AleForge: the lowest advertised usable starting point
AleForge’s strength is its price: among the paid listings here, its entry listing is the lowest one that appeared actionable rather than suspended or merely announced. Its plan table scales memory in four steps, which gives a small group a way to move up without changing providers. The page also advertises backups, mod support and no stated slot limit.
Those are useful inclusions, but they remain claims made on the provider’s page. Before placing an order, open the configuration and check whether the displayed monthly amount is promotional, whether it assumes a longer billing cycle, what happens at renewal, and whether backups consume your storage allocation. Ask how restores work and whether you can download a backup rather than relying on a provider-only copy.
Start with the smallest plan only when your expected map, mod set and player count are modest. If the panel shows sustained memory pressure, CPU saturation or unstable ticks, increasing RAM alone may not solve a CPU-bound workload; move to a tier with a stronger CPU allocation or a different host.

Why the lower XProvider listing should not win the ranking
XProvider displays a lower euro-denominated entry price and publishes unusually specific Node and Reactor resource descriptions. However, the product page marks the offers as coming soon and says orders are suspended. Busy factory or modded map
Factories with many blocks, units and automation, along with content-heavy mods, can need more CPU and memory than a basic entry tier. Look for a stated CPU allocation, not just RAM, and test the actual workload. Keep a copy of the server configuration and mod versions so you can reproduce a stable state after an update.
Public or long-running community
Prioritize predictable backups, restore access, geographic proximity, abuse handling, support response and a clear policy on resource contention. A dedicated IPv4 address can simplify some administration, but it is not evidence of better game performance. Confirm whether the host limits processes, network traffic, restarts or mod uploads.

Requirements
- A dedicated Linux or Windows machine is the documented route.
- Java installed in a version compatible with the server release.
- The Mindustry server release downloaded to that machine.
- An always-on connection if players need access at any time.
- Administrative access to the computer and, for internet play, the home router.
Basic launch procedure
- Install the required Java version on the server computer.
- Place the server JAR in a working directory and open a terminal or command prompt there.
- Launch it with
java -jar [server].jar, replacing the bracketed name with the actual file name. - At the server console, start a map with
host <mapname> [mode]. Use the map and mode names accepted by your installed release. - For Windows firewall access, allow Mindustry’s documented port, 6567, for both TCP and UDP.
- For friends outside your home network, forward port 6567 on both protocols from the router to the server computer, then give players the correct public address and port.
Port forwarding exposes a service through your home connection. Keep the operating system and Java updated, use strong administrative credentials, restrict management access, and do not expose unrelated services. The Wiki specifically notes the security implications of exposing a home public IP and suggests a web host or cloud service when that trade-off is unacceptable.
LAN hosting is not a persistent server
In-game LAN or Steam hosting is convenient for a few players on the same local network, but it is tied to the host’s game session and stops when that game closes. A dedicated server is a separate program that can continue running while nobody has the game open, which is why it is the better fit for scheduled or persistent communities.
Raspberry Pi option
The official FAQ says a dedicated server will run on a Raspberry Pi as long as the correct Java version is installed. That establishes technical possibility, not a universal performance recommendation. Player count, map complexity, mods, storage, cooling and network quality still determine whether a particular Pi is suitable.
Check compatibility before you migrate
All players need compatible Mindustry versions; the official FAQ highlights version matching as a condition for cross-platform play. Record the server version, map, rules and mod versions before moving hosts. Uploading a world without matching mods or versions can produce connection failures or a different game state.

- Write down the expected concurrent players, map type, mods and required uptime.
