- Edition: ARK: Survival Evolved and ARK: Survival Ascended are separate games. Their server files, players, mods and saves are not interchangeable.

On this evidence, GTX Gaming is the defensible low-price reference for a small UK monthly server. That statement is narrower than saying it is the cheapest ASE host in every country, for every platform or under every contract length.

Check the edition before comparing hosts
ASE is not ASA
Look for “ARK: Survival Evolved” or “ASE” in the product selector. Survival Ascended uses different server files and is a separate game. An ASE server will not host ASA players, and an ASA save cannot simply be moved into an ASE installation. A plan that is cheaper but lists the wrong edition is unusable for your group.
Match the store and device
Write down where each player owns ASE: Steam, Epic, Windows 10/Xbox Game Pass, Xbox, PlayStation, Mobile or Switch. Then verify that the host supports that platform and the combination you intend to use. Do not assume that a provider’s generic “crossplay” label covers every console and PC pairing.
Crossplay rules that affect the cheapest choice
Crossplay is platform-specific, not a single yes-or-no feature. Nitrado states that its ASE service supports Steam/Epic crossplay and Windows 10/Xbox Game Pass crossplay, while PlayStation and Nintendo Switch do not support crossplay on that service. GTX describes Steam/Epic crossplay on unmodded servers. Those statements do not establish crossplay for every other combination.

- Windows 10 and Xbox Game Pass: Nitrado lists this pairing as supported on its ASE service. Confirm the exact Xbox or Windows edition presented at checkout.
- PlayStation groups: A PlayStation-specific plan may be appropriate, but do not expect it to crossplay with PC on the cited Nitrado service.
- Nintendo Switch: Nitrado lists Switch as a selectable platform, while also stating that Switch does not support crossplay on its service. A Switch-only group is a different requirement from a mixed-platform group.
Before ordering, ask the host to confirm the exact pair or group of platforms in writing if the product page is ambiguous. Save that answer with your order details.
Mods can make a cheap plan unusable
Steam Workshop limits
GTX says Steam Workshop mods are for Steam players and that Epic players cannot load them. If even one member of a mixed Steam/Epic group needs a Workshop mod, the group must choose between an unmodded setup and a different platform arrangement. Do not buy a mod-heavy configuration until every player’s client can install the same content.
Version drift after game updates
Nitrado warns that community mods can take time to become compatible after game updates. A modded server can therefore remain unavailable or unstable even when the hosting subscription is active. Keep a list of installed mods, their load order and the date of the last successful update so you can identify the item that broke after a patch.

- Are mods installed through Steam Workshop, a provider panel or another method?
- Can Epic, console or Switch players use the same mods?
- Who updates the mods when ASE changes?
- Can you disable one mod without deleting the world?

Included resources and continuity
RAM and storage
The GTX listing states up to 10 GB of RAM and up to 100 GB of NVMe storage for its ASE plans. “Up to” describes the plan’s stated ceiling, not a measured performance result or a promise that every configuration uses the maximum allocation. Confirm what your selected slot count and location actually include.

Backups and recovery
GTX lists daily automatic backups. Ask how many restore points are retained, whether backups are stored separately from the server and whether restoring one replaces the current world. A daily schedule may not protect progress made since the last backup, so record major configuration changes and take a manual copy if the control panel provides one.
DDoS protection and support
GTX lists DDoS protection and 24/7 support. These are useful inclusions, but neither listing establishes a guaranteed response time or uptime percentage. Before relying on support for a scheduled event, check the provider’s stated response process and what information it requires, such as server ID, timestamps and recent error logs.

Server location
Choose a location close to most players to reduce network distance. A cheaper country can become false economy if the group experiences high latency or must pay for a later move. Confirm whether the location can be changed and whether moving it affects the world, IP address, backups or billing.
How to buy the right low-cost plan
- Inventory the group: Record the ASE edition, each player’s platform, expected peak players, required mods and preferred region.
- Set the slot target: Use the largest number of people who may play at the same time, not merely the number online today. A 10-slot plan is appropriate only when that ceiling is sufficient.
- Filter for compatibility: Remove plans that do not list your platform, crossplay combination or mod method. Treat a missing compatibility statement as a question, not an assumption.
