For a small, vanilla Valheim group, our top pick is Godlike.Host, a game-server host with Valheim servers, a Pterodactyl-based panel and backups up to three times a day (see the current plans). Among the other providers in the October 7, 2026 price comparison, Apex Hosting’s 2GB entry plan is one of the lowest ongoing prices, provided its player limit fits your group. A ten-player crossplay group needs a different tier, and modded worlds need more memory and explicit mod support. The cheapest useful choice is therefore the least expensive plan that matches your player count, RAM, platform mix, mods, backups and region—not the smallest introductory number.
What “cheapest but still good” means
Hosting prices are not directly comparable unless the plans serve the same group. A five-player vanilla plan may cost less than a ten-player modded plan because it includes fewer slots, less RAM or no mod tooling. Treat these as separate costs when you compare offers:
- Recurring price: the amount charged after any first-month promotion.
- Commitment: six- or twelve-month prepayment can lower an effective monthly rate but reduces flexibility.
- Currency and tax: euro and US-dollar prices will not produce the same checkout total for every buyer.
- Capacity: advertised slots and RAM must suit the number of simultaneous players and the size of your world.
- Features: crossplay, mod installation, backups, recovery, location and support can matter more than a small price difference.
The prices below are dated product-page snapshots checked October 7, 2026 by Valheim Companion. Promotions, taxes, currency conversion, renewal terms and availability can change, so confirm the final checkout and renewal price before paying. Provider descriptions are claims about their plans, not independent performance tests.
Current price and feature comparison
| Provider and plan | Advertised price | Capacity or term | Notable inclusions and limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Godlike.Host | See the current plans | Valheim servers; upgrade or downgrade from the panel | Up to three free backups a day with restore, a built-in mod installer and updater, SFTP/FTP access, free DDoS protection, 10 locations and 24/7/365 support by live chat or ticket. |
| DatHost | €1 first month; then €14.90/month on monthly billing | 10 slots | Automatic updates and backups, world management, mods, crossplay and 49 locations. The comparison reports lower effective renewal rates on six- and twelve-month prepayment. |
| Supercraft | $7.99/month; $12.99/month; $24.99/month | 5, 10 and 30 players respectively | Crossplay and daily backups on all tiers. The five-player tier is vanilla-only; mod support begins at the ten-player tier. |
| Shockbyte | $9.99/month; $12.99/month; $16.99/month | 4 players/3GB; 7 players/4GB; 10 players/6GB or more | Crossplay, BepInEx and ValheimPlus support, backups and updates are reported for the listed plans. |
| Nitrado | $16.19 for 30 days regular US listing; $9.72 promotional checkout with code DEEPNORTH40 | 10 slots | Crossplay, configurable locations, daily backups and DDoS protection. The discount is conditional and should not be treated as the normal renewal rate. |
| GPORTAL | $15.59 for 30 days; $6.24 for 3 days | 10 slots on the 30-day comparison plan | Crossplay, mod-installation tools and 50GB of backup space are reported. Repeated three-day renewals are poor value for a persistent world. |
| Apex Hosting | $5.99 first month; $7.99 recurring | 2GB tier | Higher-RAM tiers cost more. Compare the recurring tier that fits your group rather than the promotional entry price. |
| WinterNode | From $11.94/month; recommended 8GB configuration $15.92/month | 6GB and 8GB configurations | Crossplay, mod support, twice-daily backups and fair-use terms are reported. |
Best value by the type of Valheim group
One to four players running an unmodded world
Start with a 2GB plan whose stated player range covers everyone who will connect. Apex Hosting lists a 2GB entry tier that can be economical for a small vanilla group, but the recurring amount, location and backup terms should decide, and Godlike.Host is worth comparing on its panel, backups and ten locations. Do not buy a 2GB plan for a larger or heavily modded community simply because its headline price is low.
Five to seven players
A plan advertised for five to seven players gives you more headroom than a four-player entry tier. Supercraft’s five-player tier remains vanilla-only. Shockbyte lists seven players with four gigabytes. Choose according to whether you need mods, not just the slot count: the cheapest vanilla option may become a false economy if you later have to move the world.
Around ten players on crossplay
For a ten-player group using PC, Xbox or another supported platform mix, verify crossplay in the exact plan before ordering. Supercraft’s ten-player tier, DatHost’s ten-slot offering, Nitrado’s ten-slot product, GPORTAL’s ten-slot comparison plan and the ten-player tier listed by Shockbyte all advertise crossplay in the cited material. Compare location, backup recovery and panel usability after confirming the slot and RAM combination.
Modded servers
Mods increase the importance of memory, installation workflow and recovery. Supercraft does not advertise mod support on its five-player tier; it begins at ten players. Shockbyte reports BepInEx and ValheimPlus support, while DatHost, WinterNode and GPORTAL advertise mod capability or tools. Godlike.Host provides a built-in mod installer and updater and SFTP/FTP access for uploading files, though no host can promise that every mod pack will run well. Check the mod loader, upload method, restart controls and rollback process before committing.

