You do not need to turn off every child’s phone camera in every situation. If your child has no good reason to use it, restricting camera access is a reasonable choice—but the right setting depends on the phone, the apps, and your child’s needs. Device controls and app permissions can limit access; they are not a complete safety plan or a guarantee that a child cannot change them.
Decide what you want to restrict
Start with the specific concern rather than treating the camera as an all-or-nothing risk. You might want to block camera use across the phone, stop one app from accessing it, or make sure the lens is covered when it is not in use. Those choices involve different controls.
- Block camera access broadly: Check whether the phone offers a system or family restriction that prevents camera use. The available controls vary by platform and device.
- Limit particular apps: Review each app’s permissions and deny camera access where it is unnecessary. Apps may request access to other information too, such as photos, the microphone, contacts, or location.
- Block the lens physically: A cover may obstruct the lens while it is in place. It does not change software permissions or disable the camera.
Consider your child’s age, legitimate uses—such as schoolwork or communicating with family—and the family rules you want to set. Avoid assuming that a single setting will address every privacy concern.
How do I turn off my child’s phone camera?
On an iPhone or iPad
Apple’s current family instructions direct caregivers to Settings > Family > [child’s name] > Content & Privacy Restrictions. Apple describes Privacy Restrictions as a way to manage app access to information or device features, with controls that can include choosing whether a category is allowed. The exact options can depend on the child’s age, region, software version, and account configuration. Follow Apple’s current instructions for the device and family setup you use: Set up parental controls to manage your child’s iPhone or iPad.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
On an Android phone
Android provides camera and microphone privacy controls and indicators, but the menus and available features can differ by phone maker, operating-system version, and region. Open the phone’s Privacy settings and look for camera access controls; if the option is not clear, consult the manufacturer’s current guide for that model. Do not assume every Android phone has the same system-wide camera switch. See Android privacy settings and permissions.
How do I stop apps from using my child’s camera?
Review permissions app by app instead of relying only on a general phone setting. In the device’s settings, find the app’s permissions or privacy controls, then allow camera access only where it is needed. Menu labels and paths vary, so use the phone’s current settings search or its manufacturer’s guidance if you cannot locate them.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Check other permissions at the same time. A camera decision does not determine whether an app can access photos, a microphone, contacts, or location. The FTC recommends checking privacy and security settings for each app and considering the controls built into the device as well as any third-party parental controls. Its guidance is at Kids and Cell Phones.
Make camera rules part of a family conversation
Explain what the settings do and agree on when camera use is appropriate, what should not be photographed or shared, and how your child can ask for help. UNICEF advises parents to review app permissions, use parental controls, and help children learn to navigate online responsibly. Its checklist says, “Keep webcams covered when not in use.” That advice specifically mentions webcams; a phone lens cover is an optional physical blocker, not a substitute for reviewing phone or app access. Read UNICEF’s Online privacy checklist for parents.

For services likely to be used by children, the UK Children’s Code principles summarized by GOV.UK include high-privacy defaults, data minimisation, and age-appropriate information. These are expectations for service design; they do not mean a child’s phone camera must always be off. See Child online safety: Data protection and privacy.
