The cheapest good alt:V hosting may currently be no hosting at all. A June 23, 2026 comment on the project’s GitHub issue tracker says alt:V was discontinued on February 9, 2026, but that comment points to Discord rather than a first-party announcement. Downloads, support and host compatibility therefore remain unconfirmed. Check the official announcements and download channels, and launch a test server, before paying any provider.
If alt:V is still obtainable for your use case, compare a managed alt:V plan with a self-managed Linux VPS. No independent uptime, latency, support or performance tests establish a cheapest winner. The right purchase depends on verified availability, player geography, guaranteed resources, renewal cost, protection, backups and how much administration you can handle.
First, establish that alt:V is still obtainable
Availability is the gating question. The only current-status evidence identified here is a June 23, 2026 GitHub issue comment from a community member stating, “alt:V has been discontinued since February 9th 2026,” with a direction to the Discord announcements channel. That is not the same as a notice from the alt:V team. It does not prove that every download has stopped, that existing servers are offline, or that a hosting company can no longer provide a working environment.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- A server package is still available to new users.
- The package accepts your intended GTA V build and operating system.
- Authentication, master-server or other required services still operate.
- Your chosen host permits the software under its terms.
- You can start a private test instance and connect from a real client.
If any of those checks fail, a low monthly price is irrelevant. You would be paying for an environment that cannot deliver a playable server.
What “cheap but still good” should mean
There is no verified industry price, capacity figure or quality ranking for alt:V hosting. Provider pages are advertisements, not independent benchmarks. Treat “cheap” as the lowest fully loaded recurring cost that meets your player and administration requirements, rather than the lowest headline number.
A usable comparison includes:
- Guaranteed compute: Dedicated CPU, a stated share of a core, or an unspecified shared processor can produce very different results under load.
- Memory: RAM must cover the server process, operating system, framework, scripts, database and any monitoring tools.
- Location: A data centre close to most players generally matters more than a small RAM difference.
- Network protection: Ask what traffic is covered, whether mitigation is always on, and whether game ports are included.
- Backups: Confirm frequency, retention, storage location and whether you can restore a single file or only the entire machine.
- Operations: Managed panels reduce administration; a VPS leaves patching, firewalling, updates and recovery to you.
- Commercial terms: Compare renewal price, billing term, taxes, setup fees, add-ons and cancellation rules.
Managed host or Linux VPS?
| Route | What is established | Likely fit | What you must verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Managed alt:V hosting | Solace and Enzonic publish alt:V-specific listings. Their pages provide vendor claims, not independent measurements. | Owners who want a game-specific order flow and less operating-system work. | Current service availability, exact CPU allocation, renewal price, region, restore process, support response and DDoS scope. |
| Self-managed Linux VPS | The historical alt:V FAQ describes native Linux server builds. A 2022 OVHcloud game-server paper presents VPS as potentially cheaper than dedicated hardware in some situations. | Technically comfortable owners who want root access and can secure and maintain a server. | Current downloads, compatibility, noisy-neighbour effects, network quality, attack protection, backups, administration time and total cost. |
Neither route is automatically cheaper. A managed plan can cost more per month but save hours of administration. A VPS can have a lower sticker price while adding paid backups, monitoring, mitigation or your own unpaid maintenance time.
Published managed-host examples
Solace’s advertised configuration
Solace displays a 6 GB RAM alt:V configuration at $12 per month. The same listing advertises NVMe storage, ten backups, DDoS protection, unmetered bandwidth and Toronto and Virginia locations. These are statements on the provider’s listing; they are not independently verified measurements. The page does not establish whether $12 is a recurring renewal price, an introductory offer, or the final amount after tax.

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Ask for the exact CPU model or guaranteed share, port speed and mitigation limits before treating this as a capacity decision. Choose Toronto or Virginia only after considering where your players are located and whether either location is still offered.
Enzonic’s advertised resource range
Enzonic Cloud advertises 4–16 GB of dedicated RAM and “200%–800% Dedicated” compute, along with storage, always-on operation and Cloudflare Spectrum protection. The page was accessed in 2026, but the published material does not establish a matched monthly price, a renewal schedule or an independent performance result. “Dedicated” should be clarified in writing: ask whether the percentage represents virtual CPU allocation, how many physical or virtual cores it maps to, and whether limits change between plans.
Confirm what Spectrum protection covers for your specific game ports, whether it carries a separate fee, and how an attack is handled. Obtain the configuration and all recurring charges at checkout rather than comparing the marketing range with another host’s single plan.

