Shokz OpenRun is the best-value alternative to OpenRun Pro 2 for most runners and commuters. Its current listed price is $129.95, or $50 less than the $179.95 OpenRun Pro 2, while retaining an open-ear bone-conduction design and up to eight hours of battery life. If your budget is tighter, Shokz OpenMove costs $79.95 and offers the same basic open-ear concept, six hours of claimed battery life and IP55 splash resistance.

OpenRun Pro 2 remains the premium option: it uses Shokz’s 10th-generation DualPitch technology and claims up to 12 hours per charge. TechRadar gave it a 4.5-star editorial rating in 2026, but that is a review score, not a current marketplace customer rating. Prices and availability can change, so verify the live listing before buying.

Which cheaper Shokz model should you buy?

Choose OpenRun for the strongest value

OpenRun occupies the middle ground. At Shokz’s listed $129.95, it costs substantially less than OpenRun Pro 2 while offering up to eight hours of battery life. That makes it the sensible choice when you want a purpose-built running or commuting headset but do not need the newest audio system.

Shokz lists OpenRun with eighth-generation bone conduction. Its IP67 rating provides substantially more protection from dust and water exposure than OpenMove’s rating, although Shokz says OpenRun is not suitable for swimming. The open-ear design leaves your ear canals uncovered, so you can remain aware of surrounding sounds; it does not guarantee that you will hear every vehicle, cyclist or warning signal.

Choose OpenMove when price matters most

OpenMove is the strict-budget pick at a listed $79.95. It uses seventh-generation bone conduction and claims up to six hours of battery life. Its IP55 rating is intended for splash protection, making it appropriate for ordinary workouts and light rain but a weaker choice for heavy exposure to water.

OpenMove is “good enough” for running if your priority is an inexpensive way to try open-ear audio and your sessions fit within its battery limit. You give up two hours of claimed battery life versus OpenRun and move to an older bone-conduction generation, so expectations for audio refinement should be lower.

What you gain by paying for OpenRun Pro 2

OpenRun Pro 2 is the model to choose when the newer 10th-generation DualPitch system matters more than purchase price. Shokz claims up to 12 hours of battery life, four hours beyond OpenRun and six beyond OpenMove. That extra capacity can reduce charging frequency for long training weeks or frequent commuting.

How to decide in five checks

  1. Set your ceiling. If $80 is the limit, OpenMove is the relevant choice. Around $130 opens the better-balanced OpenRun option.
  2. Match battery to your routine. Compare your longest typical use with the stated six-, eight- or 12-hour maximums. Real-world runtime can vary with volume and use.
  3. Match water exposure. Pick OpenRun for its listed IP67 protection, but do not use it for swimming. Pick OpenMove when splash resistance is sufficient.
  4. Decide whether newer audio matters. OpenRun Pro 2 is the only model here with 10th-generation DualPitch technology; OpenRun and OpenMove use eighth- and seventh-generation systems.
  5. Check the fit before ordering. Comfort and stability depend on head shape and wearing position. Confirm the current standard or available size options for your market, because the supplied specifications do not establish a universal sizing package.

Do bone-conduction headphones let you hear traffic?

These headsets transmit sound without sealing the ear canals, so ambient noise remains available alongside the audio. That is useful on roads, paths and public transport compared with closed earbuds. However, traffic awareness depends on volume, wind, route layout, hearing ability and local conditions. Keep volume moderate, obey local safety rules and never treat an open-ear headset as a substitute for looking and listening carefully.

Bottom line for budget buyers

Buy Shokz OpenRun if you want the best balance of price, battery life and water protection. Buy Shokz OpenMove if minimizing the upfront cost is more important than battery headroom or the newer bone-conduction generation. Pay for OpenRun Pro 2 only when its 10th-generation DualPitch system, 12-hour claim and premium positioning justify the extra $50 or $100 over the cheaper models.
