PebbleHost Budget is the clearest low-price starting point for a modded Minecraft server. Its official pricing advertises plans from $1 per GB, while an iTechGuides comparison updated in September 2026 listed 8 GB at $8. That entry price is not a promise that every modpack will run well: PebbleHost itself recommends 8 GB or more for basic modpacks, and the right choice depends on your exact pack, loader, player count, CPU allocation, location and renewal bill.
What “cheap but still good” means for a modded server
The cheapest advertised RAM price is only one part of the decision. Modded Minecraft loads more files, performs more world-generation work and often runs more background systems than an unmodded server. A host can look inexpensive while becoming frustrating if the plan lacks the required loader, has weak CPU allocation, places the server far from your players or makes recovery difficult.

Use these tests before paying:
- Exact compatibility: confirm the pack’s Minecraft version and whether it uses Forge, Fabric, Quilt or another loader supported by the plan.
- Resources at the needed tier: compare the total monthly RAM allocation and the processor tier attached to that plan, not just the headline price per gigabyte.
- Location: choose a data-center region close to most players and test latency after deployment when possible.
- Operations: check backups, file and console access, support, modpack installation and how easily you can upgrade or migrate.
- Real recurring cost: verify renewal pricing, billing period, taxes and currency at checkout rather than relying on a promotional or comparison-page figure.
Advertised hardware and support figures below are provider claims unless specifically identified as a dated third-party listing. No independent performance benchmark or hands-on server trial establishes that one host will deliver lower tick times for every pack.
Current low-cost price context
The figures in this table are useful for narrowing a shortlist, not for treating a comparison page as a live quote. The iTechGuides figures were updated in September 2026; prices, currencies, taxes and included features can change.

| Shockbyte | From $15.99 for 8 GB | Dated iTechGuides comparison | Official plan details and live pricing were not independently confirmed in the material available for this guide |
The $1/GB figure is a starting advertisement, not a recommendation to buy a 1 GB server for a modpack. A practical modded setup should be sized from the pack’s documented requirements and a margin for your players, world and add-ons.
PebbleHost Budget: the strongest low-price candidate
PebbleHost’s Budget service is the most direct match for the query because it combines a published low starting price with stated modded-server support. The provider says Budget supports Forge, Fabric and Quilt and offers modpack installation. Its own guidance recommends 8 GB or more for basic modpacks.

When Budget makes sense
- Your chosen pack is documented as compatible with Forge, Fabric or Quilt.
- Your group can start at the memory level the pack requires, rather than selecting the lowest advertised tier.
- You are comfortable checking performance and upgrading if new chunks, automation or additional players increase load.
- A Budget region is geographically close enough to your players.
When to look beyond Budget
Move to a higher tier or another provider if the pack’s requirements exceed the plan, if your server needs more CPU headroom, or if you require stronger included backup tooling. Do not infer that a higher price automatically means better gameplay; compare the processor allocation, storage, support and recovery features attached to the exact plan.
How much RAM does a modded Minecraft server need?
There is no universal number because “modded” covers small loader-based additions through very large curated packs. The only explicit baseline in the available provider guidance is PebbleHost’s recommendation of 8 GB or more for basic modpacks. Treat that as a starting point, not a benchmark that applies to every pack.
A reliable sizing process
- Read the pack’s documentation or launcher page for its server-side memory recommendation and supported Minecraft version.
- Confirm whether the pack uses Forge, Fabric or Quilt, then verify that the host’s installer and server image support that loader.
- Add headroom for the actual player group, pregenerated or constantly explored terrain, voice or map integrations and any extra server-side mods.
- Start at the smallest tier that satisfies those requirements and monitor memory use, garbage-collection pauses, tick time and crash logs.
- Upgrade RAM or CPU when the evidence points to resource pressure; do not treat adding RAM as a cure for a CPU-bound server.
A 1 GB listing may be the mathematical cheapest option, but it should not be presented as a practical modded-server recommendation when the provider’s own basic-pack guidance starts at 8 GB or more.
Rank #3
- Fight your way through an all-new action-adventure game, inspired by classic dungeon crawlers and set in the Minecraft universe!
- Play with up to four friends or brave the dungeons alone. Battle new-and-nasty mobs across action-packed, wildly varied levels, in a quest to defeat the evil Arch-Illager!
Premium hardware and included recovery features
PebbleHost’s Premium tier lists a Ryzen 9 9900X or regional equivalents, DDR5 memory, daily and incremental backups and one-click modpack installation. The provider positions Premium for larger servers and modpacks.
Those features can justify the additional cost when recovery time matters or when a heavier pack needs more CPU and memory headroom. They still are not proof of superior real-world performance: processor assignment, node load, software configuration and your pack all affect results. Ask support which CPU share and limits apply to the specific plan and location you are buying.
BisectHosting: a convenience-oriented alternative
BisectHosting’s official page emphasizes management convenience. It describes one-click modpack installation, instance management, console and file access, and seven days of backups. The page also advertises thousands of mods and modpacks, 21 locations and an average support response time under 15 minutes.