The historical official FAQ states: “There are native builds of the alt:V server for Linux, however the client itself has no official Linux support.” It also warns that running the client through Wine or Proton is not guaranteed to be as stable as a native Windows installation. This distinction matters: a Linux VPS can host the server while players still need a supported client environment. The FAQ is historical guidance and does not confirm that current Linux server files can still be downloaded.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
The same FAQ says: “More server slots are currently, and will always be free. The only limit is the hardware which the server is running on.” That explains the licensing model, not a recommended specification. It gives no safe player count, CPU model or RAM minimum. Start with a small private test and measure real resource use before inviting players.
A VPS is appropriate when you can perform these jobs yourself:
- Install an operating system and the server package.
- Configure a firewall, non-default administrative access and automatic security updates.
- Manage service restarts, logs, permissions and disk space.
- Schedule off-machine backups and periodically test restoration.
- Investigate CPU saturation, memory pressure, packet loss and script faults.
- Respond to abuse notices, attacks and hardware or network incidents.
The 2022 OVHcloud paper frames VPS as an affordable alternative when a dedicated server exceeds a user’s budget, skills or needs. It does not identify a current alt:V-compatible plan or prove that any particular VPS is cheaper for you.
Normalize the price before calling anything cheapest
Put every offer into the same monthly basis. Do not compare an introductory price with another company’s normal renewal rate, or a short billing term with a month-to-month plan.

| Cost item | Question to answer |
|---|---|
| Base rental | What is the recurring price after the first invoice, and which billing term produces it? |
| Resources | Are RAM and CPU dedicated, capped, burstable or shared? |
| Location | Is the advertised city available for this plan, and what latency do your players observe? |
| Backups | Are the advertised backups included, how long are they retained, and do restores cost extra? |
| Protection | Is DDoS mitigation included, always on, game-port aware and subject to traffic limits? |
| Software and panel | Does a control panel cost extra, and can you access logs and restart the process? |
| Taxes and fees | Are tax, setup, IP, storage, bandwidth or cancellation charges added at checkout? |
Record the answers and the renewal invoice, not just a promotional banner. If a provider will not state the CPU allocation, restoration procedure or renewal price, you cannot make a reliable cheapest-versus-good comparison.
A safe verification and setup sequence
- Verify the project: Check current official announcements and downloads. Save the version identifier and any required account or authentication details.
- Define the test: Choose an expected player range, script set, database needs and primary player region. A private test is more useful than guessing from RAM alone.
- Request a written quote: Ask each host for recurring price, renewal terms, CPU allocation, location, backup retention, mitigation limits and support channel.
- Confirm policy: Read acceptable-use rules and verify that the host permits your server software and any connected services.
- Deploy minimally: Install only the operating system, server files and dependencies required for a test. Keep administrative access restricted and enable firewall rules before opening the game port.
- Measure under load: Invite a small group, watch CPU, memory, disk I/O and network statistics, and inspect server logs while scripts run. Note latency from the regions where players actually live.
- Test recovery: Create a backup, change a harmless configuration value, restore it and time the process. A backup that cannot be restored is not a usable protection.
- Decide or cancel: Keep the service only if the test meets your latency, stability and administration requirements at the confirmed recurring price.
Common failure modes and what to do
The download or authentication service is gone
Do not substitute an unofficial archive or pay a host that promises access without evidence. Ask the provider for the currently supported package and version, then verify it through the project’s own channels. If the official service is discontinued, stop the purchase decision; hosting cannot restore a retired platform.
Players expect to run the client on Linux
Server-side Linux support does not mean an officially supported Linux client. Explain the distinction to your community and test the supported client path before renting a machine.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The server becomes unstable as players join
Check CPU contention, single-thread saturation, memory pressure, script errors and database latency. “Dedicated RAM” does not guarantee dedicated CPU. Ask the provider to identify the limiting resource or move to a plan with a stated CPU guarantee and a nearby region.
An attack makes the server unreachable
Find out whether mitigation covers the game protocol and port, whether protection is always enabled, and what happens when traffic exceeds a threshold. Keep configuration and player-data backups off the server so an incident does not destroy both the service and its recovery copy.

You need help but bought an unmanaged VPS
A VPS vendor may maintain the hypervisor and network while leaving your operating system and application entirely to you. If you cannot patch, troubleshoot and restore the machine, the apparent saving may be false economy. Choose managed administration or budget for competent help before launch.
Which route fits your situation?
| Your situation | Practical starting point |
|---|---|
| You are still confirming that alt:V works and have no players yet. | Use a short, cancellable test arrangement only after verifying official availability. Avoid annual prepayment. |
| You want a panel and do not want to administer Linux. | Investigate a managed listing, but obtain written CPU, renewal, backup and protection terms. |
| You administer Linux comfortably and need root control. | Compare a self-managed VPS with the same region, backup and mitigation requirements as managed plans. |
| Your community spans several continents. | Measure latency from actual player regions; extra RAM cannot compensate for a consistently distant route. |
| You expect heavy scripts or a large player population. | Run a load test and demand a clear CPU allocation. The historical FAQ provides no sizing recommendation. |
Use of the alt:V name
The project’s terms describe alt:V as a modification for playing GTA V on custom dedicated servers. They prohibit misleading users into believing an independently operated server is officially associated with alt:V or altMP. Describe your community and host accurately, and do not call a provider “official” unless you have verifiable authorization.

There is no evidence-based cheapest provider to recommend today. First confirm that alt:V remains downloadable and supportable after the reported February 9, 2026 discontinuation. If it does, collect matched quotes from a managed host and a Linux VPS, normalize renewal cost and included services, and run a private performance and restore test. The lowest acceptable offer is the one that meets your players’ latency and resource needs, protects and restores your data, and fits your ability to operate it—not necessarily the one with the smallest advertised monthly number.
