’re an individual customer or a business, price increases obviously impact your plans: we encourage you to make sure the Raspberry Pi products you buy are a good match for your requirements, and that you’re not paying for headroom you don’t need.”

For a purchase decision, compare the specific memory variant and current local price, then account for power, cooling, a compatible case, and any storage adapter your setup requires. The October announcement concerns only the stated 2GB Pi 4 and Pi 5 changes; it should not be applied to all variants or resellers.

How to decide between Pi 5 and an earlier Raspberry Pi
- Workload: Choose Pi 5 when its added speed or connectivity matters to the project. A simpler project may not need the newest board.
- Memory: Select enough RAM for the operating system and applications you intend to run; the largest configuration is not automatically the best value.
- Storage and I/O: Consider whether microSD is sufficient or if you need PCIe-based M.2 storage, which adds an adapter.
- Power and cooling: Include the recommended supply and assess whether your expected workload calls for active cooling.
- Total cost and compatibility: Add the cost of required accessories and account for the fact that a Pi 4 case does not fit Pi 5.
Raspberry Pi is active, and Pi 5 has a long stated production horizon. Whether the Pi 5 is the right purchase is a separate question: match its capabilities and complete setup cost to the project rather than buying on the assumption that newer always means necessary.