- ACCESS ACROSS DEVICES — Once redeemed and linked to your Microsoft account, your Minecoins and purchases are available on supported devices that run Minecraft, including Android, iOS, Windows, and Xbox.
- A GIFT FOR PLAYERS — Give Minecraft players Minecoins to spend on content in the in-game Marketplace.
Those quantities and response times are vendor-published claims. They can be valuable if your priority is a broad catalog and guided administration, but compare the exact pack version and the current support and backup terms before purchase. The September 2026 iTechGuides comparison listed 8 GB at $23.99 per month, making it materially more expensive than the dated 8 GB Budget listing; the convenience features may or may not justify that difference for your group.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Shockbyte: treat the price as a lead, not a confirmed quote
The same September 2026 comparison listed Shockbyte’s 8 GB tier from $15.99. That is useful for creating a price shortlist, but official plan details and live pricing were not independently confirmed for this guide. Before selecting it, verify the current loader support, modpack installer, CPU allocation, backup policy, locations, renewal amount and cancellation or migration process on the provider’s own checkout and documentation.
Step-by-step buying checklist
- Name the exact pack. Record its Minecraft version, loader, server download method and documented memory requirement.
- Choose a realistic resource tier. Use the pack’s guidance and player group as the floor. For basic modpacks, PebbleHost’s own guidance is 8 GB or more; do not substitute the $1/GB headline for sizing.
- Compare CPU details. Ask whether the plan uses a shared or dedicated allocation, which processor family is assigned and whether there are CPU limits or throttling policies.
- Confirm installation. Check that the host can install your exact pack and version, or that you can upload the server files through its file manager or SFTP-equivalent access.
- Pick the nearest region. Select a location close to most players, then test connection latency and watch for packet loss after the server is online.
- Price the whole term. Record the initial charge, renewal charge, billing interval, taxes, currency conversion and any paid add-ons. A third-party “from” price is not a checkout total.
- Test recovery before inviting everyone. Create a backup, make a harmless change, restore it and confirm that worlds, configuration files and player data return intact.
- Plan the upgrade path. Identify how to increase RAM or move to a stronger CPU tier without losing the world, and keep an independent copy of the save.
Compatibility and performance pitfalls
Choosing RAM without checking CPU load
More memory cannot fix a server that is spending too long on entity processing, world generation or complex mod automation. If logs and monitoring show CPU pressure while memory remains available, compare processor allocation or move to a plan with a stronger listed CPU.
Assuming “supports modpacks” means every pack works
Provider support for Forge, Fabric, Quilt or a catalog of packs establishes compatibility at the platform level. It does not guarantee that a particular pack version, Java runtime, optimization mod or client configuration will launch correctly. Match the server files and Java requirements exactly, and retain the crash log when contacting support.
Ignoring distance to players
A provider’s number of locations does not establish measured ping for your group. Select the nearest plausible region and test from the networks your players actually use. If most players are on another continent, a slightly higher plan in a closer region can feel better than a cheaper distant node.
Relying on one backup copy
Included backups differ by plan. BisectHosting describes seven days of backups, while PebbleHost Premium advertises daily and incremental backups. Confirm retention, restore scope and storage location, and periodically download an independent copy of the world.
Is PebbleHost good for modded Minecraft?
Based on the published information, PebbleHost is a credible low-cost candidate rather than a universal winner. Budget has the clearest price-to-feature fit for readers who need Forge, Fabric or Quilt support and can run their pack within the available CPU and memory limits. Premium adds a higher listed processor tier, DDR5 memory, one-click installation and daily/incremental backups for groups that need more headroom or easier recovery.
The evidence does not establish independent benchmark results, measured latency, identical performance across locations or a guarantee for every modpack. Make the final decision from your pack’s requirements, your players’ geography and the current checkout details.
Bottom-line decision
Start by checking PebbleHost Budget at the memory tier your pack actually needs; its advertised $1/GB entry point and stated Forge, Fabric, Quilt and modpack support make it the clearest inexpensive option in the available comparisons. Use 8 GB or more as the provider’s basic-modpack starting guidance, not as a universal rule. Choose Premium when its listed hardware and backup features solve a real requirement, consider BisectHosting when one-click management and support convenience are worth its higher dated 8 GB price, and treat Shockbyte’s comparison listing as a quote to verify rather than a confirmed deal.
