There is no defensible single winner for the cheapest good Sons of the Forest host. The lowest displayed figure is $5.99 per month for a one-player tier from Indifferent Broccoli, but the same page also shows a $12.99 monthly callout beside its two-day trial. Gravel Host displays $14.99 per month for a plan advertised with 10 GB of RAM, Nitrado shows €10.49 for 30 days and eight slots in a search result, and YorkHost advertises plans from €6.99 per month. Those offers are not equivalent: slots, memory, region, billing term, promotional status and renewal pricing differ.
Use the figures below as advertised examples accessed in 2026, not guaranteed checkout prices. The practical way to find value is to price the same player capacity for the same billing period, then check location, backups, configuration access and support. No independent latency, uptime or late-game save testing establishes that one of these services performs better than the others.

What “cheapest but still good” means
A server is only cheap in a useful sense when it can host your group reliably at the total recurring price you will actually pay. A headline “from” rate may describe one player, a short introductory term or a promotional checkout. An eight-player server with adequate resources can cost more than a one- or two-player tier, while a low price in a distant region can make the game unpleasant for everyone.
For Sons of the Forest, compare six items before choosing:
#1 Best Overall
- Capacity: player slots and whether the plan is limited to a specific number of users.
- Resources: how RAM is allocated and whether the provider states any CPU or storage limits.
- Location: the data-center region relative to the players who will connect.
- Control: panel access, configuration-file editing, logs and save-file management.
- Protection and recovery: stated backup frequency, restore options and network protection.
- Terms: renewal price, billing interval, trial conditions, cancellation and support availability.
Provider statements about performance, DDoS protection, reliability and backups are sales claims. Treat them as features to verify in the plan and terms, not as independently measured results.

| Provider | Displayed price | Capacity or resource detail | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Indifferent Broccoli | $5.99/month for one player; $6.99 for two; $9.99 for four; $12.99 for six; $15.99 for eight | Player-count tiers; the page describes RAM as uncapped | The page also places a $12.99/month callout beside a two-day trial. Confirm which price applies at checkout and at renewal. |
| Gravel Host | $14.99/month | Tape plan with 10 GB RAM; page says up to four players | Daily-backup, DDoS-protection and multi-region statements are provider claims. Check the selected region and cancellation terms. |
| Nitrado | €10.49 for 30 days in a displayed search result | Eight slots | Search-result prices and locations can vary. Verify the current offer, taxes, renewal and exact data center in checkout. |
| YorkHost | From €6.99/month | Plans described as supporting up to eight players, with RAM-oriented tiers | Check the exact tier, region, renewal basis and what managed Windows service includes. |
These are not like-for-like quotations. The $5.99 Indifferent Broccoli figure is a one-player entry tier, while Nitrado’s displayed €10.49 example is for eight slots and 30 days. A lower number does not prove lower cost for your actual group.
How many players and how much RAM do you need?
Player slots
Hosting documentation reviewed for this comparison describes an eight-player maximum for the dedicated server. That is a provider description of the current game build, not an official Endnight hardware specification. If your group has two or four regular players, buying an eight-slot plan may add cost without adding useful capacity. If eight people may join, leave room for the full slot count and check whether the advertised price is for exactly eight simultaneous users.

RAM
No official server-side RAM specification was established. The 10 GB figure on Gravel Host and the RAM-oriented tiers described by YorkHost are provider guidance, not a laboratory requirement. Save complexity, world activity and concurrent players can affect resource use, so avoid treating any single number as a guaranteed minimum.
Ask the host how memory is measured, whether it is dedicated or shared, and what happens when a server reaches its limit. After deployment, use the panel’s resource graph or logs, if provided, to look for sustained memory pressure before upgrading. A plan that advertises “uncapped” RAM still needs clear information about the underlying machine and fair-use limits.
Location and latency matter more than a tiny price difference
Choose a region close to most players, not simply the cheapest region listed. A group spread across countries may need to select the location that gives the majority acceptable latency, or agree that one player will experience a longer route. Ask whether the region can be changed later and whether moving regions requires a new order or risks the save.
No controlled latency comparison was conducted among these providers. Do not infer that a multi-region claim means a particular location will be fast for your connection. If a host offers a trial, use it to connect from each regular player’s network and check for disconnects, delayed interactions and world-save behavior before committing to a longer term.

