The CHiQ CBM230NS3 is a 231-litre bottom-mount fridge designed for kitchens where width matters: it is 540 mm wide and has a 161 L refrigerator and 70 L freezer. Its frost-free operation and reversible door are useful on paper, but public performance evidence is limited: CHOICE lists a 2026 test while keeping its scores behind member access. Treat this as a specification-led assessment, not a test-backed recommendation.
What the CHiQ CBM230NS3 offers
CHiQ Australia describes the CBM230NS3 as a VCM-silver bottom-mount refrigerator. Its stated net capacity is 231 L overall, divided into 161 L of refrigerator space and 70 L in the freezer. That split is more informative than the headline capacity alone: the freezer is about 30% of the total, so buyers who freeze a large share of their food should check whether 70 L is enough for their routine.
The specification sheet lists three glass shelves, one door basket, a crisper with a glass cover, a wine rack and three freezer drawers. The listed net weight is 55 kg. These figures describe the published configuration; they do not establish how much of the space will be convenient for any particular household’s containers or groceries.

The stated dimensions are 540 mm wide × 1700 mm high × 576 mm deep. CHiQ’s specification sheet calls for 5 cm of ventilation space on both sides and behind the fridge. Allow for those gaps in addition to the appliance dimensions, and check the floor, doorway and route into the kitchen for a 55 kg appliance.

Cabinet fit is only part of the question. Measure how far the door can open in its intended position and whether drawers can be pulled out or removed without hitting a wall, island or adjacent cabinet. A retailer Q&A notes that the supplied dimensions do not settle built-in clearance or door-opening requirements; use the installation manual for the unit you are buying.
Both CHiQ and the specification sheet identify the door as reversible. However, the product page says the supplied door opens from the left, while the specification sheet for the base CBM230NS configuration describes a right-opening door. Since the documents conflict on the factory hinge direction, verify the exact unit and current manual rather than assuming which side it opens from out of the box.

Features and what they do—and do not—prove
CHiQ lists total frost-free operation, multi-air-flow, fast-cool mode, electronic temperature controls, interior LED lighting and a humidity-control crisper. The maker says multi-air-flow distributes chilled air across shelves and that the crisper adjustment is intended for fruit or leafy vegetables. Those descriptions explain the intended features, not independently measured cooling uniformity or food-preservation results.

Energy use and warranty
CHOICE’s 2026 listing and Appliances Online’s specification display show a four-star energy rating and 237 kWh/year. Treat the annual figure as listed label information, not a guaranteed household bill: actual cost depends on the electricity tariff, conditions and use. The accessible CHiQ product-page material shows the star rating but not annual kWh.

CHiQ’s specification sheet states three years of parts and labour coverage for the fridge, plus seven additional years of compressor parts coverage. The additional compressor cover is parts-only; it is not a ten-year full-appliance parts-and-labour warranty. Check the warranty booklet that applies to the purchase date.
What independent testing and customer reviews establish
CHOICE has a model-specific listing showing the CBM230NS3 was tested in 2026. Its public page shows basic details including energy information, claimed capacity and country of origin (China), but member access is required for the expert rating, recommendation and detailed results. Those hidden fields include temperature stability, evenness and range, food freshness, response to ambient temperature, heat-load processing, running cost, noise, reliability and satisfaction. No conclusion about those scores can be drawn from the public listing.

Appliances Online displayed 4.5 stars from 53 reviews on the page accessed for this review. Its generated summary says buyers praise compact fit, quietness and freezer space, while some raise concerns about cooling being less cold than expected or plastic trays and drawers feeling less robust. These are retailer-hosted customer impressions, not a representative durability study or controlled test of noise or cooling.
How to judge it against compact alternatives
Before choosing this fridge, compare like with like rather than relying on a headline litre figure or star rating. Focus on:

- Installation: width, height and depth plus side and rear ventilation, door swing, and access to removable drawers.
- Measured performance: independently published temperature stability, uniformity, recovery, noise and food-preservation results, where available.
- Energy: comparable annual kWh figures and your local electricity price; a star rating alone does not calculate running cost.
- Warranty: distinguish full-appliance parts-and-labour coverage from limited compressor-parts extensions.
- Delivered cost and service: compare current local price, delivery, installation, removal and service access. Retail prices change.
CHOICE showed a price of A$1,099 on its page accessed on 7 October 2026; that is a time-sensitive listing, not a current-price guarantee. Check the retailer’s delivered price before comparing it with other compact models.
Verdict: a plausible space-saving option, not a proven performer
The CBM230NS3’s clearest case is physical: a 540 mm-wide footprint, 231 L capacity, bottom freezer, reversible door and frost-free listing may suit a kitchen that cannot accommodate a wider refrigerator. The 70 L freezer and required ventilation gaps need to work for your storage needs and layout. Because CHOICE’s 2026 performance scores are not publicly visible, the available evidence supports judging fit and specifications—not a confident claim that this model cools, preserves food or runs more quietly than alternatives.
