Chewy’s company overview says it offers approximately 190,000 product and service offerings and provides 24/7 assistance. Those are Chewy’s own descriptions, not an independent ranking of service quality or a guarantee that every product is in stock. The practical advantage is that the retailer’s systems, help content, and support channels are built around pet purchases.
Choose Amazon when the exact listing wins on delivered value or convenience
Amazon can make more sense when you already use its marketplace, need an item bundled with another household order, or find a lower total for the exact product after shipping, discounts, and tax. It can also be preferable when the listing shows a delivery date that fits an urgent need.
The important qualification is that “Amazon” is not one uniform seller. A product may be sold by Amazon, sold by an independent merchant, shipped by Amazon, or shipped directly by the merchant. Those arrangements affect authenticity checks, communication, delivery handling, and returns. A 30-pound bag and a 28-pound bag may look similar in a search result while producing a materially different cost per pound. A multipack can also conceal a higher unit price if the quantities are not identical.
Use a like-for-like price comparison
- Match the manufacturer and exact formulation. Confirm flavor, life stage, dietary claim, prescription status, scent, color, model, and other variations.
- Match the package size and count. Record weight, volume, number of cans, rolls, filters, doses, or other units.
- Check the seller and fulfillment method. On Amazon, note “sold by” and “ships from.” On either store, avoid treating a third-party or marketplace offer as interchangeable with another seller’s listing.
- Apply only discounts you can actually use. Include one-time coupons, member pricing, promotional codes, and subscription discounts only if the checkout page confirms them.
- Add every delivery charge and tax shown for your address. Free-shipping thresholds and eligibility can differ by item and destination.
- Compare the final checkout total. The amount due, not the search-result price, is the useful number for this order.
Calculate unit cost when packages differ
When the package sizes are not identical, divide the delivered total by the usable unit. For food, that might be dollars per pound or per ounce; for litter, dollars per pound; for treats, dollars per treat; and for medication, dollars per dose. Keep the calculation tied to the same formulation and concentration. A lower unit price is not a saving if the product is a different recipe or strength.

For recurring purchases, calculate both the first order and the later scheduled order. A promotion may apply once, while a subscription price can change. Record the date you checked the amount because prices and eligibility are volatile.

You need litter or another bulky supply quickly
Compare the delivered price for the same weight and the address-specific arrival date. Include shipping charges and check whether either retailer will split the order. A subscription is useful only if its next shipment arrives before your current supply is exhausted.
You found a cheaper Amazon listing from an unfamiliar seller