Management features that determine whether a low price is worthwhile
Panel and file access
A managed host should expose the settings you need without requiring you to administer an entire operating system. Check for configuration editing, console access, log downloads, save-file upload and download, scheduled restarts and permission controls. The provider pages reviewed describe dashboards or configuration access, but the exact controls vary by plan.
Backups and restores
Gravel Host and Nitrado advertise daily backups. Confirm how many restore points are retained, whether backups are stored separately from the game machine, and whether restoring costs extra or causes downtime. “Daily” does not tell you whether the backup runs before or after your latest session, so ask about the schedule. Download a copy of an important save when the panel permits it; a provider backup is not the same as an independent copy you control.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteSupport and network protection
Nitrado describes support and DDoS protection, while Gravel Host advertises both as well. Verify the support channel, operating hours and expected response target rather than assuming 24-hour staffed help. DDoS protection can reduce certain network attacks, but it does not prevent crashes, corrupted saves or poor routing.
Can you host a dedicated server yourself?
Provider documentation describes installing the dedicated-server application through SteamCMD. Indifferent Broccoli’s setup information mentions Windows and a Linux route using Wine; YorkHost says its official dedicated server runs on Windows. These statements are not a substitute for current official game documentation, and no official Endnight system sheet was identified here.

- Install the server application with SteamCMD or the currently documented method.
- Set the world and administrator configuration, then secure credentials.
- Allow the required network traffic on the host and router, if remote players must connect.
- Test joining from outside the host’s local network.
- Automate or schedule save copies and test that a restore actually works.
If the server computer sleeps, loses power or shares a congested home connection, players may lose access. A managed service shifts those operational tasks to a provider, which is often worth more than the smallest monthly saving for a group that plays regularly.
Does Sons of the Forest support mods on a hosted server?
YorkHost says official server-side mod support is unavailable. Recheck that statement against the current game version before buying, because support can change with updates. Do not pay extra for a “mod-ready” plan unless the host identifies a supported method and explains where the files run. Client-side tweaks and unofficial workarounds are different from officially supported server-side mods and may create compatibility or support problems.
A repeatable way to choose the lowest sensible price
- Count the real players. Use the largest number likely to connect at once, not the number playing on launch night.
- Normalize the term. Compare 30 days with 30 days, or a full billing year with a full year. Record introductory and renewal prices separately.
- Normalize the capacity. Compare the same slot count and note whether RAM is specified, capped, shared or described as uncapped.
- Choose the region. Select the location that gives most players a reasonable route and ask about changing it later.
- Read recovery terms. Confirm backup retention, manual restore, save downloads and the process after cancellation.
- Check management access. Make sure the panel provides the configuration and logs you expect, and identify who can restart the server.
- Test before extending. During any trial or first billing period, have every regular player connect, load a save and perform a normal session.
- Record renewal and cancellation dates. A cheap first month is not cheap if the recurring charge is unexpected or cancellation requires advance notice.
Which advertised tier fits common group sizes?
One or two players
The Indifferent Broccoli page displays $5.99 for one player and $6.99 for two. Those are the lowest visible entry figures in this comparison, but the page’s conflicting $12.99 callout makes checkout verification essential. A small group should also check whether the tier has enough memory and whether upgrading later preserves the world.

About four players
Indifferent Broccoli displays $9.99 for four players, while Gravel Host displays $14.99 for a plan described as supporting up to four and including 10 GB RAM. The prices represent different resource descriptions, so compare the final recurring totals and the panel, backup and region terms rather than choosing solely by the lower number.

Up to eight players
Indifferent Broccoli displays $15.99 for eight players, Nitrado shows €10.49 for 30 days and eight slots in a search result, and YorkHost advertises plans from €6.99 with descriptions of up to eight players. Currency conversion, taxes, regions, RAM tiers and renewal terms prevent a direct ranking. Request or verify an eight-slot checkout for each candidate before deciding.
Common purchase mistakes and fixes
- Mistake: selecting the “from” price. Fix: open the exact slot tier and note the recurring amount after any promotion.
- Mistake: treating a trial price as normal pricing. Fix: identify the trial length, charge date and automatic renewal behavior.
- Mistake: assuming a bigger RAM number guarantees smoother play. Fix: ask how resources are allocated and monitor actual usage during a busy session.
- Mistake: ignoring the region. Fix: select a location near the majority of players and test from each regular connection.
- Mistake: assuming “daily backups” guarantees recovery. Fix: verify retention and perform a restore test before the world becomes valuable.
- Mistake: buying for mods that are not supported. Fix: confirm current server-side mod support and the provider’s policy in writing.
- Mistake: comparing unlike currencies and terms. Fix: convert currencies only for your decision, while retaining the original checkout figures and billing periods.
Bottom line
The cheapest displayed entry is Indifferent Broccoli’s $5.99 one-player tier, but its inconsistent page callouts mean it cannot be named the universal cheapest good host. Gravel Host’s $14.99 four-player-oriented plan, Nitrado’s displayed €10.49 eight-slot 30-day offer and YorkHost’s €6.99 starting price may be better or worse value depending on your group, region, resources and renewal terms. Choose only after comparing the same slot count and billing period at checkout, then verify backups, controls, support and current server/mod compatibility.