A short event rather than a persistent world
GPORTAL’s listed three-day price can fit a tournament or weekend gathering. It becomes expensive when renewed repeatedly, so calculate the total number of event periods you expect. A monthly plan is generally the better value for a world that remains online between sessions.
How much RAM and how many slots do you really need?
Slot counts describe the number of permitted players, not a performance guarantee. RAM requirements vary with world complexity, exploration, structures, automation and mods. Use the provider’s advertised ranges as a starting point, then leave headroom for peak activity.
- 1–4 players, vanilla: a 2GB tier is the entry point cited by Apex Hosting.
- 5–7 players: compare plans around 4–6GB, such as the capacity listed by Shockbyte.
- Up to 10 players or modded play: inspect 6GB, 8GB or 12GB options and confirm the mod loader. WinterNode reports 8GB as its recommended configuration.
If the panel shows memory pressure, long save times or repeated restarts, reducing the slot limit will not add RAM. Move to a larger tier or remove resource-heavy mods, and make a verified backup before changing the world.

Features that justify paying a little more
Crossplay and location
Crossplay is only useful when every member of the group can join through the required platform path. Confirm it is enabled for your selected plan, then choose a server region geographically close to most players. DatHost reports 49 locations, Godlike.Host lists 10, and Nitrado configurable locations; more locations do not automatically mean lower latency for your particular group.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteMods and administration
Look for one-click installers or documented support for the loader your mod pack uses. Also check whether the panel lets you upload configuration files, change launch parameters, restart safely and view logs. A nominally cheaper plan that requires manual recovery for every update can cost more time than the monthly difference.
Backups and recovery
Daily backups are reported for Supercraft and Nitrado; DatHost reports automatic backups; WinterNode reports twice-daily backups; Godlike.Host advertises up to three free backups a day with restore; GPORTAL advertises 50GB of backup space. Ask three specific questions before purchase: how often are snapshots taken, how long are they retained, and can you restore a chosen snapshot yourself? Download an occasional copy if the panel permits it, because a backup that cannot be restored is not protection.

Support and security
Nitrado advertises DDoS protection, and Godlike.Host advertises free DDoS protection and 24/7/365 support. These are useful assurances, but they do not establish response time or uptime for every incident. Read the fair-use language on plans such as WinterNode’s and check whether automated updates require a restart at a time your group can tolerate.
A practical buying procedure
- Count simultaneous players: use the highest likely peak, not the average evening.
- Decide vanilla or modded: list the loader and major mods before comparing plans.
- Set a location requirement: choose the region nearest the majority of players and confirm it is available on the exact tier.
- Filter by capacity: discard plans whose advertised slots or RAM do not cover your use case.
- Calculate the real first-year cost: include the introductory month, every renewal, prepaid term, taxes and currency conversion.
- Inspect backups: verify frequency, retention and restoration controls rather than accepting “backups” as a single undifferentiated feature.
- Check migration and cancellation: find out whether you can download the world files and what happens when a rental expires.
- Test before inviting everyone: connect from each required platform, install the intended mods, create a restore point and monitor the first busy session.
Common ways a cheap plan disappoints
The first-month price becomes the assumed monthly price
Apex Hosting’s $5.99 figure is introductory and becomes $7.99 recurring; DatHost’s €1 offer becomes €14.90 on monthly billing. Nitrado’s $9.72 checkout price requires a promotional code, while its regular US listing is $16.19 for 30 days. Put the renewal figure in your budget.

The plan is too small for the real group
A four-player or 2GB tier can appear ideal until a fifth player joins or a mod pack is added. Buying the smallest tier and upgrading immediately is rarely cheaper than selecting the correct capacity at the start.

Short rentals are used for long-term worlds
A three-day rental can be sensible for a single event, but repeated renewals quickly exceed a monthly subscription. Multiply the short-term price by the number of periods you expect to use.
Backups exist but cannot save the world
Confirm that backups include the world and configuration files, that retention covers the time between checks, and that restoration does not require opening a support ticket during an outage. Keep a local copy after major milestones.
Managed hosting versus self-hosting
Self-hosting removes the provider invoice but transfers responsibility to the person running the server. That operator must handle Valheim updates, port forwarding, firewall rules, backups, crashes, electricity and uptime. A managed host charges monthly for provider infrastructure and a control panel, often making it the better fit for a group that wants to play rather than maintain a machine. Compare the monthly fee with the value of your time and the reliability your group expects; they are different operating models, not interchangeable prices.

Our top pick for Valheim is Godlike.Host: a game panel with a task scheduler and sub-users, up to three free backups a day with restore, a built-in mod installer and prorated upgrades or downgrades (see the current plans). For a tiny vanilla group, also compare the recurring 2GB entry plans and stay within their published player limits. For ten-player crossplay, select a ten-slot plan with a suitable RAM tier and a nearby location, then compare backup recovery and support. For mods, pay for the memory and loader support your pack requires. Use promotional prices only to calculate the first billing period, and use renewal pricing to decide what is genuinely cheapest over time.
