A V Rising server is worth paying for when your group wants an always-on world without leaving one player’s computer running. The relevant comparison is not simply the smallest number on a pricing page. A usable host must provide enough simultaneous slots, a data centre near the players, the correct platform support, recoverable backups, protection against common network attacks and a control panel that exposes the settings your clan actually needs.

Which plan size should you buy?
10 slots: a small private group
Choose 10 slots when no more than roughly ten people need to connect at the same time. This is the relevant entry-level comparison above. Buying extra slots “just in case” raises the recurring bill without proving that the world will run better.
20 slots: regular clan nights
A 20-slot plan is sensible when your community regularly approaches the 10-player limit or you expect guests. GTX lists the 20-slot Coven plan at £15.95 per month; Nitrado lists 20 slots for £17.69 per 30 days. The lower per-slot arithmetic does not guarantee lower CPU, memory or tick performance, so use the provider’s actual resource description and upgrade options as the deciding evidence.
40 slots and above: events or a growing community
GTX’s guide describes plans from 10 to 100 slots and says RAM can be upgraded. The V Rising server software is described by GTX as technically supporting up to 128 connected players, but that ceiling is not a host-plan promise or a performance guarantee. Large communities should ask how resources scale, rather than treating the slot number as a specification of hardware.

The 10-slot Crypt listing is the lowest observed entry price in this UK comparison at £10.85 per month, billed monthly. The page advertises daily automatic backups, DDoS protection, 24/7 support, browser-based settings and mod management, up to 10GB of included RAM and up to 100GB of NVMe storage. GTX lists 19 locations, although some may carry a surcharge.
GTX describes support for BepInEx mods from Thunderstore and settings for PvE or PvP play, castles, clans and loot. Those features make it the more suitable candidate when your group specifically requires mods, but verify that the exact mod versions and current game build are compatible before ordering.
GTX also reports that a 20-slot demonstration server used about 2.4GB of RAM after ten minutes with nobody online. That is one provider-reported demo observation, not an independent benchmark, a minimum requirement or a prediction for a busy, heavily configured or modded world.

Nitrado’s UK listing shows 10 slots for £11.59 for a 30-day subscription and 20 slots for £17.69 for 30 days. It lists 24/7 support, automated backups, DDoS protection and configurable server settings. The page offers multiple selectable locations, including options beyond Europe.

Platform and mod checks before you subscribe
- PC: Both listings describe PC availability, but confirm the product category and current game version at checkout.
- PS5: Nitrado states that PC and PS5 are supported. GTX’s cited PC page directs PS5 customers to a separate PS5 product page and says the slots, prices and locations are the same; select that platform-specific product rather than assuming the PC SKU will work.
- Mods: GTX describes BepInEx and Thunderstore mod management. Nitrado’s FAQ currently says modding is not supported. Confirm compatibility for every required mod, not merely the provider’s general statement.
- Configuration: Check whether the panel exposes the PvE/PvP, castle, clan and loot settings your group wants, and whether changes require a restart.
Location, latency and capacity are part of the price
Choose the data centre closest to the players who will connect most often. GTX advertises 19 locations and warns that some locations can cost extra; Nitrado’s UK page offers several selectable locations. A provider’s displayed ping or location label is not a substitute for measuring the route from your players’ actual networks. If the group is split across countries, choose the location that gives the largest number of regular players an acceptable latency rather than optimising for one person.
Ask the provider whether changing location later is possible, whether it incurs a fee and whether a move preserves the world save, configuration and backups. A cheaper distant server can become the expensive choice if everyone experiences lag or you must migrate shortly after launch.
Backups, DDoS protection and support: what the claims do and do not prove
Both providers list daily backups and DDoS protection, and both advertise 24/7 support. These are vendor-described features. The published pages do not establish how many backup generations are retained, how quickly a restore completes, whether backups are stored separately, what attacks are mitigated or how fast a support agent responds.

Before subscribing, look for these operational details:
- How to create an on-demand backup before a major configuration or mod change.
- How many daily restore points are retained and whether older points are automatically deleted.
- Whether you can download a copy of the world save for an independent fallback.
- Whether DDoS protection is included in the quoted price or tied to a particular location.
- Which support channels are covered 24/7 and what incidents are excluded from that promise.
A practical checkout checklist
- Count simultaneous players. Use the maximum number likely to be online together, not the total number of members in a chat group.
- Select the correct platform. Choose the PC or PS5 product explicitly, and confirm cross-play assumptions with the provider rather than inferring them from the game title.
- Select a nearby location. Compare the available locations and note any surcharge before reaching payment.
- Confirm the billing term. GTX’s figures above are monthly listings; Nitrado’s are 30-day subscriptions. Check renewal timing, taxes and the final recurring amount.
- Verify required features. Read the current panel description for backups, DDoS protection, settings, mod support and resource limits.
- Read cancellation and refund terms. GTX’s guide mentions 24-hour refund information and no-contract claims, but verify the current wording and conditions at checkout.
- Save your access details and backup instructions. Record the server address, panel login recovery method and the steps for downloading or restoring a world.
Managed hosting versus running the server yourself
Managed hosting trades a recurring fee for a provider-operated machine, control panel, network connection and support process. It is usually the shortest route when nobody in the group wants to maintain an always-on computer, monitor ports or handle updates.
Self-hosting can be appropriate when you already have a reliable machine and network, need full control, or want to manage files and settings directly. Stunlock Studios’ official hosting guide states: “The V Rising Dedicated Server application is needed to host a dedicated server.” The same guide documents the V Rising Dedicated Server application as the self-hosted route and says players can rent and manage a server through PocketHost.
The guide does not establish that self-hosting is cheaper. Electricity, hardware wear, upload capacity, router configuration, backups, operating-system maintenance and downtime all affect the real cost. If the host computer is switched off, sleeps, loses its connection or receives an update at the wrong time, the world is unavailable. Treat self-hosting as a control-and-maintenance decision, not an automatic money-saving trick.
Common failure modes and how to avoid them
The checkout total is higher than the advertised price
Taxes, location surcharges, currency conversion, optional backups or longer billing terms can change the amount. Recheck the selected region, term and renewal line immediately before payment.

The server is full during clan events
Capacity is simultaneous connections. Move to the next slot tier only when the current limit is genuinely restricting play, and confirm whether an upgrade preserves the existing world.
A required mod does not load
Confirm that the host supports the mod framework, that every player uses compatible files and that the game build matches the mod release. Nitrado currently states that V Rising modding is unsupported; do not pay for that plan expecting a modded installation.
Players experience lag despite an available slot
Check the selected location and have affected players measure latency from their own networks. Slot availability does not promise a particular route, ping or server tick rate.

Use the provider’s documented restore process and keep a downloadable copy when available. Daily backup advertising does not tell you how many restore points exist or whether a particular recent change can be recovered.
